I think a major issue of builds like that is, at least for me - the interior. I often end up with sth looking great on the outside but not being able to fit the number of floors i want or the size being too small to properly connect the rooms or different levels of the house etc.

That's an old comment but I'll reply anyway. Try adding moss instead of carpets and use the trapdoors and signs to decorate your shelves, crafting tables, beds, chairs and tables etc. You can also put many many item frames on your walls with things inside them that complement your colour palette as well as signs with texts on them that look like shapes (ascii art). Also mixed glazed terracotta floors look great with dark wood furniture.

LOL! I am the exact opposite! Which is why I always build everything underground! If I build the interior the way I want, the outside is hideous. So I just gave up and for years built all my homes underground. I hate it. Love this guy's video

  • @rosie3876

I used to (and still do) struggle with interiors so for practice I tried what I call the etho method - honestly I’m not even sure if it was from him originally however I distinctly remember an odd concept he did. From what I recall he built the interior first, no exterior. I use this quite a bit before making a shell of the exterior around it, they don’t have to fit exactly but being aware of the interior proportions allows some wiggle room in build size. Hope this helps!

Love watching your videos for ideas. Not a particular fan of your texture packs or some of your aesthetic choices, but the builds are amazing and easily customizable. Which is one of the reasons I enjoy these. A quick change of materials, an addition here or a substraction there, and it looks so different. Definitely earned my sub.

I love these types of videos! I've learned so much from so many wonderful builders and it's so crucial to actually pay attention while also keeping in mind that changing materials to fit your aesthetic is absolutely acceptable! I follow tutorials all the time and switch materials i don't have or like and i add or subtract as well to suit my needs and preferences. A tip id love to add is if you're going for a realistic feel, consider paths or building corners and how they wear down over time. Using more "torn" like blocks such as cobblestone, coarse dirt, etc

This is fantastic for ideas. The roofs are always a sticking point when I am building a structure as I always second guess myself with is this tall enough or to short and needs to be bigger. The biggest thing for me is the odd number as I seem to have to catch myself sliding back to even numbers which makes things ultra hard. Then have to tear it down and start over as I can never recover from it in my head. I love the way you show how one basic structure can have many faces. Now on that would you every make the tower taller? Or maybe extend the stables to the side with a small black smith in the back? I am also trying to start a small harbor town with a main bridge across to another mainland coast. Thank You for doing this and showing how to think out side the box to try and make fabulous builds from our imagination. Keep up the fantastic work Blue and can not wait for your next video

Thank you David, i'm glad you enjoyed it buddy. Roofs can be pretty tough but I think sometimes it's easy to over think it and talk yourself out of an idea that might actually work out really nice. I used to do that a lot to, but now I always try to just go with an idea and finish it as many times those ideas turn out better than we expect. Harbour towns are so much fun to do, I think they are one of my favourite things build, I'm sure you'll have a lot of fun building it. Thanks buddy =)

Such a big problem with creative works is self-doubt. Personally I never really figured how to dispel it, but if I were to guess a good way to reduce that is by expanding your knowledge on the work you’re trying to do.

  • @pleochroic

    @pleochroic

    2 жыл бұрын

@@TwistedFireX Good guess, that -- while it may not be possible to dispel all doubt (I think doubt is pretty natural for anyone who constantly pushes their own envelope and doesn't have an arrogant personality), the more you engage with the work, the better. IME building in creative mode really helps develop one's confidence. You have no distraction from mobs trying to kill you, you don't have to wrangle the resources first, you don't need to tear anything down, you can leave it standing, so you can compare 2 or 3 or more versions side-by-side and can observe what works and what doesn't. (And it's fun to come back a year or two or three later and see how much you have grown as a builder.) Practice is the key. Designing in survival is for people who need the additional challenges. ;)

I love building tips like this. My building "style" is very simplistic. I always build a 6x6 or 4x4 chunks pyramid base using the same pallet every time (obsidian, red nether brick, Quartz brick, then amethyst. Going one block higher every time.) Then I use some sea lanterns on the sides, then some going up from the door to the top. Then I use some Deepslate tiles to add some color variation. It may seem very complicated, but it always looks very simplistic. Even when I add beacons and a nice flooring. I also love changing it up sometimes. So, building tutorials for that style are very useful. You've earned a subscriber.

Some golden tips. I'm going to have to re-watch and take notes! I really liked the tip about making sure additions to the side of a building are smaller than that side. I JUST ran into that problem making my windmill stairwell.

Hey! Recently discovered your channel, thanks for all the building tips and designs. I have a hard time visualising the plan, so this helps a lot, makes me know what to do, and still do it in my own style :) Just a quick question, do you use replay mod to record your tutorials or a spectator? Not sure if you answered this somewhere already :) Thank you!

Yeah it's not easy running a job and doing KZread but stick with it. It takes time, but studying analytics is the best way to learn what your audience like most and that's what you should target most videos towards. I'm doing great thanks, seems a little crazy to see those numbers. I never expected the channel to come this far so I'm super thankful for all the support I've received. I'll have to plan something very special for 500K =)

@@BlueNerdMC that's exactly what I've been trying, testing everything out and finding a good balance, I've got a theory though why my international growth is slightly stunned and slowed down so much, and even a VPN couldn't help fix that, there's unfortunately not a large audience for our content in my country, so I'm struggling quite a bit to reach the audience that's out there... But won't give up, you're a great example and inspiration! I really appreciate you taking the time to reply with such a thoughtful weighted comment 🙂 Keep at it buddy, keep going with the momentum, I know that there a big things waiting for you out there! You could always plan a collab with an IRL architect for a video for special occasions 😉

So when it comes to more abstract shapes for the ground plan, I find that I'm constantly battling to figure out how the roof joins up with all the different pieces. Do you have any tips on how to handle roofs with more unique shaped buildings, especially ones that seem to come in from different directions?

This comment is a little bit old but I suggest building 1 normal ‘main roof’ first, and then slowly connecting the other bits to it one by one if that makes sense
