It's a stubborn myth that running ruins knees... it actually strengthens them. The AVERAGE age of the pros is in their 30s, and I know MANY ultra runners in their 50s, 60s, and 70s. The slower pace and varied terrain are also easier on the body than running on the roads. I actually switched to ultras in my 40s because I'm just not as fast as I used to be. Running a slow 50k gives me far more fun and satisfaction than my fastest 5k ever did!

I think the reason a lot of people run those long races or go to the moon or break a world record is nothing more than the need to feel special and loved.
@Kelly_Ben
Жыл бұрын
I definitely wouldn't say it's to feel special and loved, because often, tackling giant challenges comes with big sacrifices to relationships... the time, energy, and money involved can lead to friction with jobs, families, etc. Most ultra runners i know, myself included, do it to prove something to OURSELVES... that we can keep pushing through tough times, overcome adversity, accomplish big things, etc. It makes us proud of OURSELVES, though often we're ridiculed our misunderstood by others. Never has someone crossed the finish line, or accomplished some other crazy thing, after months or years of investing time, money, and energy, , to then think "my family will REALLY love me now!" Unless it's because they're done and might take a break before the next one... 😂

There's no mindset about and it's simple really, here is how it works for everything even animals, at the very end of your muscles failing you should push yourself through it, you go all over again with full strength but each time you do it you body starts breaking Down physically, it's important to know when to stop, so it would actually improve you instead of destroying you.
