Milwaukee Fastback 6in1..The Knife I want but it doesn’t work....

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Milwaukee Fastback is arguably the best carpenters knife made. This 6 in 1 has a issue though and why I’m returning it. Knife no 48-22-1505

This is a tool that works perfectly, I've used mine for over a year.. It is of the highest quality as far as construction is concerned. All functions work 100 percent. Imagine the time an engineering and manufacturing team went through to create an amazing tool only to have some one like this crap on the perfect tool you created. Buy it, you won't be sorry.

I love that knife. Carry one all the time and it is amazing how often I pull it out even when not working. A tip I have about that bit. Grind the corners off the straight screwdriver bit. It seems to be to wide and can catch on the retaining ring and screw it up and then it won't hold the bit in anymore. Take the corners off and it won't happen.

I carry the newer model everyday, next to my Leatherman Wave+ on my belt. This extends the blade life on my multi tool by tons. Cutting boxes, drywall and such, as you stated no cutting device in reach. The bit in the driver is respectfully tight. It does free up. Try some graphite or lube . I appreciate the input. It’s a great tool. Don’t dismiss it.

That's the only one they make out of plastic. Find a new old stock dealer and get yourself a 1901. Three of mine are 1901s (and after clicking play, I see you have one...so you know what I am talking about). Worst case, if you actually like the new design...grab a 1502. Why, I Man Up every day to do my line of work. I shouldn’t have to fight with a bit. LOL

"Man up" to use a screwdriver? We shouldn't have to use a pair of pliers to pull out or reverse the bits (otherwise we might as well just carry our Leathermans). I really want to like this product and I would gladly have paid more money to have it use bits with a detent. I think a magnet will work though. I hope so because it's great idea. I was planning to carry a 1/4 inch driver extention for more reach, a variety of bits, my Knipex pliers, and a small adjustable wrench because I don't love multitools because you can only access and use one tool at a time.

Read the comments after watching to see how many others have had an issue. Seems to be a frequent enough issue. I suggest based on other commenters that had said they had lost the bit that you order some replacements that don't have the ring notch in the bit. If the collet ring is that tight it should hold the bit quite well still even without the notch. Then after time if it starts to get lose enough to where the replacement bit without the ring notch starts having retention problems you can switch back to the original bit with the notch. I've always disliked the collet ring design for bit holders because it always seems the manufacturing tolerances for those rings aren't great and you often get ones where it's almost impossible to remove a notched bit. Lots of Dewalt bit holders have this issue. If the bit holder is also magnetic I will often just pry the ring out of the bit holder and rely on the magnet for retention. But in this case if there's not a magnet in the bitholder as well then using unnotched bits often works quite well.

  • @campbellbuilt
