Have you heard anything about this? also I don’t think I have to worry about fluoride and arsenic in my well water? So I might skip that and just go w RO? I got lost in a corn field when I was 13. Ended up in a big cow pasture still lost. followed the fence line for what felt like miles. I was so thirsty I drank muddy water from a hoof print. Found the cows water about 30 minutes later and drank that. Guess I was lucky I didn't get sick lol. Best water I ever drank.

Growing up, our family fished, hunted, and grew our own food to supplement our food bill. Needless to say, we spent a lot of time outside, in the forests and mountains. My dad taught me how to procure water, filter it, and, sanitize the water. Filter was pebbles, sand, and dried grass. To sanitize it, simply boil it. I'm in my late 60s and I have used this method all my life and never have I or anyone else gotten sick. My father taught me bushcraft at a very early age. As a kid, I always thought it was just plain fun. But looking back on it, he was preparing me for hard times. Thanks Dad. I miss ya...

I have had a Berkey for years and love it. We just lived through hurricane Ian here in Florida and was so glad we had our Berkey. I have something to add. When I was in Iraq there was a scientist I had befriended, he worked for KBR. We were at Camp Warrior Kurkuk. He sent off samples of plastic, and water samples. These water bottles were loaded onto pallets and exposed to the sun all day, every day, untill consumed. The labs came back stating the plastic that made up the disposable water bottles were leaching into the water. The plastic was like a 20 letter word. It proved the water we consumed either civilian contractors, military personnel were puting this plastic in our bodies. He went to the camp manager of the base. They fired him, and sent him back to the states. So drinking from disposable water bottles is not healthy what so ever! The reverse osmosis water puryification is the best, but you need 40 lbs of water pressure for it work. It goes thru either five to seven pre filters with the reverse osmosis membrane being the last filter. You forgot one free method of drinking water. When it rains from the sky, if you inspect that water with a TDS meter, total total desolved solids. You will learn it will read 0. If you test a glass of tap water depending your location and water company, you will get 350-550 ppm, parts per million. Soif you have a food grade five gallion plastic bucket with a large funnel. You can collect water from a heavy rain fall, and have clean drinking water. Also in a survival mode, your tank to your comode, you can drink and cook with this water. As long as you do not have the toilet bowel blue tablet in there! A good reverse water filter system you can find on line at aquarium stores. They can provide 200-300 gallions every 24 hrs. For about $350-450. The filters will last about one year. One method to test your water for clarity, get a ice tray, fill with your tap water, put in freezer. Once frozen hard inspect the ice cube, it will be white. Do the same with a reverse osmosis water filter. The ice cube will be mostly clear! I love you my brother, I am the same marine that commented on your water well!

There are apparently a few plastics that do not leach into water or food, even when they are heated. Leaving pallets of water in the sun for days on end is pure negligence. It encourages the growth of algae and any bacteria in the water, as well is increasing any leaching problem.

Reverse osmosis will purify water, but you really should put minerals back in after the process. You should be getting minerals from water. If not when you drink that water with little to no minerals then your body will lose minerals to that water as it equalizes and then you'll pee out more minerals than you take in. It's the same reason you shouldn't drink distilled water.

  • @MissionaryForMexico

    @MissionaryForMexico

@@JohnsonJLB distilled water is dead water, use that for your vehicle radiator and heating iron. Reverse osmosis water will remove the minerals, but you get minerals from fresh produce and fresh fruits. Fluoride and other chemicals in your tap water will be removed. A proper operating system will get your water down to 0 ppm. I have also noticed you no longer can smell the chlorine in your tap water after going thru reverse osmosis!

Let it drip to bucket and use it for cooking. Note, you can build another ceramic container as the items listed and filter the water the 2nd time to get purified water.

Hello ! May Allah protect and guide you to his light and happiness in this life and the hereafter, God bless, Ameen. Excuse me for giving a little presentation of Islam, because it is very misunderstood nowadays, especially on those « Antichrist's » times, where media and politics are mixed to distort history and truth. And terrorists (puppets of the Antichrist) who misinterpret verses, out of ignorance and political motivations, and take them out of historical context (just like radical atheists do by the way), don't help either. Thank you very much for your time. Islam is an arabic word that means the Surrender to the One and Only God, our Creator, Protector, Provider, who gives us life and all that we have, we are safe and sound by his will and grace, we are His and to Him we return, and we have to thank him in this trial life by submitting to him by our free will, or later in the Day of judgment when it's too late to save our own skin. Islam was the original Religion descended to earth from heaven with Adam and Eve (peace and blessing be upon them) in the beginning of humanity. and was passed to people with the succession of the 124 000 prophets and 315 messengers of God to all nations and civilizations since, passing by Noah, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Ismaël, Joseph, Moses, Aaron, Joshua, David, Solomon and Jesus (Peace and blessing be upon them) during the history of mankind, the last replaces and completes the previous, until the succession of the last messenger of God fourteen centuries ago, Muhammad (Peace and blessing be upon him) to complete the noble morals of all mankind, to bring humans and jinns out of darkness into light, and to purify people's religion and belief from corruption and polytheism, and return it to purity and true monotheism, like it was in the times of the prophets (Peace and blessing be upon them)… Many Religions that we know nowadays, at their beginning were true and under Islam, initiated by one of the prophets of God, but their original teachings, history and scriptures have been corrupted over time with falsification and polytheism, or lost and replaced with false ones. That's why Islam is the only Religion accepted by God nowadays, which consists in bearing witness that there is no god besides Allah (God in Aramaic, the original language of Jesus and the Gospel), and that Muhammad is His servant and messenger, just like Jesus and Moses and others are His servants and messengers. Never a messenger of God said he was God or literally son of God, it was the people after him who changed the words of God and corrupted the Religion. God is unique and absolute, He does not need to have a family and sons or to associate anyone else with His kingdom, He can simply create whatever He wants, everything belongs to Him, and to Him everything will return. Allah said in Surah Al-Mu’minun : “God has never begotten a son, nor is there any god besides Him. Otherwise, each god would have taken away what it has created, and some of them would have gained supremacy over others. Glory be to God, far beyond what they describe. The Knower of the hidden and the manifest. He is exalted, far above what they associate. (91-92 / Translated by ITANI). Allah means the one and only God, the God of all prophets and creatures, the creator of the universe and mankind, and the Master of the Day of judgment, where our destiny, Hell or Paradise, is decided based on our faith and deeds in this trial life, and above all, Allah's mercy. Allah said in Surah Al-Ikhlas : In the name of God, the Gracious, the Merciful. Say, “He is God, the One. God, the Absolute. He begets not, nor was He begotten. And there is none comparable to Him.” (1-4 / Translated by ITANI). Allah said in Surah An-Nisa : O FOLLOWERS of the Gospel! Do not overstep the bounds [of truth] in your religious beliefs, and do not say of God anything but the truth. The Christ Jesus, son of Mary, was but God's Apostle - [the fulfilment of] His promise which He had conveyed unto Mary - and a soul created by Him. Believe, then, in God and His apostles, and do not say, "[God is] a trinity". Desist [from this assertion] for your own good. God is but One God; utterly remote is He, in His glory, from having a son: unto Him belongs all that is in the heavens and all that is on earth; and none is as worthy of trust as God. Never did the Christ feel too proud to be God's servant, nor do the angels who are near unto Him. And those who feel too proud to serve Him and glory in their arrogance [should know that on Judgment Day] He will gather them all unto Himself: (171-172 / Translated by Muhammad Asad). Allah the Most Merciful said in Surah Ali-Imran : Behold, the only [true] religion in the sight of God is [man's] self-surrender unto Him; and those who were vouchsafed revelation aforetime took, out of mutual jealousy, to divergent views [on this point] only after knowledge [thereof] had come unto them. But as for him who denies the truth of God's messages - behold, God is swift in reckoning! Thus, [O Prophet,] if they argue with thee, say, "I have surrendered my whole being unto God, and [so have] all who follow me!" - and ask those who have been vouchsafed revelation aforetime, as well as all unlettered people, "Have you [too] surrendered yourselves unto Him?" And if they surrender themselves unto Him, they are on the right path; but if they turn away - behold, thy duty is no more than to deliver the message: for God sees all that is in [the hearts of] His creatures. Verily, as for those who deny the truth of God's messages, and slay the prophets against all right, and slay people who enjoin equity - announce unto them a grievous chastisement. It is they whose works shall come to nought both in this world and in the life to come; and they shall have none to succour them. (19-22 / Translated by Muhammad Asad). Salam (Peace) -

Fun fact: Pressure cook wood (or just you know put wood in a pot solo and heat) you find fallen from your trees in your back yard till black, then crush it into a powder and squirt the blackened remains with a little lemon juice, vinegar or bleach, and reheat it at a high temp...and you wind up with the same stuff those filters are made of. Don't -ever- pay money for something as easily acquired and valuable as activated charcoal. Stuffs good for dealing with poisoning and for making toothpaste too. And if you need water filtration, on the cheap, and by cheap I mean essentially free? Get a barrel, load it with your fancy schmancy activated charcoal at the bottom, then spread play sand on top of it, then small pebbles above that, then small rocks over that, then larger rocks atop that...THEN...drill a hole in the bottom, that drips into, you guessed it, another barrel filled with the same stuff...you then wind up with a filtration system that does the same darned thing. Chemistry and filtration 101...better living through science. Don't ever pay people money for stuff that, quite frankly requires machined parts to spec....makes you dependent on that company for the replacement of filters...which in 'end of times' situations, won't exactly be machining you new parts. Much less shipping them to your location. Best way to survive, is to know how to do the chemistry yourself...especially if you expect there to be no society left, to help you. Or...you know in generalized emergency situations.

Not all UV is created equally. UV-B and UV-C are what you need for sterilization. The atomsphere blocks virtually all the more effective UV-C and only lets about 5% of B through. Glass even clear optical glass just happens to block almost all UV-B as well. This is why you won't get a sunburn if nap next to a window on a sunny day

A good thing about burnt wood aka charcoal.. It naturally cleans the water from micro organisms. Just line the bottom of your container with it. And filter it through to a smaller container with more charcoal. As you transfer the water back to the big tank it cleans it twice.. My grandfather had an old well. That was a way that his father showed him how to clean water here..

We have a 55 gallon plastic barrel. I plan to site barrel up on blocks or logs and drill a hole or two in the bottom & then cut enough wood to burn and make enough charcoal to fill the barrel ⅓ to ½ with small to medium sized charcoal. The finer inches of charcoal dust should settle & collect at the bottom of the barrel...and then put a fine garden mesh over the charcoal and almost fill the barrel to within 4-6" with fine, well rinsed sand from the creek. We plan to filter & drink this creek water that runs pretty fast most of the time. Another layer of the garden mesh on top would help shield against bugs & flies, leaf litter, pollen & other foreign matter.... If anyone has thoughts of this not working well or working better with additional back woods technologies. Our family would certainly appreciate any comments you good folks would care to share with us! Thank You! Raylan & Judi

So each person in our family has a water bottle which will allow for 264 days of clean water for each member, since one person needs about 1 gallon of water per day for hygiene, food and hydration needs. I highly recommend them we have tested one out and it works great. They also stop the intake of water once they have gone bad. Lightweight, saves space, and could save your life.

Very good start on basic water , treatment . Great idea not complicating the process too much, Well done. First I was a Certified Water/Waste Water Treatment Operator for over 30 years so I have pretty good idea of how it’s done in a Municipal Treatment Plant. If a person has access to regular household bleach that would solve a big problem with disinfecting the water and killing the little Micro organisms that causes GIiardia which is the diarrhea or dysentery. Prefiltering with tee shirt material, coffee filter or a simple made sand filter, gets the TSS Total Suspended Solids out which can actually recontaminate your water . You can make gallons of Chlorine by picking up Chlorine used in swimming pools for disinfecting the water, it will store indefinitely. Great video, should really get people to thinking about how simple water treatment is with the bare essentials and right supplies.

Please help tell me what may be: ALL my white plastics/other items with water exposure collect a brownish pinkish color! Kitchen water sprayer, dish strainer, kids urinal & more, toilet, drained in sinks… I even noticed this on other plastic water playground items turning colors as well. It began in Feb 2021- I’ve lived here for 7 years & this is the 1st issue I’ve had with the city water. It cleared up after about 3 months, then it came back 2x as hard in May 2022 & has not left this time. Is it the “regime” in that water treatment facility, or something worse, if possible? I’ve been buying water since I seen that happen. When I wipe it off to clean & disinfect & it actually rubs off as some kind of dirty substance I’ve never seen when cleaning! It’s very odd & disturbing. Thanks! Mebane, NC :)

I save my old Berkey filters, which provided 10 years of service. Use old filters with two 5-gallon buckets as a primary filter, if you have to use surface water or murky well water. Then the clear, but not necessarily clean water can be transferred to a Berkey or Berkey like unit for final filtration. This will save your most effective filters and cistern from needing constant cleaning. Make sure to rinse the primary filter reservoirs after use, so as not to have particulate build up.

I have a LifeStraw and I use it when our local water company gives boil notices. WHO does a lot of clean water projects around the world. The sun works for 'most' pathogens. As someone who has lived many years in a developing nation this is not considered a safe option. I am also not into letting water bake in one of those bottles, warnings not to let them bake in your car. I now use glass and just refill from the tap. Absolutely great idea on the alternate Burkey, I'm going to try that. Also noticed there are used ones online. The US and many other places are getting weather changes that create situations where flood water or snow are the sources of water. Sometimes there is very little sunlight or even electricity for days. I used cat litter buckets to gather snow to melt and then boil but there are times when boiling is not an option, so I am planning a larger filter system. The thing I like about your DIY is that when not in use one bucket could be tucked inside the other. If you do another video with water test results or maybe there is a lab that would do them for you that would be cool to see.

*I realize the subtext of this video is **_"Water purification that doesn't require electricity."_* *However, assuming you have access to electricity - and, as a good prepper, why wouldn't you have a solar cell array - consider a water distiller. They can be found on Amazon for as low as $75; though I'd recommend spending a bit more (around $125) to get one that is UL listed and with a digital timer to shut off after a set time.* *I have well water that is super heavy; not just with calcium, but iron, too. The water is visibly orange and absolutely disgusting to drink; probably not safe to drink long-term, either. I fill my water distiller, plug it in, set the timer, and 4 hours later I have 3 liters of distilled H20. Due to the water being boiled to produce steam which is then condensed back into liquid, it's sterilized; there are no bacteria or viruses. The condensate also passes through a carbon filter to remove VOCs (assuming there were any to begin with). At the end I'm left with nothing but pure, drinkable H20.* *For those concerned about the lack of minerals, simply buy yourself a small bag of Himalayan Sea Salt. Adding 1/4 teaspoon per gallon of distilled water restores whatever mineral losses you may be concerned about without negatively impacting the flavor (i.e. you can't taste the salt).* *Lastly, as the distiller pumps out a considerable amount of heat (after all, it **_IS_** boiling water for 4 hours), it can double as a space heater in the Winter for a small cabin. Win-win. If you got creative, you could probably even rig some kind of stand above the exhaust fan - while still allowing sufficient air flow - to heat (HEAT, not cook) food.* *So, like I said in the opening, if you've got electricity, I think a water distiller is your best bet for the purest, safest possible drinking water.*

You can get the buckets and lids from any bakery for just a couple bucks. Even Walmart will sell them. Also, if you vent the bottom bucket it will filter much faster. There are many ways to do that so I won't list them all here but it really speeds things up. I use a home made system like you showed when camping in the boundry waters. Works great with lake water. But 2 things to remember. When you filter lake water for a few days the filters will get scum on the outside. You can take them out and clean them with a tooth brush and keep using them. And let's face it. No one is actually going to filter 12,000 gallons of water. So the real life span of the filters are 1 year once you start using them. Not sure what happens at the end of the year, but all the ones on the internet that I researched said something like 12,000 gallons or 1 year. If anyone knows if you can safely use them after a year please let me know. Maybe it's just the companies way to drive sales?

The life straw and the P&G packets are nice for a week-long camping trip. But if you want to be surviving for years without any other human contact, dig a well. The ground filters water and slowly introducing that water into your supply will get your body accustomed to it. I know this because I lived in cities/suburbs up until I was about 26, and then I moved into a place I could afford out in the country, where they had only well water. The first day there drinking the tap water (which came straight from the well) I was sick as hell with the runs. So I decided to get bottled water to last me a week, and for every cup of bottled water I'd add a teaspoon of the well water. After only a month of doing that, I tried straight drinking the well water and was fine from then on. Survival isn't about "getting the best products to help you", it's about acclimation and adaptation.

Scoop the water out trying not to unsettle what's at the bottom then boil the water for 30 minutes and filter it through a shirt. Boiling the water is 100% safe against pathogens etc but it wont remove chemicals heavy metals etc. It would be interesting to find the right materials like activated charcoal and fibers to make a simple but much more efficient filter. If you're planning to bug in and you've got some warning that the grid and/or water system will go down, there are several vendors that sell a $20-$40 bag that fits in your bathtub. So long as you still have water pressure and your municipal pipes aren't contaminated, you can use one of those bags to safely store 40-50 gallons of clean water.

@@islamisthetruewaytogod6812 YOU ARE TOTALLY WRONG ISLAM IS NOT THE TRUE WAY. ISLAM IS A FALSE FALSE ANTICHRIST RELIGION THAT WAS STARTED BY THE CATHOLIC CHURCH. YOU DO NOT KNOW YOUR HISTORY. IF YOU TRULY WANT TO KNOW THE TRUTH THE TRUE AND LIVING GOD WILL SHOW YOU. ISLAM DID NOT START UNTIL ABOUT 1600 BC. THE TRUE GOD CREATED MANKIND WAY BEFORE AND SHOWED MEN THE WAY. SATAN THROUGH THE CATHOLIC CHURCH AND OTHER EVIL INFLUENCES PREVERTED THE TRUTH TO LEAD MANKIND AWAY FROM GOD TO HELL. GO RESEARCH AND LEARN THE SIMILARITIES BETWEEN THE CATHOLIC CHURCH AND ISLAM. In a bag of water skimmed from the top of the water source WITHOUT handfuls of mud added, the packets would probably work perfectly and give you clear water. The P&G particles are attaching themselves to the dirt and sinking to the bottom. You added like 5 normal bags worth of sediment, so of course the particles will run out and leave dirty water. Therefore you need to add more P&G particles to sink more dirt.

A rule I was taught years ago is if it is flexible or has any taste to it that material is unsafe for water storage. This pretty much leaves glass as an option. I went on a survival course about 25 years ago. It was a very fun, yet difficult, week. They showed us many different ways to distil contaminated water and one of the sources they used had gasoline in it. The first thing they showed was to decant anything that is floating on the water and discard it to get rid of most petroleum products, but some lighter compounds would still remain.. Then to heat the remaining water in open air, but keeping it from boiling, until 1/3 has gone. That would drive off most of the VOCs and lighter petroleum products. Only then would they start to collect the distillate. And even at that point they were not done. The water collected was then run through a home built charcoal filter and put back through the distillation process. Granted this was a VERY wasteful process and you only got back about 25% of the water you started with but that water was CLEAN. It was stored in glass jugs with limestone chips in the bottom to buffer the water. It also made it taste great.
