MILLIONS OF DOLLARS IN CAMERA GEAR IN ONE PLACE | Photographing Bald EAGLES
I joined the crew from Allen's Camera out at Conowingo Dam in Delaware to photograph bald eagles in the wild. bit.ly/2p4zBaj
It turns out hundreds of photographers show up as early as 5am to stake out a spot. I saw hundreds of thousands of dollars if not millions of dollars worth of gear in one spot.
People love capturing bird photos as you can tell. Are you one with Nature, do you like going out to shoot?

That's me at 1:05 - was nice to meet you Jared.
Thats why i say wildlife photography is the hardest, you gotta be sooo patient and yet sooo fast when something finally happens, and you don't have control over what's happening so you also have to have luck, and u also be willing to be dirty, cold, ser etc...
Really getting into this vlog style video Jared. Love it.
Come to Seward, Alaska! We have bald eagles everywhere. They are about fifty feet away or even on top of the street light poles as well.

They are plenty in the tress right above where Jarod parked at Conowingo also. Many chance for someone even with a Point and shoot to get some great photos is they know what they are doing. In fact many of the eagles once they have got their catch or stole it from another head to the trees and get up on the limbs to start eating. Great opportunity to get close up and interesting photos. Also when they are not fishing, many many are perched in the trees as well as a few that nest there.
Great vlog, one question you posed more to yourself was what does it take to do nature photography. It would be great for you to find a couple of experienced shooters amongst all those folks and interview them and ask them for tips and tricks while you’re there. Ask them what they’re shooting with, ask them what settings they’re using for auto focus, etc. just some constructive criticism, I love the content it it’s different to see from what you normally done so bravo! Just don’t miss the next opportunity to do more interviews.

Chris Martin what takes to do nature photography? Well you just need close to a million dollars worth of equipment. Just look at those guys in the video 😂
More videos like this one please.
Probably one of the few times you could have packed 20 lenses but forgotten the memory cards and still come home with a smile. This is the equivalent of a car club meet up I guess :)
I noticed you're the only one not wearing hat..lol

Love the feel of this vlog! Keep it up Jared
Hey Jarred funny how you mention the nikon 200- 500 5.6, i bought that lens in july and could not be happier, i shoot birds and lots of other stuff and just love the over all quality and boken, nice to see you out in nature!
What an awesome video! I must say that your shooting and editing skills are quite fabulous! Also, you have a great sense of humor!
You have captured the essence of nature photography. The best laugh I have had in a long time!!!
MARYLAND.
This was a dope vlog...enjoyed this one alot, maybe it was the birds,.
That's what I call dedication! Thanks for inspiring us!
Thanks Jared, I needed a reason to smile today!!!!!!
Perfect Opportunity for Fro-"Does anyone need help setting up their camera? I have a KZread Channel, you know...So I'm an expert at ALL types of photography! I can help you, but you have to sign up for my mailing list and download My Gear Vault" "Oh, yes Ma'am...and how many I shoot Raw t-shirts can I put you down for?"
I Have seen Brandon with an Olympus E-M1 mkii and 300 mm F4 THATS GREAT!! Silent too, and it has Pro-Capture Mode for birds
I’ve been there a few times this fall. The eagle activity is unpredictable. The best spot is on the rocks at the waterline next to the platform. Also, fujifilms continuous autofocus sucks even with 3.0 firmware.
Made the 7 hr drive up from NC today. Not alot of activity but still a great day. It's in Maryland however, not Delaware.
interesting that its all Canon and Nikon out there :) there is magazines and photographers that go on and on about Sony etc. not saying they are bad!! but their not on the battlefield :) as I call it :) still use my D700, I call it the tank!! I have no fear with that guy out in the weather :)
I love your vlogs, please keep on doing them
Seriously... I live 10 minutes from an area where today, December 20, 2017, I counted 10 eagles in a tree... got a few good shots, and a lot of semi-good shots... and this isn't even my secret spot, where last year, there were 30+ eagles in an area, where the canal is super narrow, allowing a 70-200 lens to work really well.. get in contact with me peeps :) I love photographing eagles!
I just loved this video.... you are the best...!
Love this vlog and the advise at the end to get to know other people who like the same stuff. I must follow suit. Keep the vlogs going but dont neglect the "Photo News Fix" I love that session too.
Man I was there yesterday! They were mostly hunting before the light was good but still had a blast.
One point. . Some days at the dam you get a lot more activity. A whistle blows and the dam lets out water with a lot of stunned fishes. The eagles are conditioned by the whistle for this activity. That is why they congregate there. Nature photography?
Enjoying the blog style video!
You should take a trip to Wabasha, MN along the upper Mississippi. It's a lovely winter nesting ground for bald eagles.
You should head back sometime now that you have access to many more bodies and super telephoto lenses. Conowingo has been a place where I've captured some of my best eagle shots, though there are many more to come as I continue to make trips up to the Dam.
We went there last month. Had a great time but it was cold. Took lots of pics. Well worth it.
you should come back out, the dam has been quiet since COVID-19, I see maybe 3 other photographers it's just not the same army.
Awesome video Jared! God dam..
Loved this episode!
Hi Jared...you are my first mentor......thank you..:D
3:45 well, how things are changing. Now at least half of the people use Sony :D
Lived in DE all of my childhood, if you can brave the humidity the wildlife scene is surreal.
Fun video, but a real shame you didn't take advantage of this amazing place and take some photos. Catching a sharp image of an eagle snatching fish out of the water is very challenging. I've tried a couple times with less than satisfying results. May try again yet this season.
Holy shit that’s a crazy amount of equipment.
Very nice video fro...
More content like this one Jared please
Uncle Jared, shooting RAW is affecting my work flow since my PC sucks a little bit specially when stacking or doing panoramas :( please tell Santa Claus that I'd like an Intel i9, 64GB of RAM and an Nvidia Titan X.
Dude, I just started vlogging and it’s seriously the most difficult thing to be authentically yourself and fearless while putting yourself on camera... you sir, do an amazing job at it.
I know that feeling... Waiting for hours until an animal a. finally bothers to get up and b. actually does something cool or looks right at you. www.flickr.com/photos/mathiasappel/27388463849/ I love it :) And it's so rewarding when you finally get that one shot!
I really liked the music in the second half of the video. I thought it fit the mood really well. It took me awhile to find it, but in case anyone was wondering it's: Key To The City - Christian Nanzell.
It's been a long time since I've been to Conowingo but man, did I spend a lot of time there. I was the only person sitting down on the rocks by the water to get the best fishing shots.
"Its cold out here ... for a pimp" nice one Jared .... Dam Birds hahahaha
I was thinking of heading there this week.

Give it a shot.
3:53"what time do the birds come out?" A: When you STFU ...THATS WHEN
I bet if everyone had a Sony camera there would be a ton of birds around, because Sony is for the birds, hahaha see what I did there, sometimes times I just kill myself hahaha
Great stuff.
Really nice video dude!
That was cool
Jared Polin I have had issues with Light Room can you recommend an alternative. I never took a photography class and learned what I know from following you... I trust you when it comes to photography
Great place to go and thanks for the amusing vlog but note it’s in MD (not DE).
This reminds me more of landscape photographer than wildlife photography. I can't count how many times I've had to wake up in the middle of the night, drive or hike to a location, only to wait for the perfect lightning. I'm only just getting into Wildlife photography but I'm blessed to be in an area where Golden and Bald Eagles nest. I spend my free time out photographing them as well as other Raptors. I do have some wait time but nothing bad and I don't have to get up this early either. Its something fun for sure though.
This is very nice!
Watching this in 2022, 4 yrs ago nobody shot using sony 😅 nowadays sony is pretty big name in bird photography
I'm digging the vlog
Sup Jared, no-coat guy here :D Was good meeting you. without your channel, I don't know if I'd have ever gotten into photography enough to drive 2 hours to the dam or anywhere else, so thanks for that. It probably looks pretty boring but the cool thing about the dam is you can get the kind of shot that might require coming out every day for a month to some other location where maybe there's just a nest or two. I used to read about some spot online and hang out there all day and not see a single eagle. but once I found out about the dam, I knew I could at a minimum get some shots of them perching and filling the frame, or flying overhead. It's just the shots of them snatching up a fish that aren't guaranteed, but as you said it's good to just hang out and meet other photo nerds.
the guy with the purlple hood was carring a sony camera . you didnt notice that Jared !!!
That was great, looked like a F1 race that never started... with camo.
Jared you ought to check out cherry springs state park in northern PA and check out the astrophotographers this spring/summer
Enjoyed this style vlog a lot, hope to see more of them. There's loads of eagles around where I live. Sometimes get pics of them around the property or elsewhere in the province. Some farms also do carcass dumping which brings a LOT of them around. Went once but it felt like baiting to get an an animal pic, didn't enjoy it at all - sure, you can get great shots that way but just wasn't for me.
It has to be close to a million dollars in camera gear between bodies, lenses, tripods, accessories so on so forth right? Haver you ever photographed EAGLES in the wild, if so where?

Right there at the dam. I live 11 miles away and use A9 and A7 R II or even the a6300. Sometimes they fly over the house as well.

The dump. Every eagle around here (near Vancouver, BC) knows that's where you find the best grub.

We have eagles, year-round (though not in the numbers shown in your video) in northern Arizona near Flagstaff. Other parts of the state get eagles in greater numbers. Here's a link to a shot from last weekend: flic.kr/p/22C1QUg
300 2.8 is a very popular wildlife lens. slap on a 2x tc and it works just fine for birds.
Meeting people in a pit at a rock show is cool too... and usually a lot warmer. lol \m/
Hi, great video theme, which camera did you use to record this video?

1years ago i shooted all photo only Jpeg format but now JaredPolin s advices the best for me and ishoot raw too like this :)
dude that's a GREAT rim light...
nice but we will love to see your shoots, and what how you will edit this photos because will be haze
Amazing how this was just a year ago and now Sony is such a dominant player in the game!
I have bald eagles and osprey flying around in my back yard a lot.
O geesh only clip of my Truck is at 0:48 seconds ,Big red is sticking out
Jared polin!! Brother i have a problem with my nikon d3300 when i click photos it look great on camera but when i see it on my pc it gets blur!! Can u help?😊
I take my 500mm f/4 VR with Nikon D500 on Tripod and Nikon D850 with Nikkor 200-500mm handheld, in case some eagle flies close.
Should have brought the kitty, I think the eagles like playing with kitties.
I have a ren faire acquaintance who does wildlife photography when he's not at the faire. And he says it's all about the patience. I really don't have that kind of patience myself. I mean, I can make myself sit still and wait, but eeeehhhhh... The acquaintance though- his photos are awesome. He does the same as these folks- drives for hours, sits for hours, comes back with massive amounts of photos.
A cool place for sure but for Bald Eagles, I'll take north Idaho any day. Close range shooting and hundreds of eagles. AND nowhere near as congested.
Im hoping I can get my Canon T7i next year!!!
Ok very cool. But this isn't Delaware, it's Maryland. Thanks for sharing the adventure with us though.
Jared can you go to the same place again and see what everyone uses nowadays!

Probably Sony
I feel lucky that I can photography bald eagles right in a major city (Vancouver)
not as many Eagles as in the Past the droughts in September and October leaves hardly any water flowing , so not much flow past dam, its been more of a lake last few years on the lower end
You forgot fuji (-; and i like shooting jpg sooc. But still like your Channel. Best wishes from Austria, Europe.
Funniest fro show of all time lol😂
I shoot raw my mentor says why I go fro . He’s taught me on my d5600 Nikon I just got it . I practice on gulls . And osprey for eagles tracking. He went to university of md
the conowingo dam is in md
What is Sony Jared?
what about all the nice tripods?
I wish I was brave enough to get up that early and take pictures 😂
It thought he said: You what's the nature of nature photographers? WEIGHT (not wait) hahahaha
I much prefer videos like this over you taking gear out of boxes and smelling it. Maybe try incorporating some impromptu interviews focusing on the gear and technique people use, and why.
Jared where is the A7RIII real world ????!!!!

6:22 onward your voice is better than shutter's. 🤣 Nice. Love n respect from Pakistan ❤
Like the vibe of the video. Would like to have a little more interaction with the other photographers. But do like the direction your going.
canon?

Very interesting but tell all these people that in my country, each monday morning between 4 and 4.15 in the morning we have some flying elephants in a great weekly migration ! You just have to come North of Canada ! Elephants are fantastics there. Click! Click ! click !
Awesome video Jared, good advice, shoot lots of pictures! shoot RAW ! and finally when it's slow, shoot the shit with your fellow photographers.
