It had legs which might be removable. But I'd pull the rug out to reveal more of it if I were to take the legs off. But the bed will be the most expensive component of the makeover, so perhaps that wasn't in the makeover for budget reasons. It could be changed in the future though.

Cup nobs would have been more appropriate for the navy dresser. Imagine walking through that tiny space and catching your ankle on one of those handles -ouch!

That was what I was thinking as well... the space is already narrow as it is, putting handles like that is an accident waiting to happen. A flatter profile handle ... like the leather handles from IKEA might be a good option.

More Japandi style and minimal styles, please. Love how you warmed this up but included the nod to traditional Japanese style. Drawer pulls are spectacular. Pooled curtains...first time I've liked them because they fit in so well.

I would love it of you could talk about having to design a space for two people and one person has a certain style while the other likes something else. I feel like a lot of couples have one person who gets what they want in a design and the other just doesn't speak up or hasn't given it a thought until the room is finished and they feel like they cant see themselves in the space, they only see the more out spoken partner. I feel like a lot of design has become 'my way or the high way' between significant others where the room was only designed for one person in mind. So I would love to see a more collaborative design process spoken about, both between partners and the designer, instead of a compromise where only one person gets what they want. (Not saying this happened here, the room is beautiful!)

@@sarahholland2600 so true!! And if one partner is so "aggressive" to silence the other partner that is a problem too! Not everyone is straightforward and assertive so those people need a gentle listening partner

I love the low dresser however the space to walk between the bed and dresser with the lovely pulls would leave my shins and knees black and blue. The wall sconces were spot on. I was expecting a nice chair underneath the clock. If your clients are happy and like it that’s all that matters.

Why not put a smaller dresser on either side of the bed to serve double duty as bedside tables? And I agree...the pulls sticking out just makes matters worse.

As a Scandinavian obsessed with Japanese interior design I think this turned out beautifully! For some ideas for future decore items to add to the room I'd advice the couple to shop for items in different shades of grey and grey and grey-blues with texture. It's very true that Scandinavians usually will only consider navy for a pop of colour lol. Bamboo and lighter woods are also very Japanese and Scandi, but don't be scared of a textured very dark wood for accent pieces, like a naturally shaped bowl or stool with raw edges. Also to add patterns (in moderation mind) look for inspo from traditional japanese ceramics and the more monochromatic prints from Finnish brand Marimekko (the Oiva-series is crazy popular in Japan). To add warmth stick to textured terracotta and small touches of a dark but true red (think dried rose hips or red tulips) and mustard yellow. Tambouring is also another way to add warmth with texture rather than colours. Also if you have a larch tree anywhere nearby grab some of those branches sans needles, the branches have the perfect shapes for japandi. Have fun! 😊

The end result is really nice. But idk the dresser is still a no go for me. There are dressers out there that are a bit more narrow so that you could walk properly. Or maybe something that goes up the wall.

Right. A chest of drawers where the clock is like they had before would have been pert and maybe a narrow bench at the foot of the bed or the clock could have been on the bug empty wall. I just kept imagining hitting my ankles on that dresser

That dresser is just not in the right space, or not the right dresser. 😕 Definitely gonna hurt your shins/toes getting out of the bed in the middle of the night or in a haste. Doesn’t seem practical. I love your channel, just not this choice. But who cares - I’m an internet stranger. 🤷🏾‍♀️

I'd like to see some whimsical rooms, that don't look like a child's room.

Oh dear. The overall feeling is nice, but I can’t believe how that navy dresser is a miss: so low you can’t see it, blocks the walkway, the handles are really cool but they could stab you in the legs because they project out so far. I would have done something art wise that took the whole wall at the foot of the bed, and bought a tall dresser for the side next to the bed.

I think you should help DIY Danie with one of her rooms. After all of the replies to my first comment I feel I need to qualify it. I love to watch both of their videos and believe them both incredibly talented and a lot of fun. As Alexandra specifically stated she wanted to maybe do farmhouse style, and since Danie consistently is stating she is doing a type of farmhouse style and her new home, I just thought it would be fun to see the two of them together again.

The throw pillow should have been blush. IMHO I’d like to see pillows on bed smoothed out so it looks finished and un slept. The linen lends the casual look. The plant in the window area was sl nice and the wall clock decals great! Well done.

I like the british style, you know, exotics wall papers, a lot of books, big couches and classic art in the walls, kind of eclectic and exiotic as the british mansions in India... Idk if anyone will get me, but that is the style I´m currently trying on my house and is a lil difficult to achieve, but deffinitly worth it.

That is my style as well --ancient library with a gentle nod to Hogwarts. I love the term "gathered over many generations," Tory. Whereas so many see white and minimal calming, my calm is found in deep and warm. Could it be an introvert vs. extrovert thing?

I don't think there is a specific Caribbean style cause basically we are an incorporated style. Just as Japandi is a mix of two cultures, we in the Caribbean are the same. We have MULTIPLE cultures at play so our "style" can and will vary house to house

I would have put the dresser on the window wall since it doesn’t fit on the wall that it was placed and you wouldn’t cover all that light. I don’t know how large the walk-in closet is but I would really like to see the new dresser in the closet, where the couple could sit down on the top of the dresser to put on/take off shoes. I would add the bamboo plant in the corner of the wall that the dresser now sits. Makes better sense to me. Hahaa. Yeah, I know, it’s not MY room!

I live in Tokyo, Japan and yes Japandi style is all the rage now in here, with the stores such as Muji, Actus, Nittori ( mix with Ikea of course ) leading the way. However it is now already reach an oversaturation point, slowly losing its momentum and ( thank goodness !!) the more decorative, fun style is already gaining momentum now with stores such as FrancFranc, Zara Home , EstNation, Isetan etc providing the perfect decorative items for the more fun, more playful, colorful style.

You read my mind. I love the rugged, rustic, mountain and Native American look. Indian feathers, head dresses, antlers (moose)!Pendleton blankets,, wildlife photography and or paintings on the walls, saddles and horse shoes, western ropes and last but not least, leather and suede. I found a small rug that can double as a throw and it looks like a Buffalo hide draped over the back of the sofa. I also have my walls full of beautifully framed wildlife (Buffalo/tatanka), wolves etc. We have a leather sofa, loveseat and chair/ottoman in the living room. A cow hide is draped and fitted on the sofa. I found a throw that was patterned as cow hide, covered two large pillows. Now it looks like one piece.- I found a long slightly curved branch. Then wrapped part of it in leather and added feathers. It turned out great, looks Native American. I have a small over shoulder deer hide purse that has the long pieces of leather with beads inserted randomly that serves as wall decor when not being used as s purse. Sorry I’m getting carried away but this style has always excited me. Oh and I forgot lots of wood and a fire place!

I always love your videos, and I know each one has its own challenges. Your bubbly spirit is contagious and I enjoy every episode. You ask what we’d like to see in the future, so this is what would be cool for me. I am NOT a minimalist and prefer color instead of white, pink and gold. So I would love to see you makeover a room for people who have lots of stuff, will have it all over if you don’t give it storage and display space, and for people who have different color preferences.

I’m glad she loved it much! They definitely needed some floating shelves about that dresser though, something to bring the eyes up to make the room feel bigger. Floating shelves are like the epitome of minimalist. Thank you for the inspiration for a small bedroom! My master is small so this gives me hope for something beautiful!

I really like some of your videos and I appreciate you designing out of your preferred style (lol painting over the pink walls and getting rid of the boho carpet, I was indeed shookth) but I've noticed you, quite often design based on looks rather than functionality. They may be okay with a tight dresser but someone will for sure bang their shins on those protruding knobs. Having a flatter pullout would make a lot more sense and less likely to have bloody knees. And I understand having a sheer look to the curtains but keeping in mind the direction of where the light is coming in during the morning, it may make more sense to keep the black out curtains up, even if it doesn't fit your image board. Just some small critiques but I am glad to see you embracing new looks and I think you nailed the Japandi style with this bedroom. It looks so cozy and comfortable 😍

If this was mine, I would use chest of drawer pieces on each side of the bed, doubling as night stands. The chest at the foot of the bed is just too restrictive if any other option exists. I am going with grey linens for all the beds in my six bedroom house. I grew up in New Brunswick, Canada and remember how tiny some of the bedrooms were especially in newer construction of early 1960's. My over century old home In Tennessee now has all bedrooms being 15 x 15 or larger, so many more options exist. I am 73 now, so comfort is key. Two of the rooms have two drawer bedside tables with a substantial lamp on each. Three have shelving units on each side, doubling as bedside tables. The other one is used as an office currently. Enjoying some mini string lights lately, though this comment is almost 3 years after this makeover. Am watching Your channel backwards! LOL. LOVE YOUR HAPPY ENTHUSIASM!💟

The bedside tables seem very flimsy and inconveniently low; the ones on your mood board had more presence. The dresser also seems to low and too deep. I hope there's another door to that balcony. Otherwise they're going to have a hard time getting the bicycles.

I feel like every video as I watch the process, I’m like “hmmm I don’t know about that….” and at the end when I see everything come together I’m like “I NEVER DOUBTED YOU FOR A MOMENT!!!! ❤”

She was so excited! If the knobs are not working, its nothing to swap them out for something with a lower profile but I feel they wont be in the way. It really needed that tall plant. I have not heard of Japandi before but it really does make sense. The two ideas mesh very well together, simple but with texture, attention to small details and comfort. One thing I would have done was add some of those under the bed storage containers. If you only have a few they wont show in the room and add some extra storage for seasonal clothing ect. I really love how the color on the wall goes with the art piece. Great choice! Also, one thing you could do if you are trying to get a feel for how big something will be in a space and make a taped mock up on the floor/walls of the height, length and depth.

I wonder how many bruises they will have walking past that dresser with the huge nobs...

As a space planner there was plenty of room on each side of the bed for a 3/4drawer chest doubling as a nite stand. No need for the toe stubbed at the end of the bed

nope, never heard of Japandi, but IM LOVIN IT! Fav from this episode was hands down that wall clock...I've never seen anything quite like it, so chic and minimal 😍

Thanks to you at the age of 73 I was converted to the Native brand. I use the deodorant and the bar soap. So reasonable in price and it WORKS.!

That Art over the bed reminds me of the artwork my mom had in the house in the '80s from the frame to the colors and style. It's very 1980s mom.

Your room is very pretty. I am concerned about functionality. The night stands are too short and have no storage for a minimalist room. The young couple will be hitting their toes on the cabinet on the floor as well as their shins on the knobs that stick out.

True. I was thinking, why have the dresser there at all? Put it over by the window and put the tall mirror in that small corner where the dresser was. That way the big bare wall doesn't feel so empty and you can still access the dresser while having good walking room around the bed

I always love the IDEA of Japandi -- I love traditional Japanese spaces with all the moodiness, texture and natural elements. I also love the bright airiness of Scandinavian design, but together they always leave me wanting color, or some kind of richness that's lacking. Like matchaccino without the -ccino on a really cold day. I need that -ccino! And yet still, against my personal taste, you and your team always manage to pull it off beautifully. I would totally spend time in that room. But I may want a caramel leather chair to sit in. Or green. Always green with me.

I loved her reaction. I just sold my condo and moving into my new home and I’m so excited and nervous about how to decorate it. I did fine decorating my small 792 sq ft condo but worried about having to put together and decorate a 1,639 sq ft home. 🤷🏻‍♀️

With winter starting in the Northern hemisphere and many of us having to spend more time indoors, I’d like to see you do a Hygge style design. Full of warmth, coziness and well-being vibes. Well done on this cool, calming, paired back Japandi design. You showed a lot of restraint holding off the urge to add the occasional Pom Pom.

Never heard of this style before but I'm thrilled to finally have a name for my aesthetic!!! 😍

I've been begging för this style on different channels and I'm elated to finally see it here

I saw “Japandi style” and immediately clicked. I love this style so much, and it’s what I aspire to transition my own space towards.

I really like how the room turned out! So calm! I only would have loved it more if you used the "nordiska open wardrobe" from IKEA. I think that wardrobe is very japendi and would be perfect in this room! But well done!

That dresser with those knobs would hook my clothes every time I walked past

I would love to see something glam maximalist! Lots of patterns, art and color.

I really love the way this room is so calming and romantic and cosy at the same time. Every detail was taken care of nicely. Amazed again AG👍

That dresser literally looks like it should be a entry way bench with pillows on it....

I’ve never heard of Japandi style but it makes total sense given that both styles have similar notes! I’m obsessed!

I had never heard of this style before so I was super excited for this one. Made me laugh when you said 'I painted over pink walls and got rid of a boho rug, who am I?' 😆 I loooooove the linen bedding. One day I'll splurge and buy some. My cats have ruined some of our bedding so I don't really want to invest a lot in it, as tempting as it is. This turned out great! It was minimalistic while still including *some* knick knacks, and the pops of color with the plants and the bureau. Diana's (😁) reaction was priceless, love it.

Never heard of this style but I'm in love! And you did such a wonderful job with it too: it feels bright, calm, and cozy all at once. I love the clock!

The dresser knobs really do make a difference!!!!! I wasn't feeling the dresser at all when it was first installed but you made it work - love the styling touches

Nice! Alexandra, do you think you could actually show a step-by-step of replacing a ceiling light? It's a bit intimidating, but with how-to vid, that would likely go away. Thanks!!!

Love it but wished the bed was lower and maybe wooden. Not sure about the dresser being lower than the bed.... but it did work! Also thanks for the Native code... just used it to make my 1st purchase 😘

Currently binge watching your videos, sometimes I think "ohh no, please don't do that" and it always turns out great. Only this time ... the dresser? To deep for me. It gets in the way of a calm flow of how to walk around your bed, and since they didn't need it, maybe a less deeper one? And then again, it is way much easier to comment after than to design it ourselfs isn't it! So many people so many preferences 😅 Thank you for all your inspiration ❤

I noticed the sheers were pulled closed for the reveal. I think that is a good call. It lightly screens off the bikes on the balcony and adds a little more sense of airy privacy. The room is lovely.

A lot of Korean and Japanese silent vlogs show case a lot of this style! :)

A lovely room, but like others have said, those knobs on the dresser would be a problem for me. But, on a positive note, I ordered a set of the Native deodorants. ;-)
