the 1.9 update to me felt great overall. the combat system actually helps people to diversify their fighting tactics instead of just masging one button. Because of the addition of end cities with op loot and the very useful Elytra, I think it's overhated and deserves an S tier

The 1.9 was super cool for survival, but not as great for PvP I still think 1.9 pvp requires more skill than 1.8. I don’t get why people hate it that much, I think it deserved at least a good tier

People went overboard over 1.9 combat, it only takes a tiny bit more focus than spam clicking. The one good point against it is that new players don't deal any damage because they don't know to time your attacks, but that could easily be fixed with a popup in the corner that says "wait till the attack bar is full to deal maximum damage" It would be an easy fix

That is because he rated them unequally and number of features rather than how good the features were, I think that 1.9, 1.10, 1.11 and 1.15 deserve a bit higher and 1.12 needs to be good tier, 1.8 should be lower because it was kinda small and made barely any difference. Edit: 1.15 was not a boring update.

1.12 was great for builders. It was litteraly called colour update cuz it added concrete and terrecota,wool textures became more vibrant.I think the update is just hated cuz it was something that minecraft needed but not at that time which was the dark ages and what mc needed was just a update like the 1.13 aquatic update.

1.7 was a best tier for me, they actually improved biome generation a lot and satisfied lots of players, it's a shame that you didn't do more research into what was added in that version.

Then the world of colors added concrete which were much better than the disgusting terracotta. Then 1.10. sure the update wasn’t good but he didn’t mention the Husks and strays. 1.9 was a good update. Combat, especially with mobs, was very much lacking and didn’t really add much challenge to the game. It’s still somewhat lacking, but the update added a lot of new additions that makes players get a bit more creative with their approach. The later, stronger mobs definitely fit the style of combat that 1.9 introduced, and I don’t think we would’ve had things like Ravagers or Wardens without it. On top of that, end cities completely revamped the endgame of Minecraft and allowed so much more to happen post-dragon. Top tier update imo

@@galegopaulista4564 as an 360 owner i can say that 1.9 combat update didn't happened, only the end update happened, and we are currently stuck in 1.13 without the combat changes, which is probably every 1.8 player fever dream. Also, iirc ps4 legacy players are on 1.14 console and bedrock aswell

popularity is kind of a reflection on how good the update was, also when Minecraft is popular typically a lot more in the community is happening, so Minecraft is usually more fun when it's popular. that's just my opinion though

Its not really 1.9 combat thats bad its the fact that mojang changed it so drastically. Like imagine you spend a LONG time working on your pvp skills and mojang just releases an update that completely slaps you in the face with the combat. That is what happened to me and why 1.9 is so hated.

Regardless if you click 5 CPS or use a 50 CPS counter, if you can't do the accurate movements, W and S tap, knockback and using projectiles you are in a disadvantage. Technoblade clicks at about 6 CPS and he absolutely destroys nearly all players he encounters simply because he has mastered the techniques. Same with lots of top players as well. 1.8 PVP is more than just colliding with an enemy and just pressing click fast

You certainly forgot that 1.11 Exploration update added rocket power to elytras making them the single most useful traveling tool

This is the second time I'm watching one of your videos, I'm getting ready to subscribe

Some things to note : 1) 1.7 : A lot of people argue about this , here's the thing . 1.7 added almost HALF of all the biomes we know today , it's underrated , it also added new commands , music discs and more than only biomes . 2) 1.15 : If you're going to say bees are useless , you forgot that honey blocks are a good redstone component to use , it also can break your falls if you land on the side and reduces the damage if you land on it . Also , you can use honeycomb to craft candles which are imo a very cool lighting item , it also can be coloured . Bees also help boost the growing process of crops of you out them near them . They aren't that bad . And also the amount of bugs fixed in it , it's so much , so give it some credit . Btw it also added that respawn feature , before 1.15, you couldn't set your spawn with a bed unless it's nighttime , after 1.15 you can . 3) 1.12/ 1.12.2 : For builders , this update did bring so much things like concrete and granite and andesite ( diorite is ugly imo ) ,you can use them to craft really blyatful builds If you know how . Also 1.12.2 has a lot of mods in it , it almost compares to the amount of mods that 1.7.10 has. 4) 1.9 : Don't get me wrong , 1.9 is not that bad imo , it added shulkers and elytras and end cities which are very cool and more than that . And if you want the old combat system play in Bedrock edition . It also added mending so without it we cannot use xp to mend our tools and weapons . 5) 1.8 : It's overrated imo , it didn't add much to it , and if you want to play the old combat system , play bedrock edition , again . Not because hypixel runs on it means it's good . If hypixel made a version for bedrock then no need for staying in 1.8 . 6) 1.5: Not because you don't understand Redstone means it's bad, like fr . If it didn't add those comparators and hoppers we cannot create big automatic farms and automatic storage systems and other very cool stuff . It's helpful for a lot of reasons and helped a lot of players so it should be ranked higher than it is . 7) 1.0 : the best Minecraft update because without it Minecraft wouldn't be officially released . It's the basis for every update . 8) Consider modifying the video and adding 1.17 because it dropped in June , and it added A LOT of content in it , more than 100 features and bug fixes .

Even couriway thinks that 1.16 is better for speedrunning than of 1.17, bc it doesnt really affect speedrunning that much, and I think it would lag the game a little there are also useless structures that might even ruin the good structures for speedrunning, idk how much it would affect speedrunning. Also, I dont think it would affect other types of Skills in Minecraft(like PvP and Speedrunning). I think it would only benefit building, redstone and exploration. So its a good tier, not a best tier

@@idie6606 talking in a regular person/most of minecraft wayit adds way more redstone mechanics adds a lot of new mobs including the warden may i remind you is the first blind mob unique and scary/smart its also guarding a new structure which will have good loot to make it worth dealing with the warden they also add archeology which might not be the best but does now exist and improved cave generations new mountains wich can reach up to 230 blocks increased height limit increased bedrock floor, a ton of new blocks new ore variants different types of cave biomes which tbh everyone wanted and even more stuff that i dont want to type out. Sorry for the essay comment but it defenetly deserves to be at the very least best tier

It's actually a very great update for builders, they have more range of color and texture blocks to mix and match their builds. That's why it's called the world of color update. Unfortunately, it was released not at the right time.

Yeah but you gotta think back then it made hundreds of great creators and hundreds of thousands to quit. There was still alot of players but alot quit. So alot of mc content went downhill. And the mc creators drifted towards other games: overwatch fortnite etc. And then when it got "revived" in 2018 and then triple revived in 2020 & 2021 so the creators came back because minecraft was getting views. *WARNING RANT AHEAD:* I dont have any respect for people who did this. Because they arent playing because they like the game they are playing because the game gets views.

you can't deny the fact that 1.9 is still a gamechanging update for survival in a good way even if you hate the combat system, in late game elytras are the only efficient ways to travel thousands of blocks within a couple of seconds. it deserves to be on a better tier for sure

1.8.9 and 1.12.2 are the most played versions for custom maps, since those are the updates before the ones that changed command syntax.

1:04 if you ask anyone what version has the most mods, they would probably say 1.7 1.12.2: bruh

I was so used to seeing terracotta for the desert temple that I almost forgot that it used to be wool.

I love the new combat system, infect it is actually one of the mane reasons I got a pc so I can play java. I don't know why it's so hated, it makes it so you have to fight things with some skill instead of the only skill being 20cps. Behind 1.17 it is the best update in my opinion

I am a little bit confused by how the number of the update works. But 10 years ago, I started playing Minecraft (on a pirated version), and I remember pretty well that it was 1.7.3 and 1.8.1. I wonder which updates are these versions part of? Is it just 1.7 and 1.8? There are some stuff in there that seem pretty new to me like Savanah biome. I don't remember having these back then.

5:30 1.11 should have been at least average. The update coming out at a bad time does NOT mean it's a bad update

Wouldn't put 1.11 in the bottom tier, it added totems of undying and the ability to use rockets with elytra, before this elytra was just a hangglider disguised as wings, also shulker boxes which are super helpful

Totems were pretty much useless before 1.14 (outside of hardcore mode obviously) due to their extreme rarity, pretty much only being a trophy item for most players

Damn I remember before ocean update the oceans were depressed it just gravel and squids and sand now its joyfull

I left the game around 1.4 after I played since beta 1.3, mostly because I was a teenager and I was everyone mocked minecraft. Also I discovered a whole bunch of new games. But in December I returned for the caves and cliffs update and I had to learn the entire new combat system and I actually liked it tbh.

Fun fact:dual wealding was originaly going to be added in 1.3 but it was scrapped till 1.9

Unpopular opinion 1.9 is a best teir I like both pvp equally but adding the offhand slot was amazing

@@Greeeyt no, the hit delay is garbage, there is no strategy with hitting block man with blue lego sword, and to quote technoblade- QUIT PRETENDING THIS IS CHESS. I can agree that being good based on how fast you can click is bad but making a stone axe better than a diamond sword is very dumb.

For me the most nostalgic update is 1.5 (1.5.2.). So many good and early minecraft memories (I played minecraft for the first time in, I guess 2011 - 2012). And it was the first version where I played multiplayer servers.

I like how he played the Mario bee song during the bee update.

Some minor discrepancies: -1.12 was for the builders what 1.5 was for the restoners -1.9 is good tier -1.7 is good tier cus it introduced a lot pf the fun biomes

1.12.2 deserved to be placed in good, because it was targeted to builders. The vast array of what you could build with these blocks, along with the color tweaks on previous blocks, made that update really stand out. Many people had wanted "flat color blocks" for a long time, and Mojang finally delivered. Good tier. 1.9 encouraged shield camping, so I agree with you that it is faulty tier.

Just because it's the best for one part of the community doesn't mean it's the best for the entire community

I started playing Minecraft when the Aquatic update was added, and i was completely amazed by it

I remember buying a minecraft magazine that showed news, seeds and a lot of cool stuff and I was always excited about every update Some of these updates actually had a bit more stuff in them and I dont agree with putting decent updates to the bad tier since they didnt revive the game

People that hate 1.9 is just a soykid that is mad that the combat in minecraft are not spammy anymore. Also, DO THESE KIDS KNOW THAT THERE ARE OTHER GREAT THINGS ADDED IN 1.9 LIKE ELYTRA,END CITIES AND OTHER COOL STUFF??

No, I hate 1.9 because it was the most divisive update. Mojang took very little community feedback with the update, making the new combat unable to translate well with preexisting minigames. Worst of all, using it was mandatory if you wanted to play on new versions (they've denied the suggestion of adding a world option for it) and thanks to this update, many servers remain in the 6 year old version 1.8 to this day. I am hoping the next update to combat might fix the problems people have with the current one.

Dude, without 1.5 minecraft would be nowhere where it is today, and you call it average...

Maybe it's because I love building but concrete has honestly been one of my favorite additions. Before terracotta and concrete all we had to work with was bland blocks or obnoxious textures. To this day whenever I find a good area for my base I start shoveling.

9:02 The weapon cooldown is cool because it makes PVP more realistic.

7:47 Those 3 blocks aren’t ugly if you craft the polished versions of them. I use them in my survival world a lot and I love them now

the amount of frustration this tier list gave me.

1.11.2 was the update that we finally could fly with fireworks. For me it was a really nice update.

i’m nostalgic for 1.7-1.8, at least i think idk what the names for the ps3 updates are edit: so i started playing Minecraft: PS3 Edition in January 2014, and i wondered what version that was. I'm nostalgic of TU28 on Xbox 360(Most recent update was 1.8.8 on Java). The old tutorial worlds give me so much joy! unfortunately, I deleted most of the old tutorial worlds :( However, I still have some of them to this day. I think the newest one I have is the 1.12 one, so that's sad.

honestly, as an mmorpg player, i prefer the new combat in minecraft i like having to wait between hits because it feels more engaging for me like i'm actually doing something rather than just clicking but it definitely took me a bit to get used to in minecraft when the update came out

I started playing Minecraft in late 2016 and even though it was the dark age, it still gave just enough new features to keep me entertained.

This video is biased, it is clear you prefer 1.8 combat, also 1.12 has 2b2t, a lot brighter colors and more mods than 1.7

You shouldn’t condemn him for preferring the old combat. It was objectively a simpler time and the division and destruction of the community at the time speaks for itself. Updates are supposed to strengthen communities, not tear them apart. Mojang’s (or Microsoft’s now) direct refusal to add a combat gamerule proves they have no real reason other than attracting new players and getting rid of old ones for doing it. It’s also clear that a large part of the reason for doing it was to attempt to kill Java edition, something Microsoft has wanted to do ever since they acquired Minecraft. This is proven by the fact that all bedrock edition platforms, PC included, conveniently don’t have the combat changes and still work as they used to. I’ve never met someone who started playing before 2016 who preferred new age combat. The people who like 1.9 are people who didn’t play the old way for years prior, they’re people who that’s all they’ve ever known.

1.13 simultaneously revived Minecraft’s popularity and revolutionized what a Minecraft Update could and should be. And that’s not even considering the features it actually had. For me, it’d be best tier if not for Phantoms.

1.7 is one of best updates ever. This update added half of the biomes we know today

1.11 was the NEW 3DS/2DS XL Edition’s last ever update. It’s the only version of MC on a portable console that is void of the Update Aquatic. The 3DS Edition final update is 1.9.19 (and yes, this is the update that finally added Woodland Mansions to MC NN3DSXLE).

The dark age of minecraft was the time I started getting hyped about the updates

Diorite, Granite, and Andesite all can be turned into polished versions making them look amazing and perfect for huge castle like structures.

I think the new combat system makes fighting more satisfying in my opinion.

Honestly, I prefer 1.9 combat over 1.8 combat. Mainly because, as mentioned, it's a bit more skillful. Don't get me wrong, you can be skillful in 1.8 combat, but 1.9 combat makes you take it slower with combat, and I quite enjoy that. To bad I can't really use 1.9 combat on like Hypixel

You missed some stuff in 1.8 ,you missed : the slim skin option being added ,elder guardians, ocean monument's , new sword block animation, a somewhat small but still sometimes noticeable attack delay , removing being able to break blocks while eating/ blocking with a sword / have a bow drawed all the way back, your hunger bar regenerating in peaceful mode , spectator mode , etc

1. The polar bears were added after Jebs son was born 2. The Green axolotl was one of the scrapped colors of an axolotl
