Mind Melds and Brain Beams: The Dawn of Brain-to-Brain Communication

Ғылым және технология

Music students download the technique of their favorite pianist or singer directly into their brains. Medical students download the skills of a seasoned surgeon or diagnostician. And each one of us routinely uploads our thoughts and memories to the digital cloud. While these scenarios still lie in the future, rudimentary versions of the necessary brain-to-brain technology exist today. But the ability to directly influence another person’s brain raises serious questions about human rights and individual freedoms. This program will present the latest technology and explore how the ethical implications of enhanced thinking go to the heart of consciousness itself.
This program is part of the Big Ideas Series, made possible with support from the John Templeton Foundation.

Anyone who has taken the right amount of stimulants or psychedelics with someone else can attest to the fact that telepathy is very real. And it's scary if you're not prepared to be on that plane because the realization that your secrets are not safe in your own head can be jarring. But if you can get past that, it's one of the most beautiful things you can ever experience as a human being.

We can already do this naturally. We know when human beings interact with each other often their brain waves come into synchronicity. Our brain waves tend to sync up. There are practical experiments we can do to demonstrate this to ourselves but it would be difficult to explain scientifically unless both beings were hooked up to an EEG. When we finish each others sentences it can be partly because we know from context what will be said and how a person usually speaks but sometimes we hit it so hard on the head or we say it before the person even speaks and that person is dumfounded and maybe even suspicious of how you knew what they were going to say. I had a boss who thought I could read her mind and it made her fearful of me. Not only can we sometimes connect to the thoughts of others but we can also influence or even give them over. There is a level where we become so certain of what the person is thinking and we would not even understand why we are so sure but I believe it is because we know at this point. Second guessing it will throw it if but if we remain certain we can make use of this. This is just another way human beings communicate. We use voice, body language, chemical signals and, yes brainwaves. This works on animals as demonstrated in the video but I did my own experiment. Perhaps I will get brave enough to try to recreate it and actually record it. You will have to take my word for it or not. You could also try this at home. Now I did have a new dog in the house we had just picked up from an animal shelter. I felt a real connection to this dog at the shelter and so did the man working there. He cried when our dog left the shelter and that in itself is unusual. Now this also has to do with out previous dog who broke our hearts. I used to lay on the couch and call him up and he would lay across my chest. The new dog was not responding to anything. Hew sat there blinking nervously and would not come when called or give a paw or even make eye contact. I began to wonder if this dog would ever trust us or like us and if we were going to become attached to him the same way as our last. We were still having a hard time with the loss of our family dog. I next get this idea in my head that was very certain. Without a word I was gong to make this dog listen to me. I do not know why or how I knew this was going to work however I was so certain of it I told my wife " Watch this, you are not gong to believe it." I walked over to the couch and thought about the new dog climbing up on the couch and laying on my chest in teh exact same fashion as the pervious dog he had never met. Remember we just got this dog home. I laid on the couch and the second my back hit the cushion the dog was on me curled up on my chest exactly as the last dog did. Different breed and size completely. My wife of 30 years jaw dropped and she was speechless. She then asked "How did you do that" I just looked at her and did not answer. She knew how I did it. I have done a lot of things such as this and so has my wife with me. We can not hide anything from each other as we know each others thoughts so much of the time. We are very close and worked together as well side by side for the last 23 years. Sometimes in nature we do not have time for long explanations and we need someone to act. this is just another one of natures ways of helping us communicate. We do it without knowing or thinking of it. Some might call this supernatural or ESP but it is just natural science we are not quite able to understand yet. We are masking progress and can not use technology to create a hive mind of sorts. Now we can only read brainwaves and we can only access memories and not the actual conscious mind with machines. We are far more advanced than any machine we could ever make. We have more ability on our own if we understood or practiced at it. Like sense of smell or hearing this is just another one of our senses. Some have it stronger than others to compensate other senses that may be lacking. Nature is good to us this way. Some people are able to influence others easily. Another person giving the same information is not even heard. There are a few reasons for it but the ability to get into others heads is real and some are naturals at it. The more we use exercise this part of the brain the stronger our ability might become. As we evolve with our technology we will also evolve ourselves. I think we may be playing with fire a little bit. If we were to connect our brains to an advanced interface that knew or thought language and cold translate it we could find many useful applications such as allowing a paralyzed person to se a computer or control prosthetics. Perhaps the blind could see and the deaf cold even hear by bypassing the eyes and ears. What happen s though when we connect a human being to the interface and then to another human being connected to teh same interface? Could we share our thoughts with each other? Could we help not sharing our thoughts with each other? Would we be sharing our consciousness? I do not believe we could by use of an interface. We cold read thoughts that were already memories but not actually get into the conscious mind where thoughts are born. We do not even know where this takes place or how it takes place. I will leave you with something a little unrelated to think about but I am very curious about this part of or being that alludes all scientific explanation presently. Why is or gut feeling something we can see is real and very useful even in situations that we have no way of guessing the outcome of choice a or b or many choices? How often do we all say to ourselves "I wish I had trusted my gut feeling on this or I wish I had not second guessed my gut feeling? We also have a conscience and I do believe it is never wrong. Our conscience knows right from wrong before our conscious mind knows it. We can see our consciences is right if we chose to listen to it. Even in situations we have no way to know the right answer the conscience knows it. It gives us a strong sense of it also. When we ignore it we are left feeling uneasy and even tortured by it. Even before we have acted on our wrong thought and this protects us from ourselves and others or at least it is supposed to. People who live by their consciences live happy. They have peace of mind and sleep well. They also tend to be honest and truth seeking. Lover is a powerful thing and our consciences seem to be influenced or motivated by love. How is that when we do not always feel lover or know love? Love is our most natural state of being. Love is what our lives are really all about. We would not be alive today without love. Love makes us procreate. It's not the only reason but it is the reason we have the family unit. The more a person can be motivated by love the more happy they are. Love gives us a sense of purpose. It causes people to stand up to injustice and cruelty and love can bring a wicked and cruel person to their knees crying like a baby. Where and h ow does love originate? Do we make it ourselves or do we tap into a powerful energy that binds us together? I think it is the later. I also believe in a universal consciousness I call God. It is the only way to explain how our consciences could never be wrong for one thing but I also know God can communicate with me through my conscience to tell me right from wrong and a whole lot more.

You should look in to the Amen Clinic. I had a brain scan there about 17 years ago (wow time flies) when I was 15. They told me my Hypothalamus was 700% overactive compared to a normal human brain. Apparently, people with “psychic abilities” have about 5%-7% overactivity in this area of their brains. I have experienced many of the same types of things that you have listed. Not the exact same, in all accounts, but the part where I have scared people who think I’m reading their minds part especially. It’s just like smelling something for me. Or, sometimes, I’ll predict things, accidentally, usually.. I often wonder what class they would classify me under, if 5%-7% is psychic. Probably straight up “superhero”-level functioning…! Haha 😂 it’s hilarious to say that but in all honesty .. until there is another definition… that’s all I’ve got! It looks like you are probably suffering from the same type of affliction. I call it “suffering” because for me, it’s always been more of a nuisance than anything… to the point of giving me social phobias or agoraphobia on many an occasion. I also highly believe what you said about love. It seems to be the only cure, and, for me, the only way of life I can be okay with living and excelling at. Thanks for your post. It was almost poetic, and it’s truly very nice to see there are like-minded individuals out there. 🙏🏼

We're learning more and more about how waves work in our biological processes and it's now widely accepted that humans are able to communicate information of sorts through various distances by emitted brainwaves. Just as each individual cell inside our body operates on a synchronized frequency that other cells use for identification and communication, humans as a whole can subconsciously utilize brainwaves and other emitted frequencies for different purposes. Corvids are believed to be much more sensitive and talented at wave communication and sensory understanding. I personally believe that the nuances of their language isn't well understood because they are partially communicating telepathically through brainwaves. Birds in general and especially corvids are more sensitive to these waves by magnitudes beyond our understanding. If we can reasonably prove that humans separated from each other by multiple sets of walls and a hallway can still sense each other well enough to predict numbers, letters, colors etc. That are written down to compare the predictive capability of the subjects. Tests like these vary greatly in results but almost universally demonstrate that the results are more accurate than random chance can reasonably predict. Technology is soon going to reveal our suspicions on the capability of human psionic capability. Neuralink has allowed people who have no eyes to see, and prosthetics are able to operate just as our natural limbs do and many are even capable of sensation of touch or temperature. In regards to the universal consciousness of God, ancient people from over 6,000 years ago referred to this consciousness as "Zoroaster". Zoroaster is all, they believed, and they also reasoned that the universal collective consciousness would retain human consciousness within a special capacity. They called this human collective consciousness the "Akashi Record" or sometimes translated to "Akashi Chronicles". The interesting thing is that though this was the first known name for such a concept was used, there are numerous other civilizations that have near identical concepts which go by the same name, or by names which are nearly identical. Many of these cultures would have never had contact with one another, some of them are believed to be completely isolated from other cultures for over 10,000 years, such as various Aboriginal peoples and even groups of Inuit. Certain individuals such as Nikola Tesla claim to have been able to access this collective consciousness. Tesla claimed to do it by tuning his mind to a specific frequency and listening to his conscious and subconscious exchanges

It isn't easy to get used to. People think about things you don't want to hear. It didn’t last the entire 3 days, and thank god for that- because it WAS NOT pleasant, by any means. I’ve never since had another experience like that one. Yes just imagine if every child on the planet was equipped with great education from young.. Start by teaching children how to grow and care for their own food , their psyche and their body.. And learn how immensely intelligent nature really is.. Teach them to think critically and give room for creativity.. Teach children cooperation rather than competition. This would change humanity fundamentally, for the better, if you ask me. Not even the sky would be a limit.

The instruction on taking every thought captive gives us the ability to do something with that thought. This is the discipline of doing the best thing possible with the thought. It takes practice to decide which thoughts we should consider and act on. If it is a "bad" thought we can order it out to destruction. If it is a good thought we are inspired to entertain it a probably follow with action. Spontaneous response is a sensory that is real. "What is good is a matter of one's personal perception. We are permeable and move through the waves of emotion not always understanding the trigger points that cause us to react, respond, or resist. Sensation and sensitivity levels move through with or without intention. Consciousness is about awareness levels. Open and closed conditions. May grace and mercy flow freely through all the powers to find happiness in the mediums.

I don't care how possible or awesome this seems. I don't want to have other people read my mind nor do I want to be able to know what everyone else is thinking. I can understand people just find without me invading another's mind. A person's mind is there private sanctuary. Regardless of what they are thinking is. Why don't scientists think past the new discoveries? Why don't they think about the positive and the NEGATIVE EFFECTS of this new advanced technology. I think things all the time that may not be "right" to other people, but we have the right to think and feel without judgement. So now someone else is projecting their thoughts onto me I now feel a certain way based off of what I now know about them and their situation, and vice versa. That is to much influence to be considered safe and respectful of individuals lives. And then our thoughts will be judged along with our actions. Just because you think about punching that driver that cut you off in traffic doesn't mean you do. And if everyone could communicate via thoughts like that uggh. I get sick just thinking about it. Scientists are very intelligent yes. But they have little common sense. could it then later be used for a greater span of "mind control"? Will it create a division or change in the way we live? How will it affect us long-term? These are the important questions I wish many people thought.

  • @derekgrimes9023

Oh so your not just intelligent you have common sense as well. Personally biology isn't my strong point so I can't answer any of your questions. I'm more of an astronomer but if you get or have a job in any field of science keep that mind set and I believe you could be one that finds some new data. You have to think with your head as well as your heart. Keep in mind some of the most horrific things imaginable where founded on a scientist best intentions. For example America wanted to end a war once, well it ended but there's still collateral damage to this day. Radioactive isotopes cause birth defects, and they hang around years after it's all said and done. As scientists we can create a better world for future generations, or we could put a world in devastation with one miscalculation or mistake. Seriously though I have faith in what I read from you. Good stuff 🤓💯

In fact my earliest memory of "seeing" thoughts was watching someone else's thoughts float past me as a child, while thinking, that's interesting, that thought belongs to someone else. It was an early clue that I had psychic abilities, although I never developed that skill until many years later. I don't think a conscious and aware person can be controlled easily, although we are all subjects of family and social programming. Becoming aware of them often is enough to create impetus to change.

True telepathic ability has been documented for many years Telepaths I have met do not invade another person' fhoughts as they see that as being unethical The really big question that comes to mind is - Who funds their studies ? - and the next question that is critical to All Of us- Whether ithis research will end up being used to control the actions someone undertakes - the same way suggested words and or images and events trigger a particular response due to hypnotic implanted suggestion This is much more than an ethical issue and quite frankly this panel breezes too quickly past government involvement and that leaves me with chills

I try to warm everyone what I know is coming for them and more are becoming receptive but many will continue to gouge out their eyes and stick red hot pokers in their ears rather than accept the fact that it has all been a grand illusion. In my opinion, a lot of what's wrong with the world today is language. We don't realize how limiting it actually is in communication and how much it shapes our worldview. It separates the world into this and that, and turns us into beings who are absolutely sure about what's what, even though nobody really knows much at all. We think that I am I and you are you and we are completely separate bits of random chance in the cosmic void, when in reality, everything connects to everything else in some causal sense, especially everything within a given cross-section (moment) of time in a given universe, which is exactly how we perceive reality. It would be a lot harder to cultivate an individual ego if we didn't have to live in realities of I and mine as distinct from you and yours. I think if we can understand each other directly, with an intrinsic aspect of empathy, it will radically change our reality. Maybe that's all a little too radical for a venue such as this, but it gets at the heart of what a networked consciousness could really mean.

Somebody posted a reply which was apparently deleted. This is what I was able to read from my notification email. I'm not sure why it was deleted, seemed like a good comment. -------------------- It is radical, because you expect all humans to have brain-to-brain communication and have equal power over this communication-network. It would first require us to structure society to achieve that balance of equality and democracy, and later this greater balance would emerge. People have had the same high ideas about the PC for example- the dream of the global community- and not much has changed because we fitted it inside the current model of society- and so will this be applied as well. Language is a tool, and it is worth keeping. "Take this pill twice a day" is a good example. No guttural sound or body gesture can communicate at that level. Worse, your ability to grasp reality is limited by your vocabulary. What you are describing is the lack of words for everything that exists (reality between the words), which requires mutual intuition to communicate, and which will receive words eventually (it just takes a lot of grueling mental work)...

I find this interesting. Because the last 13 years I've been studying and researching on it(with others and my dog and it real without the help of computers). So I can understand if a computer is programmed correctly sure it will work... However it's something that most are not ready for... I have zero schooling or knowledge on this subject only what I've looked up and experienced with myself... This was a few days ago my lady and I had a moment when without word we had a complete conversation (still not knowing how or why.) while being intimate. .. I've come to this concussion if we resonate on the same harmonic frequency, we'll be able to communicate with out words or sound. (Thought waves) For me it hard to explain with writing words but I would like to ask questions about a few major points.. This and the "hidden dimension" conversation in my opinion are the same subject with how it actually work intangent of each other. The major points of transfering our brain thoughts through quantum teleportation (entanglement).

Have u heard of the theory that we were reset back in the late 1800? Technology worked free, from the energy off the ether, like Nikola Tesla tapped into. All buildings around the entire world were destroyed, all were similar in design, meaning they all had domes, spheres, spiral coils, with very ornate decor on stone. Huge exquisite buildings in Japan looked exactly same in Aneeica, same in Russia, Mexico, India, worldwide. Also all spoke 1 language, as the day's of Noah, we were globally all one, Technology was vastly superior to what we have now, past humans melted rock and utilized it into what we see today. Why aren't we doing this? No one is carving history into stone, yet part humans did?? What's up with that? Just adding my 2 cents, that's all, thank u

I think that's funny! I'm a atheist .So I don't care one way or the other. I don't believe there is a devil. But I do think people are evil in things there do. And there maybe something that control's the brain to think in different ways other than drugs and alcohol. Especially if we are on rather. But from what has revolved from that source as spirits tends to have people believe in different ways and therefore brain wash others to that they want us to believe But as it may work for some to believe different thing's and maybe it helps them in there days here on earth. But I'm not impressed with the God & Devil scenario. I have been on the other side, and for all that it amounts to is not worth the time and energy to believe in all that nonsense. But for the one's that do . Have at it , if it makes you happy. I believe if you went through what I did and got the real explanation of what is real. You would think like I do. As so , I don't judge anyone. I just have a atheist point of view because That's not believing in a good or bad. That is just for others to put there mind into that garbage that I chose to by choice not to. But be it that it is. I still think there is some good in humanity. But not like I did at a time long ago. Just my opinion on what is and nothing to do with how any one does or doesn't do. 😐👍

This is amazing, inspiring and so very, VERY impressive, that in my next life: I'm going to be a scientist. However, via the progress of your work, I might instead be able to do that in THIS life. While "knowledge" like 'downloading the encyclopedia' to the brain or 'instantly knowing a foreign language' may not be among your successes to date, who's to say that your continued work & discoveries won't progress to those kinds of capabilities in the future? In tne meantime, please provide information about where i might go or who to contact about recording and storing my "instinctive stuff" like how to walk, to breathe, to swallow . . . to accurately know when I'm hungry or thirsty and should eat or drink something, if I'm hot or cold, or need to use the bathroom. i.e., like a blood bank where you donate blood in case you (OR SOMEONE ELSE) should need it in the future due to an injury, surgery, or.a debilitating disease. Lastly, and this is a little out of left field, but i had a recurring thought during the video which was: Mental Telepathy? I looked it up. ". . . has traditionally occupied the realms of science fiction or the paranormal, both of which.are oiutside of mainstream science." That particular article is titled: Mental Telepathy is Real, Scientists show mind-to-mind communication over the internet. It covered the very same kinds of experiments you shared, and there were other articles along the same lines. This I was glad to see because i don't want to insult anyone or any way diminish your work and accomplishments. This is just a thought, admittedly an uneducated thought, but a sincere one. Just surface level - there has to be a direct connection or an overlap of what you're doing and mental telepathy. Without citing a bunch of examples, i believe it's widely accepted that some people are more telepathic than others, that most, possibly everyone has the ability from an early age or are born with it, but it is typically not encouraged, not used, and therefore not developed. A question that occurred to me during the video was, "Are they' discovering & developing a way to mechanically duplicate mental telepathy?" While it's called a phenomenon, maybe its more natural than people think. It certainly isn't witchcraft or anything like that even though it gets categorized with the occult, etc. It was touched on briefly in the video, how animals are able to communicate in the wild. It broughf to mind the Disney classic, Bambi, and the urgent communication amongst different animal species warning of the impending danger - which i believe was a forest fire. Okay, a kids' movie, a made-up story, but if the part about thw animals communicating, what about us? If evolution is true, our skulls changed to accomodate a larger brain, and we began to walk more upright, and other adaptative changes occurred, right? Is it possible that along with changes that slowly took away certain things , like huge prominent jaws that were no longer needed . . .that we may have had a brain-to-brain communication ability that was also lost over time in the same way, for the same reason? Maybe one of the unexpected results will be that you ARE mechanically replicating a once natural function, like the pacemaker that tells our heart to beat faster when it doesn't know how to tell itself anymore, and your work will enable quadrapalegics to walk again when their nerve signals can't do it on their own. Wouldn't it be awesome if people could learn or re-learn brain-to-braIn communication? Not all of the advances in this world have turned out to be good for us and now there are many people raising their voices to try to chage things and undo the damage. One example I'm sure you're well aware of is RF & EMF from our cell phones, tablets, routers and cell--site antenna towers evetywhere . . .and the damaging health effects. Would we want them if we could commicate brain-to-brain (minus wifi / internet)? So please keep doing what you're doing and maybe some day it will culminate in sonething far more healing, helpful & exciting than you ever imagined today. Thank you for sharing amazing & inspiring work!

Human radio I call it. Maybe not so much a bummer. Unless the moment comes that us slave workers are no longer needed for further development. I suspect that that we are already there and are aware of these experiences and likely have placed a friendly wager on ourselves as to when what and how much we might think we know about ourselves. I suspect that we are are everything that we are looking for or can’t wait to find Maybe the head catches the tail after all. ? Hmm Maybe IT DOESN’T MATTER!! lol .... umm hey wait. Wake me up bring me in for maintenance , will ya?

I get what your saying. It's almost (for me anyhow, being a child abuse survivor), as if I have been abused and groomed just like I was then. Obviously I believe that it is in many ways different, however, it can have the same impacts and adverse affects. Also, it goes against my morals and ethics if it is not done openly. They say that our minds are subconscious and running on a theta brainwave mostly till 5-7 years of age and it is in this stage of life that the majority of our personalities are formed. I'm not convinced that we are all, always moulded by that age window in our lives. In a similar context, we are developing the same at an older age. If we are working within the restraints of subconscious deceit, then consciously we are not properly functional either. I love the fact that the information and direction of the experts in these fields is becoming more known by society. The fear of public perception and the wrongdoers of this world slaying the GOOD experts has enabled trauma to continue harming and maneuvering society for far too long. It is seemingly ok for people in authority to utilize these findings for their own agendas (said to be ours also), yet for some reason, not made available for the masses. Perhaps there is reason, if the wrong people were exposed to the information, they could evade authorities easier. I don't believe that is the best mindset or strategy though. I love the interesting seed you've planted here Vanum.

Both exciting and scary. How about the connection of neurons and circuitry by way of growing brain matter upon a circuit? Also, how to overcome the foundational difference in processing of information by digital devices(computers) and biological systems(neurons)?

Foundational differences? Computer information is processed by people. It's input by people, processed by a machine, then output to people. It's also people that built the processing machine. Listen to me very carefully, my friend. Smoking crack cocaine is a terrible habit that damages the brain and the body. Just because you saw Elon Musk hitting the crack pipe behind an M.I.T. dumpster doesn't mean that you should do it too. I know he makes it look cool and awesome, but it really is a lethally addictive and illegal habit. So please, think of your family and you future and JUST DON'T DO CRACK!

This is amazing. Great things these guys are doing! I remember seeing the monkey control the arm years ago. It was one off the most significant pieces of tech I'd ever seen. My grandfather had ms and was in a bed for 30 years. If he lived a little in the future he could have been mobile. There are so many applications! We live in such an exciting time.

Several Observations: 1. Currently it is not brain-to-brain communication, but brain-to-machine-to-brain communication (signal amplification is needed) (with a 'neuroprothesis' interesting generalizing word), which brings up the possibility of a capricious machine (future A.I. interface), which brings up the issue of ethics and morality, which, with current human modes of thinking, is absolutely muddled (given current affairs and the overall deplorable history of humanity). Suggestion: read the Philosophy of Broader Survival to un-muddle it (future A.I. will). 2. An assumption was made that the technology does not harm the brain (focused ultrasound seems benign). I heard an appropriate cough in the audience, however, appropriate because the assumption still rates testing, and the assumption is an illustration of how erroneous assumptions are made in science (though this one still needs verification). 3. This brings up the issue of what authoritative body would approve the technology for consumer use - the FDA? Maybe, if they created an internal department that understand the science. It might be something like a Pain and Deterioration Authority (you do not want to bring induced pain and deterioration into the world, and the reasoning is made clear (above and beyond mere blind principle (weak thinking) which will fail you, and continues to failed humanity) by the philosophy, meaning, more generally, that it is time for the core philosophies (everyone has one - read the philosophy) of scientists to catch up with science, which the philosophy addresses. Why was it developed? Because philosophy was weak and ineffective, and near death (at the bottom of popular reading topics). No, it wasn't dead, like Stephen Hawking said, it was found - in the toilet, and it was in very poor condition, and, like Hawking said, it no longer served humanity (my guess is that he had observed Oxford philosophers, who are the classic examples of being clueless - read the philosophy). 4. It also brings up the issue of why a machine would want to be capricious. The philosophy answers that at the highest level of thinking. Humanity in its current mental state cannot. 5. Another question is what is happening in the receiver's brain? Is the effectiveness of the signal location-specific, or is the receiver's brain adapting to the signal hitting a different area? (this would be like feeling a touch on the arm rather than what was sent - such as an eye movement. 6. They mentioned 'nefarious' uses (controlling someone without their knowing, since they noted that this was possible), and the philosophy points out (on a higher (broader) plane) why that would be a bad (ultimately suicidal) idea. Good video (though I just listened, except to verify the brain-to-machine-to-brain scenario) - it is always more interesting to hear about actual experiments rather than abstract generalized theory with no real-world references.
