I honestly don't understand how people can "Not understand" teenagers. Do you not have memories to draw upon? Were you never a teenager? I teach 7th graders, and I'd wager that I could describe the exact feelings that any of my students are feeling, about 90% of the time. I remember what it was like to be them, and all I have to do is imagine myself in their position for about 2 seconds. Is this really such a rare ability? In my experience, most teachers don't seem to remember what it was like to be a child, and it's something I honestly find quite shocking, because those memories are extremely distinct in my mind.
@netforce13
3 жыл бұрын
Thats honestly an amazing and rare quality you have that I wished I had. I remember my teenage years but I'm guessing that maybe for a lot of others like me who didn't enjoy their teenage years and wanted nothing more than to grow up and out of a very vulnerable and humiliating phase, its not easy to put ourselves back easily. You're around teenagers a lot and also at the most important social structure in their lives, school, which is why you can understand easily. But the parents as home who lead completely different lives and don't often get a window into the lives of their kids, thats why they don't understand. I'm scared of getting to that point, where others have more knowledge of my kids life than me, I hope I'm a better parent than that. Other teachers though, I can't even offer an excuse for them besides they don't wanna be there.
@SRosenberg203
3 жыл бұрын
@@netforce13 I mean I get that. I didn't particularly enjoy my teenage years either, but that's part of why I remember the feelings of being that age so distinctly. The fact that you're even considering these questions means you're already a good parent. Bad parents are the ones who never reflect on their own behavior, and never think about how their behavior impacts their children. The fact that you're concerned over this makes you, by definition, a good parent. Nobody is perfect, but I'm sure you're doing your best, and that's all we really can do.
