people don't realize they are no actual dogs in minecraft. there is only wolves and different types of wolves. this makes a lot more sense and they should be happy with what they are getting

People on Twitter complain about everything... I've seen people complaining that Mojang is wasting time adding "reskins" of existing mobs instead of adding new stuff. They did this with the Bogged too. EVEN THOUGH WE LITERALLY ASKED FOR THIS. Its ridiculous. And then those same people go and complain about how Mojang never listens to the community. Makes no sense.

Maybe Mojang will do a similar thing to wolves that they did with cats. (For those who don't know Mojang held a poll where the community could vote on an IRL cat to be added to Minecraft. The winner was the cat of GoodTimesWithScar, jelly.)

The cats has also 9 variants, so it’s the same. Also, the fishs have random variants of colors. Not man made. I would expect them to at least give them another model, but it’s fine.

The Regular/Pale Wolf, Woods Wolf, Black Wolf and Chestnut Wolf variants are most likely based on the Timber Wolf. The Ashen Wolf and Snowy Wolf variants are based on the Arctic Wolf or still maybe be based on the Timber Wolf. The Rusty Wolf variant is based on the Dhole. The Spotted Wolf variant is based on the African Painted Dog. The Striped Wolf variant is based on the Striped Hyena, even though Hyenas are not even canines and are actually closely related to felines instead.

So yeah non of these are based on actually dog breeds. These are based on real wild species of canines that are across the world. Well except the Striped Wolf because it's based on a the Striped Hyena.

@@Lacreya Yeah true that makes more sense to be based on the Aardwolf even though it's a species of hyena. Mojang could have used the Arabian Wolf as inspiration for the variant that could be found in the badlands. But hey I still like the Striped Wolf variant.

As a crab voter, I'm impressed with how they dealt with the features they promised to add with the armadillo. It would've been neat to have extended reach, though. But at least we have extra protection and further customization for our wolves, now having over 800 million possible variants for wolves (16 collar colors, 9 variants, over 10 million wolf armor colors).

Btw the spotty wolf's based off african painted dogs, and the sriped wolf is indeed based off some sort of hyena.

if you breed two different wolf types, the child's fur pattern will be randomly determined -- for example, if you have a chestnut and ashen wolf and you breed them together, there's a 50% chance the baby wolf will have one or the other parent's fur pattern

I love that the savana wolf is an African wild dog, and the jungle wolf is a maned wolf, as well as the striped hyena variant,their all so cool

If you want a corgi wolf, I think you might consider them possibly adding the Swedish Vallhund -- basically wolf corgis, if you're wondering. Doubt that'd be added, though.

We should get a dire wolf wich should work like spiders being neutral in day and hostile in night. Have their own special cave they guard with some beginners loot(Will get angry if you take it,same as piglins) and have some spikes hair that points out of its fur while also being a but bigger and stronger.

I love how they’re based off of different canids from around the world, notably wolves, wild dogs, hyenas (not canids) and the jungle one which might be a dhole? Not completely sure. There’s so many that still aren’t in the game that they have to add imo though.

I can already see KZreadrs making videos on collecting every wolf variant in their hardcore worlds...

They are definitely going to give this an achievement like the achievement you can get with cats.

I wonder if there will be an achievement for taming all of the wolf variants

we wouldn't have gotten this if the crab won 100%

I wish they would add breeding variants like if you bred a snowy wolf with a spotted wolf you would get a white wolf with spots, that would create an almost infinite amount of creativity and variation, it would also make minecraft more realistic and you could make many different dog breeds

With the pattern I’m noticing we should have more crops in Minecraft soon.

Um... No? People have been asking for wolf variants for years now. There are TONS of different mods that add different wolf variants, I highly doubt that one single mod was what convinced them.

In the 13 years Minecraft has had wolves people have been asking for more varients, 10's of Mods have added wolf varients to the game over the years and you assume a single one for some reason. Also this is a new feature not parity with anything preëxisting

@@whateverIwasthinkingatthetime Indeed. Parity means that it's a feature that exists in 1 version, but not the other. This does not include mods, as mods aren't the base game.

At this point, this update is officially and exploration update, the new armor and biome customization options for dogs, and the trial chambers. Finally, there is also the armadillo found specifically in a savanna biomes.

This update, they said, would focus on "combat, exploring, and tinkering". I feel like they've still got more ideas to consider for 2.21 before it fully releases. Also, is it just me, or has the crafter been forgotten about? I barely see people talking about it nowadays...

I really like the two white pixels on top of the eyes that the textures add once their tamed. It’s a nice touch.

Fun fact: The Ashen Wolf is based off of the Siberian Husky, the Rusty Wolf is based off the Asian Dhole, The Spotted Wolf is based off of the African Wild Dog, The Striped Wolf is based off of a hyena, and the Snowy Wolf is based off of the Arctic Wolf. Also the Striped and Spotted are larger packs because of the size of those animals in real life

You should make a video on the main channel, where you try and tame all 9 variants!

There should be an achievement called "Best Friends" (unless there is one already called that) And you get it from taming all 9 wolf variants.

the origin of Knarfy: he was a snowy wolf alot smarter than the others but was outcasted while growing up he made new friends and foes but 1 thing is for sure this lone wolf has finally found its pack

I like the new designs but the old one is still my favorite.

I didn't realize the rusty wolf was based off dholes, I assumed they were based on red wolves! So many cool critters being represented!

I think they should definitely add a green wolf for the mangrove biome & a pink wolf for the cherry blossom biome. But I definitely still do really like that they added this feature, I can now make a giant army of each dog type (Which should definitely be a new achievement)

YAY!!! Wolves/dogs variants!!! I'm SUPER happy!! I literally can't be any less happy!!! Puppies!!! I'm so glad that the default wolf is still in the game. It makes sense that they only spawn in Taigas [now]. Its actually cool that they're Biome exclusive (sorta). Mojang, THIS is how you encourage exploration! Not force everyone to play the game the same way & force them to grind even more than usual _JUST_ to get like, that _ONE_ villager enchant you want!! The doggies/wolves look so cute!!!! Ohmygosh!!! I feel like I'm gonna EXPLODE!!!! First Wolf Armor and _NOW_ this!?!? Omygosh!!! One of the BEST new features ever!!! First we got Trial Chambers [with Bogged & Breeze] which are really, really cool but not technically necessary (I like that), then Armadillos, little cuties, then Wolf Armor [super awesome!], & now more wolf/dog variants!!! Now I can have my puppies (or at least a few) in Minecraft!! 🐕❤ The black & orange one can be used as a "traditional" German Shepherd & either the yellowy one or tan-ny one with dark snoot can be used for a German Shepherd (like, Shepherds who are more tan & black than brown & black).

i reckon the spotted wolf is supposed to be like an african wild dog. if u don't know what that is look it up. it will make ur day better.

Now we just need dog breeds, like corgis!

Ok, hear me out.... Armor trims should work on wolf armor As a programmer, this would be some annoying amount of work to do (making the texture and placing the texture on the armor correctly) but it would add to the customization of wolves

but the "breeds" in minecraft are wolves. they're based on real-life wolves. normal dogs aren't really wolves that appear in the wild. doubt we'd get dogs in the game any time soon (and yes, i'm referring to dogs & wolves as separate things here).

I love that he said it's more likely my dog is coded in, my dog is a gray with black spots Great Dane. I love him so muchhh. I've taught my dog to jump up on me (and only me) and he puts his front paws on my waist and I pretend to slow dance with him, very fun. And when he stands on his hind legs he is face to face with me (5'9'')

doubt -- the wolf variants are based on real species of wild wolves, not domestic dogs. for example, i heard that the rusty wolf was based on the dhole and the spotted one was based on the african painted wild dog, both wild wolves.
