Tom being the one who ran the boy out really foreshadows the whole Wambsgans triple play theory

Logan looked disgusted but he makes people play disgusting games too (boar on the floor). Shiv knew it wasn't right. Kendall did the thing everyone said Tom did in season 4: put work before family. I don't think it was a tell-all scene like the article that just sent me here says it was.

The one million dollars would have changed this family forever, but for Roman, it was no more than a game. The way he tore it apart meant that your efforts don't matter; you need to win to get anything at all. And they were playing with a kid, a bunch of grown-ups playing a game against a kid: it means that the riches (the grown-ups) are united, above any feud, to keep the poor in the same mud they always have been. Logan's handshake, the only one of them who met and tasted the poverty, means that he respects and recognizes the efforts of the boy, he knows what is to be in the arena, surrounded by lions, but he cannot break the rules and give an undeserved prize to the kid.

It's super stupid and naive to think that receiving a million fixes the problems for the family. But it would have potential to destroy the life of the kid. The only way to build his life is working hard and steady. And since he is from a poor family he would have to start with very little. So how do you expect a person to work hard and be happy with earing little by little when he has a memory of gaining a million for nothing? That is the most destructive thing ever in terms of motivation and career. He simply wouldn't be able to built his life after such "luck". AND YES, EFFORTS DO NOT MATTER, MATTERS ONLY RESULT. WELCOME TO THE REAL WORD.

@@omg9261working hard doesn’t get you a million dollars. It would have changed and saved his family’s life. The wealthy don’t get to where they are by staying up late, they use others and extract their time and Labour and reap the rewards.

tom is more of a scumbag than roman here, could have pulled his punches and let the kid win but he had to prove himself to the roys, ironically letting the kid win would have been more impressive than literally tagging him, everyone in the pilot was so screwed up lmao

The kid would've noticed that they let him win, or it would've been memorable enough for him to just realize it years later. It would've stopped to mean anything. The kid probably would've learned the wrong lesson as a result and grow up with an additional problem. It's much better that he wins it in a real way. Life lessons are much more valuable than money. They did the right thing.

@@kemalatakankrca5608 Man, there's multiple problems in one moment here. We're not discussing the problem of how it started. Of course they are wrong about that. We're discussing the problem of how to proceed after that, and in that regard it's better to feel the momentary bitter sting instead of the lifelong lie of a fake victory. Someday you'll understand that in some situations you'll only have bad outcomes, and it becomes a matter of playing out the least problematic one.

@@samflynn97 But I don't think this comment takes into consideration that this was never a fair game. This child is literally half their size playing a game against full-grown adults. He was always outmatched and they knew it. That's what makes it fun for them. They didn't "do the right thing" because they weren't teaching him a life lesson, nothing they ever do is for the benefit of others.

Roman rips up the check that would've changed the kid's life like it's a piece of trash directly in front of him. Digusting. This family is foul, and I can't stop watching how awful they are. It's good they got the watch at the end, though. They deserved that.

  • @samflynn97

It actually would've warped the kid's mind if he had given him the money without actually winning it. It wasn't the deal. Being rewarded for failure? Teaching a kid to be weak would be the fouler act. No amount of money can ever substitute a solid life lesson. It may have tasted bitter, but Roman actually helped the kid be more focused in his life. Nothing was taken from him, so the kid still walked off the field richer than when he walked on.
