Mineral Creek Colorado: The Alpine Loop's Best Kept Secret

Out of the 5 trail days that we spent in South Western Colorado in the summer of 2020, we ran Mineral Creek twice. Why? Well, because it is a connector to other trails and other parts of the Alpine Loop. . .but. . .It really is a GREAT trail that not enough people use. Most people that come to the San Juan Mountains will start their journeys in Silverton. That's GREAT and it is a hub, no doubt, but there is traffic! Mineral Creek has much less traffic AND has some fun obstacles thrown in to the amazing Colorado scenery! Also, if you want to run the hardest (only hard?) trail in the area, Poughkeepsie Gulch, you have to run at least part of Mineral Creek. Overall it is a fantastic trail either as a connector or as an adventure in and of itself.
Our vehicles are a TJ and 2 JLURs.
‪@LifestyleOverland‬ and ‪@TrailRecon‬ both have some GREAT videos of this part of Colorado!

This brought back memories! I love this and grew up in Silverton. My Dad took us up here in the summer all the time! Thanks for the memories :)

Would this trail be okay for a wider truck? Looking at doing this trail but I think our truck is too wide

@@4x4overlandadventures55 We came down this trail from Engineer by accident. I say accident because I didn't know what this path had in store for us. We were in a 2017 GMC crew cab 4x4 with 32'' tires and a leveling kit. Not the short box bed and not the long bed either. I believe it is called the standard box bed. Well, It was one hell of a trip for us. After a couple of difficult maneuvers i was wishing we could go back and take a different route, but there was no way my truck could climb back over what we had already came down from. So needless to say we messed up our running boards a little bit as we had to basically slid down the whole trail.

@@troyrawlings9159 Oh wait, you mean any stock 4X4 might not be well suited? That is certainly bad advice for a content creator to be passing out. There are plenty of inexperienced people heading out to these trails who shouldn't. And plenty more taking vehicles that absolutely should not be there. Mineral Creek is one of the most rugged trails in the San Juans and should not be attempted by anybody, or in just any stock 4-wheel drive vehicle.
