Nice Video Colin, I have done loads of track using the silicon insert you mentioned, I quick point as regards the pins in the end these are often rusty but if you pull them out with a pair of pilers you can clean them up or simply turn them round and tap back in as the end that was in the track will still be as new having never been out before.

This video came at the right time for me...I have just this week acquired my first lot of Minic components and wondered how I could refurbish them....you make it all look so easy.....not to criticize your camera work but the part you were working on was out view from about 11:00 to 11:56 ....many thanks for the tips. Kind regards Brian

Brilliant vid,I’ve yet to try running any cars on it, but I used 2mm plastic srimmer wire it fits perfect. Do you think it might work it’s not expensive thanks stuart

It could work if it fits snuggly into the groove and lays deep enough for the vehicles to pass over. The only possible drawback I can see is if it uncurls as its been stored on a drum . Being round and rigid it has less area in contact with the brass strip and may move. Give it a go and see what happens.

What grade glass paper do you use on the metal strips ?

I would suggest either wire wool or I think I used a synthetic pad. This cleans the strips without scratching. Once in situ I use a railway track cleaner block just to run around every so often as keep the brass strips best for a good contact. Using wire wool in situ can scratch the track next to the strip if your not careful.

Great Video - have just acquired some old Triang track. What gauge wire did you use in the end? I noticed it was twin speaker wire I think? Grey wire wasn't very informative!

About 2mm diameter should do the job. It needs to fit snuggly but not to tight you have to force in and risk cutting through to the core
