If the items don't have a golden counterpart they will either turn into a golden block or a gold ingot. One of my main thoughts with this snapshot was really how, while there's a lot of random, wacky features, some are pretty tame and seem like they'd have high possibility of being added properly with the knowledge that they actually function and work Mainly thinking of the command ones, like player size, morphing into mobs, and changing a biome's color tome, but a handful of others could work quite well too (Copper Spleaves would be a genuinely good block to have in the game for a variety of reasons)

    0:55 "An entire development studio of hundreds of people and they all just what, rub this in our faces and have agreed to create this snapshot to do so?" I mean... it's not the first time they've done it. The 2020 April Fools Update was arguably better than the Caves & Cliffs, Wild, and Trails & Tales Updates combined. It showed that Mojang 'could' easily implement a lot of things that a lot of the player base was asking for, but didn't. And now, the 2023 April Fools Update is basically bringing up those old feelings again. It's basically a more refined version of the things people saw and wanted three years ago... but again, relegated to an update that will never see patches, or bug fixes, or have any degree of compatibility with future updates. I don't think anyone really cared too much about the Sniffer, or Camels, or Dig Sites. To me they feel like a bunch of things thrown together to bulk out an otherwise lackluster update. Because, let's be honest; when more people are excited about the April Fools update than the upcoming update to the main game, you're missing the mark somewhere.

    They used the infinity snapshot to test a lot of the terrain intensive stuff that would later come to datapack creators in later versions (allowing players to add dimensions, biomes, modify terrain shape, etc). As far as I'm concerned, this update is probably testing the waters for a lot of cool technical stuff down the road.

    I wonder if the "copper spleaves" block's name is a reference to the game of spleef and how the blocks act like you're being spleefed. I tried to check what "spleaves" were and got nothing so this is my only guess of that. Regardless I would love to see something like this in the vanilla game. I know we have drip leaf but these blocks also break vertically which could make them interesting for elaborate adventure maps and mazes in survival where you get areas you need to push against.

    Also, added note about the serious talk at the beginning (which I think Xisuma also mentioned in the last video), some features from these joke snapshots actually do make it into the game. None some of the sillier stuff, of course... but as an example, tinted glass panes/blocks were originally shown in a joke snapshot and then later added into the real game. The infinite snapshot a few years ago helped as a demonstration/testing case for the new dimension handling they had actually added in around that time. I like to think of these joke snapshots as 75% jokes and silliness, and 25% proofs of concepts to see how actual players interact with some ideas they have in their minds. • @kaleidico

    @kaleidico

    Been releasing free updates since I was in preschool, has consistently released new updates each year, and for less than 30 dollars. Not to mention not a single gameplay feature has made the game detrimentally worse other than the one ghost stingray that the players voted for themselves. We are perhaps the most spoiled community on the planet. I'm almost jealous of game communities like Terraria's that have a community that enjoys the base game as much as they do mods without bullying the developers. Edit: adding it here instead so hopefully more people will see it. Minecraft is no longer a game made by an indie studio. Some will hold that against them for why they should be making more each update, but it is a miracle they are still going. More developers puts more strain on the development cycle, meaning from pitch, to concept art, to modeling, to play testing, to texturing, to animating, to snapshot release, to bug fixes, to merchandizing all has a team behind it. People complain about the marketplace because microtransactions, but that is how they make most of their money, and if they didn't have merchandise or the marketplace, they probably make each update a paid dlc to fill their quota. Take one look at gamefreak, and you can see how an indie studio going big can degrade the quality of the gameplay. Minecraft is also 3d, run on java, and the best selling game in the world. Special care has to be taken to keep up the quality of the updates, and that is evident with HOW MUCH FRICKIN CONCEPT ART THERE IS.

    I would agree if it wasn't for the fact that mojang clearly could add some of the features into the game if they wanted to. Vertical slabs is no different from normal slabs from a technical perspective, they're just rotated differently. Maybe there could be one or two extremely rare edge cases but not to mention the negligible effect they would have, they'd probably get fixed before anyone really finds out. Movable tile entities is already in bedrock, so there is absolutely no reason why they can't add that to java as well if they have the tech for it (sure there would be bugs, but considering how huge of an improvement movable tile entities would be it's easily worth sacrificing some development time to fix those bugs) not to mention they keep talking about wanting parity. Those are just two examples, but I can understand why most of the snapshot's features would never make it to vanilla (for obvious reasons) but I honestly am distraught at the thought that this april fools update might mean that these features are just that, a joke, and will thus never be taken seriously and added to the game. Part of me hopes that this snapshot is a test run to see how the community receives the features and how buggy and game breaking they are, but we'll have to wait and see to find out what Mojang's thoughts are.

    I think you misunderstood what the issue actually is; Yes these features were made out of jokes, yes they were thrown in without much considerations or balance, yes they are not fully fleshed out BUT it feels like so many of them could still very well be implemented into the game if not as "main content" then at least like some fun game rules and such, like the lava you have shown in 12:16 for eXample, it very much could just be in a subcategory of gamerules named FUN and all of them would be turned off by default. Things like block placer and destroy could be just in creative inventory or only for Server Operators to find more applications for them as the game develops. Locking these features behind snapshot seems like an unnecessary handicap in my opinion and doing it the way I mentioned above would just result in like effectively more testing for them. Say if the eXample of the block placers people will find huge applications for them mojang could once a while tweak their properties and check again on how community utilizes them and if they would be a good addition or not. Something like that animated copper thing would be very fun to see applied naturally in the game with objects relevant to the game like imagine if the "portal" in the Ancient City was actually a portal but they would animate it's opening or something like they did with the copper thing from the moon. Or just have them make a few simple presets people could just see and come up with, like an inspiration or something. The point being they made all of this as a joke, but I feel like there is so much potential here going to waste, just as a joke like yeah it does seem ridiculus to have them all at once thrown together thoughtlessly, but if you look at them one by one it just feels like "why not give them a try, worst they could do is say, sorry this doesn't work out, not going into standard game experience."

    Some of my other favourite things of the April Fools update are that cobble stone, smooth stone, and basalt generators now produce a random block. Togehter with the pickaxe block, it means you can farm the oddest blocks. And also, villager trading now can accept random items rather than emeralds. That can make trading easier, but it can also make it far more difficult.

  • @kane2742
    @kane2742 Жыл бұрын

    For the pickaxe block, I think it should have a slot to put a pickaxe. Each time the block is used, the pickaxe loses the same durability that it would if it were used manually, and it can only mine things that you could mine by holding the same pick (so no mining bedrock). When the pick breaks, you have to replace it for the block to work again. That seems like it would solve the balance issues. For automation, you could have a hopper above the block, ready to replace a broken pickaxe with a new one - you'd just have to craft some extra pickaxes first and put them in the hopper. Edit: Maybe there could also be additional pickaxe slots in the block itself. That would make things like the tunnel borer in this video easier to build and more compact than if you had to set up hoppers for each pickaxe block.

Sure there are lots of things that people want but they can't add all these features at once. Data they collect from this snapshot could help Mojang to know which features to focus on first for upcoming updates.

    No, I whole heartedly believe they are mocking us, they put features in that would be amazing in the game permanently but they won't add because some of these features would be either cool additions to the game or convenient and we all know mojang hates things that are convenient or cool. Yeah, they do add some cool things but emphasis on some. Like Mojang has literal millions of testers at their fingertips so they could add whatever they/we want and have years worth of testing and feedback in days but instead they add next to nothing every update and more often than not the things are useless or inconvenient in some way.
