Stunning find! Still....you are left to wonder what might still be down there very deep. To hold something another person crafted and used 3,500 years ago...mind boggling!

hello greg, after finding the axe the archaeologists pulled out all the stops to find the possible grave with all the missing grave goods. they even opened two unplanned test pits to find it. the geological features of the site spoke for a landslide at some point in history. either the axe came from a grave that was situated out of reach or it is a random loss. anyway, the axe speaks for itself and that's fantastic enough. I'm very honored and I don't take it for granted to be able to hold a piece of history like that in my hands. it's a magical, electrostatic feeling! thank you for watching my friend :)

You are an asset to archaeology and the metal detecting community. Here in England metal detecting is getting alot of bad press due to the few who break the law. But archaeologists and land owners let this video and amazing find be a reason to give the genuine metal detectorists the credit they deserve, and please allow us more opportunity to detect along side you or on your land. Thankyou.

thank you for watching and for your kind words. it is part of my intention to show that detectorists and archaeologists can work together and that it can be beneficial for both sides. we also face the problem in germany that our reputation suffers because of the law violators.

Oh man, you found my tool! I was working there for a few months back in 1471 BC, and it apparently fell out of the sheep's skin holster I had it in. I thought I'd never see that thing again! In 548 BC, I FINALLY replaced it with a new one made of the exotic new substance known as "iron".

Amazing find, Hans, you must have felt strong emotions when it came to light. Although such ancient artifacts are impossible to find with metal detectors here in Australia, it brought to mind a chance discovery by an acquaintance here in Oz. A teacher I knew became lost after his car broke down in the outback and he took shelter in a small cave, only to find an exquisite stone axe head lying right next to him. He obviously survived and was allowed to keep the artifact. I can't remember if it was dated, but being Oz, it could be in the thousands, perhaps tens of thousands of years (there was no trace of a haft, even though it was a dry desert setting)...I have often wondered how it came to be there.
What an epic find, you see perseverance does payoff.
