he used a diamond pickaxe but fortune only works on ores that give the ingot, not a smeltable block. for example, iron wouldn't work because you need to smelt it but diamonds would because you dont

The reason the fortune did not work on the obsidian is because fortune only works on blocks that drop something other than themselves.

Smite does extra damage to undead mobs example: Skeleton,zombie And you can only break gold with iron,diamond or netherite pickaxe Not even gold can break gold and punch is basically like knockback And thorns is the one that if they hit you they get dammaged

Fortune can’t work on blocks that don’t drop the material ie. iron, gold, ancient debris and doesn’t work on normal blocks but works on ores like lapis, red stone and diamonds. The reason why smite did nothing is because it does more damage to undead mods ie. skeleton and zombie but does no extra damage to other mobs
