We appreciate your honesty :). Movies are expensive to see these days, so I’d rather know whether or not they’re worth my limited funds.

As one who is 75 years old, I have only so many years left of movie watching. I greatly appreciate a detailed, thoughtful negative review of a film. I won't be wasting precious time watching it. As for the importance of tension, mood and atmosphere, particularly in a ghost story, I agree totally. The most frightening movie of the supernatural I ever saw was the Robert Wise version of, 'The Haunting.' When the wife shows up, the mood is killed and the film limps to its' conclusion.

For me, the best horror reviewer is someone who hates giving bad reviews and likes to find the positive, but also refuses to be dishonest in the review. There are studios making amazing horror right now, we don't have to support lazy horror just for the sake of it. Thank you!

Thanks for the review, Emma, and please don't feel bad about giving a film a low rating. We all have our own tastes even in horror, and your opinion always holds some weight with me when it comes to deciding to put a film on my watchlist. Also, I know that the Paranormal Activity franchise gets a lot of fans arguing, but there is no doubt in my mind that the first "Paranormal Activity" scared me in theaters as much as "The Blair Witch Project" did 10 years earlier. It is a visceral experience and made all the scarier with the reveal that it is not a ghost haunting a house, but a demon haunting a person.

I love found footage films it's possibly my favorite subgenre of horror. It's a shame it's not good I had high hopes for this one. Sorry you're sick , I hope you feel better soon.

Ah such a shame, I will be checking it out on stream regardless because I was/am very curious about this. But I totally agree, I expected it to be found footage only. Would have been cool if they included a 'house tour' with the camera handheld, things like that. But I guess they skipped out on that

Nice and fair. I'll stream it, even if just for the actress. Found footage seems to be making a comeback in terms of demand and retro reviews out. I think my FF and partial FF faves are BWP, Poughkeepsie Tapes, Ring, Videodrome, and Sex, Lies and Videotape. And The Sacrament was pretty good too.

It was the same problem with ”Late Night With Devil”. It was really great for one hour+, then came the ending witch ruined the illusion of being found footage/documentary.

Watching the piers morgan interview with "Martha" and saw your face pop up on the intro! I spat coffee and joyfully squeeled lol

Fun fact: the film Hostel (2005) originally was originally supposed to be a documentary investigating the urban legend of red rooms but I think executives got scared

The only three 'found footage' movies that I found didn't have to suspend disbelief were 'Blair Witch', 'Paranormal Activity' and 'The Borderlands (a.k.a Final Prayer). The reasons for the film itself being filmed is believable and holds up for most of the film. The rest have the problem of this movie.

No, im a rotten tomatoes critic. It takes a few days for reviews to be entered in the system. So usually the first reviews on some platforms are from people who worked on the film

Too bad they didn't go all in to make it more immersive. This one sounded promising. Oh and I found Paranormal Activity absolutely terrifying.

Paranormal Activity and Blair Witch embody the perfect found footage format and I will die on that hill defending those movies lol

I just finished this movie... I watch a lot of horror movies also play horror games. I enjoyed this movie for what it was. 6/10

For me late night with the devil didn’t have intense tonal shifts, I didn’t really think of it as found footage

Too bad..... I kinda dig these horror movies that use social media and the like. I like the concept. But it is a bit rare to finde a really good one, sadly.

Such a divisive film. I loved it and found it to be 90 mins of non-stop dread. Not sure it's considered found footage as there's no camera person but its so unique in its portrayal of a child-like nightmare that it deserves merit on that basis alone.

What a waste From the title I thought this was going to be a movie about a cult , you would be surprised how many cult leaders started in the Yoga subculture . Off the top of my head the leader of Aum Shinrikio in Japan started as a yoga guy . His cult tried to jumpstart the apocalypse with a SARIN GAS attack in the Tokyo subway . It took forever for him to be put to death ( because it was Japan )

IKR! The Sacrament, where typical Vice reporters are flown out to investigate a a modern-day Jonestown, is a good example of a cult found footage movie. Narcissistic leaders love being recorded.
