Millyard Racing down hill mountain bike MR002, How its made

Спорт

In this video i talk about the MR002 down hill mountain bike, a bit of its history and how parts of it were made. We then test ride the MR002 at the 'Pedal a bike away bike" park in the Forrest of Dean, check out stephen_millyard on instagram. I will be making a separate video soon on the HyperRide2 shock and forks, what its like to ride, including rider testimonials and telemetry data.

Maybe true about the parts and after market profits. It seems like if one company actually cracked a lightweight internal gearbox with a shaft drive or cased chain for a good enough price then it would take off and everyone would make them. It is similar to the issues Mike Burrows ( of lotus bike fame) had, he kept innovating and the UCI banned all his ideas.

Looks like he's using a modified Shimano Alfine hub on the bikes (Alfine 8 originally and 11 on the update). You should be able to figure out how this is done with a bit of googling. There was at least one bike produced with a similar system. The tricky part is getting the drive off the hub. Usually you secure the axle and the hub shell would be your drive but I don't see why you couldn't secure the hub shell and use the axle to drive a sprocket though rotation would be reversed I think.

Exactly, he took a internal gear hub. If you put one of those hubs in a vice and spin the hubshell, the output on the sprocket will be more than that. So whatever he did with the hub, it works perfect as internal gearing without it being 'a hub' anymore. I'm just not completely sold on the shifting under power argument. I've definitely seen ig hubs have a hard time when you do that. But you can definitely mod the internals for it to 'act' more competitive. I wish i had any metals fabrication experience. This seems like it's done in such a simplistic manner yet the results are craaazy!

Your work is a profound piece of history... Recently graduated from University (BSME) and your proficiency DRIVES ME. Prototype DH rigs for riders as skilled and practiced as your son Steven, Bernard Kerr, etc... I'm even more blown away that you will be releasing your data acquisition. Your bikes aren't given NEARLY the attention they've rightfully earned. For any of us that have aggressively pushed sprockets and groupsets, the zero slip and backlash of your geartrain is pure dreams! Obviously, you have worked very hard to make your prototypes not only incredibly competitive and reliable-but also serviceable. I'm utterly stunned.

Brilliant job on that bike Allen! I've never undetstood why bike tech development has remained so stagnant over a long period of time! Essentially my current mountain bike uses virtually the same tech and design as my Raleigh racing bike from way back in the late 1970s! Same rubber rim brakes, same derailleur gears !!! Fully enclosed gearing system should be the norm now!! 😎👍

What would also be nice is if it could be made so that when its free running like downhill it puts some charge into the batteries like an alternator on a car and also have pedals so when the battery is low you can just pedal and charge it. im not sure on the practicalities or engineering of this sort of thing though it may not be feasible
