I've got the AverMedia Live Gamer Portable 2 that records what I play and saves it to a file on a micro-SD card, when I hit the record button. It just takes the HDMI from the Wii U (or Switch, or whatever system), and outputs to the TV with another HDMI. Very simple, no PC used at all, and I can record in a quick fire fashion, stopping and starting often and making as many video files as my micro-SD card can hold (a lot). I've used cheaper portable game capture devices in the past, and they're well worth the money, but, the LGP2 is easily the best one I've ever used.
I wonder if the second half of minigame 5 was based on Yar’s Revenge.

The thing is, I already do edit some of my videos. When I get to the end of a course, but, there was a branching path, or I want to listen to the song backwards or something, I'll record it again, and later edit the videos together so it's just one video with multiple playthroughs. Or with the multi level songs where the focus is purely on the music, I'll record it as is, and also make an edited version that cuts out flags/axes, doors, pipes, etc. as to make the music sound whole, and uninterrupted. But, for everything else, my focus is to capture clean recordings of every level I play. I want to record what happens when I play a level, not just clips, I want this to be the authentic channel capturing exactly what happens in the game. If I die, I want it on tape, otherwise, I'm not documenting my experience. But, if it ever gets out of hand, I stop recording, and play something else, or occasionally come back. If you see a little flag at the beginning of the video before the level starts, you can tell if I've played it before. But, it doesn't happen very often unless it's a music level.
