Our veterans and elderly should be top priority when it comes to public benefits. As for non-citizen immigrants, no benefits! Benefits should be qualified citizen only! And we need to stop sending taxpayer money overseas.

You need a social security number to qualify for state/federal benefits. A few states have limited emergency programs for non citizens but they have to show proof of legal immigration and residency. These benefit programs are very sparse, only about $200 a month and typically last only about 90 days per household annually, and only families with dependant children qualify (similar to TANF but specifically for immigrants). Non citizens cannot and do not recieve SNAP and other state or federal funded benefits.

@@jasmineshelton759 Anyone, up til about 1990. Since then the cost of flour, shortening, potatoes, rice, corn, eggs, rent, electricity, and all other living expenses have outpaced inflation and become unaffordable to many Americans. These goods were not previously sold for profit. Supermarkets could get by on the markups because shoppers had disposable income for things like greeting cards, baked goods, and confections which *do* have a high markup. But since shoppers' disposable incomes have been drastically reduced by inflation (greed), they no longer have the means to include those high-margin items in their lives, and supermarkets are forced to start gouging on those "staple goods" that it's just not morally right to mark up. This is also why you see gigantic international chain stores with billions in capital like Walmart and Aldi pulling out of low-income neighborhoods. Those stores were never designed to sell bread and eggs. They were designed to sell silicone salad tongs and imitation butter cookies in metal tins that cost them virtually nothing and are almost 100% profit. They can no longer remain viable because *the people are no longer viable* and that's a much worse problem for us than it is for Aldi. None of us can afford to bring kids into the world. That's why birth rates are plummeting all over the developed world. It's why Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg are terrified there won't be enough minions to fill their planned city-sized factories.

The main point is not whether those benefits are going to the poor kids, or under the poverty line. The main point is people don't think and plan before they have kids. The Snap benefits should be distributed exclusively to the elderly and the disabled, if people are being responsible. This is America, not a third world country that it needs labors to work on the farm.

@@trapaneezus Personally, I wouldn’t be so judgmental about the choices people are making. In terms of calories, those purchases are about the best one can do. Unfortunately, as you correctly point out, they are empty calories along with additives, fillers, stabilizers and preservatives, which have been linked to type 2 diabetes, hypertension, malnutrition, obesity and increases in overall cancer. If you check USDA’s budget, you may be surprised to see that food stamps (now SNAP thanks to Michelle Obama) are the largest single item, followed by industrial farm subsidizes. Treatment for the chronic illnesses listed are paid through HHS for those on SNAP as well. So, the overall picture is quite ugly. USDA pays industrial farmers to over produce, then pays people to over consume, and HHS pays big pharma to manage their chronic illnesses; and more recently the CDC has abandoned evidence based medicine to imposed ineffective restrictions on health people to prevent an overwhelming of the US medical system due to the burgeoning population of the chronically ill. In the past, this merger of corporate and state interests had a name, but it’s been so misused a new term has been coined: stakeholder capitalism. Of course, this is not free market capitalism at all - quite the opposite.

@@goddess3274 That's grossly inaccurate. To qualify for basic food benefits (which are typically only $150-200 monthly and barely enough to survive on) you have to have meet a gross income limit and have no assets worth more than the total limit (so the state will verify recipients are actually living below the poverty line). And as of the early 2010s most states have been requiring single adults to show either proof of employment or participate in a vocational training program and attend interviews weekly, just to recieve basic food assistance. So it's not just free money for "lazy people". To qualify for basic cash assistance (which is no more than between $200 and $305 monthly, which is not enough live on anywhere in the US) you have to show proof of employment or medical proof of inability to work along with meeting other basic income requirements. The % of food stamp/benefit fraud is less than 10% of total recipients, the majority are homeless or suffering from clinical SAD/other mental health issues and generally are people who legitimately qualified for benefits but misused them by either selling the cards for cash or trading them to others (which the state does bill for, so if a person fraudulently recieves food benefits for a year they have to pay back every dime recieved. The government does not play with benefit fraud). There is no rampant benefit fraud in the US and the benefits provided are so miniscule and typically require quarterly renewal and active participation in social welfare programs, that exploiting the system for personal gain is essentially completely pointless and almost impossible to do.

The only place a person can really go is to the people for help. Your government doesn't help. Want to get fiscally responsible? Then how about those unregulated checks for those PPP loans? Isn't that a hand out too by your definition? How about corporate welfare and tax breaks? Did you know that when the cares act was passed, almost 2 billion out of the 3 billion in the proposal went to the rich and business owners? And to reiterate, that money was forgivable if they met those requirements which were very little compared to unemployment which most now have to pay back! Get real, Jennifer!

They made more than the people who continued to work throughout all of Covid… Quit crying and whining and go get another job that pays more or get a second job. Also, people need to stop continuously having kids thinking that it’s the government’s job to take care of them and the taxpayers. It’s not… 💯

@@jenniferb5706 Your comment is one of the most comical I've come across to date. You blame "democrats" for all the "freebies", then demonize people who are trying to survive while at the same time YOU being okay with children starving through no fault of their own!? WOW!! You're really something special and I hope you know that! And I don't mean it in a good way either! Aside from rebuffing your meaningless personal attacks, ALLOW ME to educate you on HISTORICAL/DATA facts since you seem quite knowledgeable in that regard (even though you haven't demonstrated a thing other than a 3rd level political bias/tantrum/frustration). Since I am a data analyst, let me school you with some knowledge that even someone with a high school level education can understand. Fact 1: Ronald Reagan, when in office preaching about his ridiculous Reaganomics which never worked BTW, tripled the debt Fact 2: Bush 41 added as much debt as Reagan in a single term Fact 3: Bill Clinton added the least amount of debt in 40 years Fact 4: George W Bush doubled the debt and took deficit spending to 2 Trillion Fact 5: Obama added 8 trillion, BUT LOWERED THE DEFICIT spending by 2/3rds FACT 6: Trump added THE MOST DEBT THAN ANY PRESIDENT BY FAR IN A SINGLE TERM!!! Doubled deficit spending his first year!!!!! If you've reach at this point, congrats! By now you should realize that A)Republicans have a spending/debt problem EVERY TIME they took office, B)Republicans are all for "free markets" and deregulation policies (The Latest Ohio Palestine should be proof of your MAGA president protecting corporate interests), C)Democrats have either managed the deficit, reduced it, or even cut it successfully to prevent a meltdown which is obviously the mess leftover from a prior Republican administration: Don't take my word for it though, but feel free to look it ALL UP!! It's clear that ANY discussion involving programs, parents, politics, or even public policies ARE beyond your pay grade and knowledge. But keep it up with those ad-hominem attacks and blaming Biden! Oh by the way, you sound bitter! Go get help!

@@Luci_S I honestly can’t take anything you said seriously right now. Data analyst for who CNN? Get your facts straight. You idiots who continuously try to put Trump down because you have had your “feelings hurt”… I cannot believe you honestly think what we’re facing in this country is because of the Republicans. Obviously, you’re an idiot who needs to go back to school. You obviously didn’t get your education somewhere real. You obviously faked it. And you have no idea what my level of education is or how much I make. I’m sure I make way more than you could ever obtain in your lifetime. My house is paid off. My vehicles are paid off. I have no debt. I live very well. Nice try on that one. The country is a mess strictly due to the Democrats. Look up your facts - crime is the highest it has ever been and in some cities is over 50% more. Facts - inflation is the highest it has ever been. Facts that you want to ignore and blame on someone else other than biden and the democrats…nice try 🤣🤣🤣. And as for help- I’m not sure I’m the one that needs any help.
