Great idea

To get the diamond ore without silk touch, you put the diamond in the middle slot of the crafting table, then put cobble stone in the rest of the slots. This will create the ore block. Hope this helps :)

BTW you can do this without mods there is a snapshot with infinite dimensions but you need to wright a book and throw it into a normal nether portal
