Mini 2 vs Mavic Air 2: Endurance Test

Фильм және анимация

In this video, we test the difference in flight time between the DJI Mini 2 and the Mavic Air 2. The Mini 2 claims 31 min and battery time while the Mavic Air 2 claims 34 minutes. See which one last the longest and whether or not we reach the claimed flight time.

Considering the mavic Air 2 battery was not charged as much and with your results it's exactly as advertised for both drones..

BTW for some reason one of the MA2 cells voltage seems low compared to the other 2 cells...I wonder if one of the MA2 cells is going bad and hence why you couldn't get it to fully charge. Thoughts?

I often mess up and either turn the drone off while still recording and it sometimes corrupts the file, try "Wondershare Repairit" and it seems to have worked every time. I also have used it to recover some other videos seems to have worked on all.

Thanks! You don't say why that you get less flight time when you mention altitude as well. I know that it should be because of air density, and I know you do also. I used to fly off a field at almost a mile high. That was a factor. Still the test is equatable for both drones, except perhaps because of prop efficiency. Since DJI made both of them I expect that to be the same as well. Have you reviewed the props from other manufacturers yet? I'll have to look for that, but still quibbling over a few minutes, when most of us are probably not flying on a tight plan, is not a big deal. I like that the Mini 2 has better wind resistance than it once had. I will buy one for a friend for Christmas, and with the camera upgrades I think it's a good deal. Thanks again!

Yes, I should have mentioned the air density factor. I flew at 12000 MSL once and that was interesting! Completely different feel.

Awesome...Thank your for doing this video!!!! Super helpful. A couple of questions: 1- Did you happen to notice the voltage level on the 2 drones when they reached 0%? It's my understanding that if you fly a LiPo battery below X (3.5 or 3.2) volts you run the risk of damaging the battery.. I'm wondering if DJI initiates the forced landing when the battery reaches that magical voltage level to prevent you from damaging your batteries. 2 - On the MA2 is there anyway to set when the low battery level warning (aka obnoxious beeping) kicks in or is there any way to mute it once you've acknowledged the warning? I think the answer is No for the Mini 2 and I suspect that the same is true for the MA2 but I wanted to ask. If the answer is no I sure hope that DJI will change that because once the beeping starts it absolutely ruins the last X minutes of your flight. That or maybe they can replace the beeping with the actual wailing cry of a newborn baby as that would actually be less annoying. I'm jussayin....😉 3 - When the low battery level landing is initiated the UAS will automatically start to land regardless of it's position (even if it is not near you..i.e., maybe over the water)? Again I think I know the answer but just want to be sure.

Jeff, thanks! your question regarding the possibility of damaging the batteries is the most relevant, and I have not found (yet) enough responses on any forum that explains what needs to be done to protect them. I have not searched everywhere yet, though my fingertips say that they have - and so the question of low battery (based on the price of the batteries) is very relevant. I'd like to find some content on this that I can watch. I also thought you can set the landing area based on low battery levels, but at critical I have not yet thought about or read about it. You certainly can't go into hover, unless avoiding the inevitable for a time. I'd like to hear a wailing baby by the way, it's been so long!

@@kevinwells4986 According to this article (www.google.com/search?q=minimal+voltage+level+to+avoid+damaging+your+Lipo+batteries&rlz=1C1CHBF_enUS808US808&oq=minimal+voltage+level+to+avoid+damaging+your+Lipo+batteries&aqs=chrome..69i57.18095j0j7&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8) you should never allow your Lipo batteries discharge below 3.0V per cell or you will permanently damage them. I suspect that DJI has set it's drones to force land way before it could reach 3.0v. But that is why I asked my question.

I did not notice the voltage, when it got to 0% but I'm guessing you are right. Things happen quickly at 0% so we got too busy keeping them up in the air. You can't set the low battery warning in the DJI Fly app that I know of. Only in the Go4 app, so that's reserved for the Mavic Pro series and higher. That beeping is indeed super annoying, especially when both drones were doing it at 2 different times, you basically have a constant beeping! There's two levels of low battery, the critical one, it will land automatically and you have to keep it up in the air manually, regardless of where you are. And then when it gets to the 0% and needs to land, there's nothing you can do, controls are not responsive.

We will know very soon when the final ruling for Remote ID is published. Based on the NPRM, sub 250g drone would be exempt from Remote ID.

There is one test that no one has done, and that is "the line of sight." At what distance does the average person lose sight of their drone; which drones are more visible at a distance. I have 20/20 eye sight; and I fly a Mavic Pro 2; I did have a Phantom 3. For me, the Mavic Pro 2 is visible up to 850 to 900 yards; the phantom up to 1,000 yards. I believe the smaller the drone the shorter the distance and the larger the drone, the longer the distance. I asking you at what distance do you lose sight of your various drones. I will be asking others who do various test on drones the same questions. I hope to compile the information and post it on YuTube.

Only way to do an actual comparison of batteries between two drones. The battery will likely last longer if you actually fly at a constant speed for a specific distance but it's hard to replicate in the real world with two different drones. The actual length of time is not the importance, the difference in performance between the two is what matters here.
