Mini Cooper Halogen to LCI2 Full LED Headlight Retrofit

I’ve been wanting the mini with these headlights since I decided I wanted a mini! So it was a bit painful that the one I eventually bought, ticked all the boxes apart from the headlights!
So after a long research I started hunting for the parts on eBay.
To break it down the following are the part numbers for these headlights:
63115A01964 - LCI2 RHD R Black
63115A01963 - LCI2 RHD L Black
90097751 - DRL/ Indicator module for passenger side
90101131 - DRL/ Indicator module for drivers side
9477748 x2 - modules for low/high beam
If you’re doing this upgrade from halogen then you need to rewire the headlights. I compared the halogen wiring diagram against the LCI2, and prepared the table on that paper in the video.
You might also need to update your BDC. There are a couple forums on this, so do your homework before you start buying anything.
You will obviously need to code the new headlights, which is a massive task. I probably did most of the research on that. I used E-sys but got stuck after I got them to light up, so I had someone help, especially with clearing all the errors in the end.
Do this at your own risk, and make sure everything will work, and the retrofit is physically possible.
I got quoted ridiculous amounts for this retrofit ranging from £1200 to £1500! Coding alone ranges from mates rate £50 to £130, done remotely!
All in all I managed to do this complete retrofit for £400.

@@kopano.raophala if you already have the LED headlights you don’t need all this effort to rewire. Only plug and code.

Hi mate Could I do this to my mini F56 one D. It’s got good spec just don’t have the LED lights im gonna get Pre LCI lights but just didn’t know if the BDC Body Domain Controller might be different stopping me from doing this

As far as I’m aware BDC version 15 onwards will work. Something about some options that need it to be CAN3 equipped.

Have you tried the low beam at night? Mine is awful 2 different shape of square even if you adjust the up down or side to side screws, still projects low on the road with square shape not universally even like factory headlights!

Love the look, but I’m curious what the coding does? When you code it is it just clearing the code or do you have to be a specialized coder ?

  • @DanielSarvari

A lot more than that. It would not work without coding. When the computer off this car came out from factory these headlights did not exist yet. So you are coding it in new… there are so many people doing this for a living and they can do it remotely.

No, that’s not good for deep coding. E-sys has to be used which is the bmw engineering software. Search for the Mini F56 Forum, thread “F56 LCI LED Headlights fit pre LCI cars” you’ll find all the info there and shout out for someone that can code it for you…
