As much as you’re right fro the most part, there is one key difference. The characters in MHA are fictional, and, therefore, the audience isn’t hurting them. Mineta, through his pervertedness, is actively hurting (or at least annoying the sh!t out of) the people who are real to him. Basically, both cases are the exact level of perversion, but whether the fandom is as bad as Mineta or not depends on whether you take this factor into account. I doubt many of the people thirsting over the MHA cast actually treat real-life people that way. I know I don’t.

Not even. Apparently it's an acceptable cure for being "not how someone else wants you to be." I'm not really sure how to feel about the fans being okay with that, it's borderline 3rd Reich caliber. Is it a cartoon character in a completely made up scenario? Yes. So why was it so important that they change the character in the first place? it's all made up so none of it really mattered. So why did it matter before? Classic, "it's only okay if it aligns with my views" rearing it's head.
