I just bought one of these. Its amazing. My advice would be to not take seriously a review made by people who are driving around with the top down in the rain. The car is the definition of fun. I test drove a 370z (too heavy) golf r (too boring) mx5 (couldnt fit in it but awesome if u fit) and come from owning an xr6 turbo v6 (handles like a barge). The mini is just better in every single way. Yes the top is single layered but that actually gives me almost an inch more headroom again. I was too tall for the mx5 by a full 3 inches. This mini without a word or a lie has a good 5 inches spare headroom for me. Im 6ft 2. With the top down this is basically a street legal go kart. Thats not what everyone wants. Go karts arent great for driving kids around. Go karts arent muscle cars. Go karts arent sleek italian sports cars. Go karts arent straight line warriors. But go karts are FUN! If you just want a fun car buy this. You cannot drive this car without smiling. And to me that is the most important thing about a car.

I owned a coupé one, and I love it more than my 6 cylinders Z4... It's the same fun for both but in the mini Cooper s coupé has much better consumption rate.

I have the coupe version, and it is absolutely fab. I've been lucky enough to have some genuinely fun sports cars (caterhams, boxster) and a few hot hatches (scirocco, ST etc) and the JCW mini coupe is as fun as any of the best of them, and significantly more fun than the worst of them. Makes a Scirocco feel dull, and can wriggle its way around a racetrack quicker than a boxster S. Love it!

I bought one!!! The car is amazing!!!! When I drive it I always get thumbs-up from other drivers!!!

I love this team reviews, but I think they should make two versions of it, one being this version (when they hate on the car) and the other from the point of view of someone that likes that type of cars.

There are so many better reviews where the Roadster is driven on the Motorway and back roads, and those reviewers are smiling and having fun. I test drove one and they are fun little cars. "Life is too short to drive a boring car, drive a MINI"

Has all the hallmarks of a future classic. Buy one! Make money.

For whatever bizarre reason, it seems there is a contingent of folks in the UK who love to hate on the brand. I love the cars and find them a blast to drive. I have wondered, having recently discovered the British Top Gear show, whether the viewpoints of the hosts influence others who are reviewing the car. To each his own of course, it just seems a bit angry rather than rational.

Sold my 2.5lt 2009 Z4 for one of these - a 2012 model...............glad I did, much more fun.

I can see Jason, Vicki and Jonny's frustration with that car since BMW began to dilute the spirit that we petrolheads love about the Mini. But then again, Tiff does have a point about giving a chance. There are people out there who do actually want a sleeker looking Mini. I myself actually do like the Roadster, it does look better with the roof down.

I love team tests :)

Let me confess one thing: The Coupe look crap. This Roadster version looks so SO much better than the Coupe. Definitely would never think of buying the Coupe, but this Roadster? I'm nearing there.

Usually roadsters have a removable hardtop (in addition to the soft top), the roof of the coupé version is fixed and isn't retractable like the MX-5 one

I don't know... but in my opinion it looks fantastic, specially the coupe..., and for the looks of it, its very fun to drive... yes it won't break your neck with 0-60 of 7 seconds, but that was never the point of a mini anyways... you want a break your neck? try shelling the dough for one of those 600+ horsepower monsters out there and be the best friend of the gas station guy near you... xD cheers!

Just got to 4 years old and 40k on the clock and the only things Ive had to do is put fuel in it, change tyres and brakes and servicing. Its a truly unique car. Not many around so its a real head turner. I would recommend nothing less than a cooper s if you can afford it. Mine is in british racing green with the JCW bodykit. Its an absolute pleasure to drive. So much fun and thats the main idea. You aren't buying one of these for fuel efficiency or practicality...its all about the fun. When I see it parked up it always makes me smile and I've had many compliments from people young and old. Finding a good one with all the bits is becoming harder and harder but when you do find one...do not hesitiate to buy it :)

Only and idiot would test drive a convertible in the rain. Ive had two of these roadsters, an auto and a manual JCW and I loved them. I've also had the standard 2dr Cooper S and the All4 versions and hands down the Manual Roadster is the one I miss the most.

Faytal1616 because people don't seem to understand that carmakers have to sell cars to earn money. As an owner of several classic Minis I can say that the MINI is not the classic but it's probably a very Good evolution. All the critics should think again and explain why they all didn't buy classic Minis in 2000. Had Rover or later BMW sold like 100.000 per year, they would have had a very good incentive to develop it and continue it in its classic form. It's not BMW who's to blame but those buying Fiestas, Polos, 205s and all the othe small hatchbacks instead of Minis.
