Minecraft BE: HOW TO COMPACT REDSTONE! and why you shouldn’t!? (PE/Xbox/PS4/Windows10/Switch)

I need to start by apologising, that was a lot of talking! But sadly I feel it is something which needs to be said… getting my little rant out of the way, I hope you enjoy my personal ways to compact redstone on Minecraft Bedrock Edition (PE/Xbox/PS4/Windows10/Switch)

I made a 4x4 door in bedrock using slime and honey blocks wasn't very compact tho but it was all in sync without it staggering which I'm quite happy with. I understand redstone decent amount of redstone as I have an okay understanding of all the redstone components but I care more about making something that works than compacting it as long as I can fit it in my build.

A great example that comes to mind with speed vs size is the smallest non-seamless 5x5's. They use jukeboxes which makes it take anywhere from 6-15 mins to open. I am so glad that you are finally making a video talking about what you think is "best." I too like to find a balance between speed and compactness and it's so frustrating (or rather annoying) when someone says that it can be smaller because you just think to yourself if you should reply and explain or just let it be lol. I really liked the new style of video as well btw.

  • @TheBowTieMan

Exactly! It's all just choice :) Yeah I get similarly irritated when someone comments that 😅 Also I don't think creativity gets praised enough in the Redstone community... Mumbo for example maybe doesn't make the smallest possible builds, but his creations are always creative... And I know which type of video I would prefer to watch 😅

@@CraftyMasterman I do say that I have to side with you here. One of my friends who is new-ish to redstone has had great ideas but he doesn't want to share them until he is done with them. Anyone, even someone new to redstone can come up with an awesome idea, it's your ability to execute said vision or idea that makes you good at redstone. It can take YEARS to be one of the best at redstone, yet if you have a good idea and are decent enough to make it you will get more praise than he who can make it as good as it can be.

I've only been playing Minecraft (PE) for a couple months and I honestly have been wanting to make redstone myself, sadly I don't usually know where to start other than looking up tutorials and copying what people created. I've watched many people's video (eg. Mumbo's video on explaining every component's functions) but there aren't a lot of videos on the MCPE version, sometimes the builds I copied won't work. So I really appreciate a video like this where it talks about tips and functionalities of small systems that are useful to make builds, now I have more materials to work with. I have been using other people's contraptions for a few years since I played Minecraft. I have always been trying out redstone without fully taking a build off of someone but the only way I learn is to see how they make their builds, recreate it, make other things like it, and continue trying it out. I'm not a redstone God since obviously most of my builds aren't entirely mine, they're mostly just a bunch of others concepts and ideas and I try to twist it on my own but sometimes I just can't because nothing would work but how the original person made it. So I'm a bit sad that I can't entirely make my own contraptions or concepts but it's good that I know basic redstone. Thanks for the video!

I'm neither a redstone pro nor a noob but if you are new to redstone 1 tip I can give is *Complete the contraption first and the try compacting* Once you complete the contraption, the sense of accomplishment will keep you going and you will be more likely to compact the contraption. People generally burn out just because they try compacting whilst they are building the contraption and it mostly doesn't work out. It happened to me when I started doing redstone so I thought I will share

I think compactness is like a cherry on top of a great build. (I.e spacewalker’s 1.05 second 5x5) the speed is groundbreaking but it isn’t the smallest 5x5( 1014 blocks> 440 blocks.) I am fine with that though as the layout is unique and uses cool tricks like a zero tick bud. To me speed matters more but compactness and creativity are a bonus.

How I rate redstone builds: Complicatedness: how hard it seems to make work Compactness: how small it is (to a certain extent, I’m not to picky, but I’m not good at compacting so if it’s as small as I can make it it’s fine) Looks: Is there redstone or sticky blocks showing, I’m not picky about immovable objects And most importantly, how *SINK* it is: if 2 parts of the redstone do the exact same thing (like both sides of a 2 by 2) they must be in *SINK*

I think the most compact thing I did on my switch was an airlock type of door to go into your mine from your base that had only one block between the two doors. You'd step in on one side and throw a lever to switch witch door was open, and if you died in the mine you had an override button to let you back in. I made use of duel repeaters to avoid powering the pistons on both sides at once.

8:45 actually a 3 tick repeater will still work fine (incase you want the input a slightly quicker) because the comparator is 1 tick delayed and there are two of them so it's 2 ticks and 3 is bigger than 2 I also think a 2 tick repeater also works because they have the same delay (if I'm wrong then correct me I forgot if it's right to use 2 ticks 😂)
