In this weeks episode Alex and I compare the Milwaukee 1/2" Mid Torque impact wrench against its big brother the High Torque 1/2" impact wrench. Both guns are amazing tools and it all depends on what type of work your looking to use it in. Let us know in the comments what you think!

The right tool for the right job creates less stress is my mantra. A recent encounter with rusted on mower blades, and shearing of the heads of those bolts, sent me on a quest, after seeing the problem solved using a rechargeable impact wrench. I am really glad I saw your video. What a big help. I was trying to sort out what would be the best tool to purchase for myself. You guys lead me down the right path. Milwaukee should pay you guys, or at least sponsor you for a great representation of their product. Thanks to you I will be buying the Medium Torque Milwaukee. Thank you.

If you use the high torque for the caliper bolts on any setting above 1 you are going to break something. Torque specs on them are usually less than or about the same as a lugnut. The mid torque is going to take care of 90% of anything you encounter, with less fatigue because its simply lighter and more enjoyable to use. If you are in the salt belt you might need to have the high torque for those stubborn bolts. I’d say get both, use mid as a daily and when necessary pull out the big guns. That’s just my 2 cents.

I have had 1 instance where my high torque couldn't take of a lug nut. Someone over torqued the piss out of them. I had to get out the 4ft 3/4" breaker bar with a 3ft cheater!! Used all my weight and bending the breaker bar. I don't understand how the lug stud didn't snap.

FYI... I've seen many people grab a torque wrench by the end of the handle. Unless the torque wrench was designed to be grasped in such a manner (such as the excellent Brown & Sharpe in-lb series that have a nice ball end), you will apply less torque than intended (sounds counter-intuitive until you work out the force diagram). The portion of the handle that should be grasped is always clearly marked by two lines. Why is this you may ask... Most torque wrenches gauge the applied torque not at the center of the (square drive) head but at an inches or two up the handle. That torque reading is then scaled according to where the manufacturer expects the handle to be grasped. Dial torque wrenches are a different animal... They measure torque precisely at the center of the head, hence are insensitive to where they are grasped on the handle.

Stubby is nice but you can’t count on not having to go grab something stronger doing tires. I’m a bit disappointed in mine as often on lugs or brake brackets I have to get my air gun. Wish I went with the mid torque.

5.0 I believe. I now use a mid torque as My main cordless now and am Much happier with it. Sometimes still Need to grab the air Matco😄. But usually it does the trick.
