My all time favorite-1969 Charger...I have owned a 70 Challenger, owned a 68 Dart Swinger 340 (Both 340 cars), but the closest was almost buying a 69 Charger SE (Back in 1987). He was only asking $1200 for the car...Oh to go back in time. Anyway, Great Show, Beautiful Work and Very Interesting. Also very close, I grew up 60 miles South of you guys. Now I am in Portland. I really need to stop by sometime. Keep up the good work bringing them back to the streets. Thanks!

@@taylorperry7843 they must be getting lazy - 20-30+ years ago numbers matching meant the numbers on the engine matched the vin. Anything else is bullshit. But I can tell you it wasn't unusual at the dealerships to yank an engine or transmission out of an unsold car to cover a warranty job and replace it later instead of the customer waiting weeks, so what does it really mean? But when you yank a 427 out of a dump truck, stick it in a Corvette and call it numbers matching, that's pure bullshit and only an idiot would hand over the money.

I ran into a similar problem with a Corvair. I was almost set to buy an all original unrestored Corvair Spyder, but when I asked for the VIN number from the seller, I was hit with a number where one character was indicating that it was a Monza, not a Spyder. It had all the signs that it was an original Spyder. I should have bought it even though it probably should have been labeled as a Clone or Tribute car. The price was right for a Monza. There are other ways to find out if it was a real Spyder. I should have bought it. I think it was a real Spyder and could have verified it.

And you will get the chalk mark, paint dab purist white will insist anything that doesn’t conform to the “rules” is obviously a fraudulent car. People need to realize these cars were made by PEOPLE!!! The automakers didn’t (and still don’t) give a shit about correctness. Unless a mistake creates a safety or warranty concern, it was quickly forgotten. And if a particular part wasn’t available at that moment, chances are they substituted the next best upgraded item whenever possible. They are not going to stop an assembly line with a few hundred thousand dollars of unfinished inventory just because the right part wasn’t available, especially if they could get their hands on a part that will work! As long as there is a parts counter clicking somewhere, top brass is happy!

@@mattrodgers4878 @Auteur Fiddler; You both are indicating and conveying some important ideas, yet also have some confusion and misinformation too. When, how, why, which reason and basis, benefit, etc. do any serial number and specifically vehicle, engine, transmission, body-frame identification numbers exist ? WE ALL are well inDOCtrinated into the Authoritarian/ISM, Industrialist/ISM, Corporate/ist/ISM, Socialist/ISM, Communist/ISM, Globalist/Elite/ISM and their massive Falsehood, Pretense, Lies, Propaganda, etc. Matt, with You attempt to convey, describe or explain the stamped VIN plate on the driver's side dash near the windshield/screen, You seem to ignore the clear aspect of and with the 16 characters in the stamped plate, thus missing one, and thus not simply a 'typo' and thus an improper explanation. AS seen, from the comparisons and known divisions, designations of the various sections of the VIN, clearly the missing letter is the engine type designation as per the Chrysler/Dodge/Plymouth standards and common with many other USA manufactures, later others and implemented within the DOT-NHTSA Regulations also. Had the specific letter in the been the more common engines, then Your explanation of this more unusual 1969 Charger with a 426 Hemi, designated with a 'J' instead of 'G' or 'H', would explain the possible error by the individual which set the type for the plate stamp, and had all of the other details correct which matched set with the engine- transmission serial number and also stamped into the body-frame in two locations. Somehow this error was not detected or check via the vehicle inspector for QA/QC or possibly such did not exist [production line mangers, workers, QA/QC inspectors from that model year and assembly line would certainly be good sources of the details which existed and could more accurately describe, explain correct possible basis for this specific mistake-error, which seems to be rare and unusual. Certainly, as the automotive manufacturing process, production developed to have better QA/QC inspection, verification, etc. and more automated, these possible errors would be eliminated. Perhaps with the DOT-NHTSA requirements for January 1, 1969 and more so for the 1981 model years, may have led to more precise, exact, accurate means, methods and automated VIN plates, markings, etc., so they all match exactly, properly and include a verified, final inspection of them too. Auteur Fiddle, Your attempts have the clear falsehood, pretense, etc. of the fale portrayals conveyed by many, especially within the media, 'unions' [which are Socialist/ISM], etc. conveying the typical falsehood which is presented in the "Communist Manifesto" and prevoius 'Socialist/ISM' philosophy too. Thus they are more rooted within the false inDOCtrination, Propaganda, etc. than the attempted explanation of Matt and thus more feeble too. Clearly the final stamped VIN plate placed on the driver's side dash, would certainly never 'hold up' an entire production line, and could have been detected, noticed, corrected at the final inspection stage, after the vehicle moves into the lot from the production line. Auteur, have You ever actually visited an vehicle production line or have seen a video recording of the entire process ? My Automotive instructor-teacher in High School arranged and took us to the closest auto manufacturing-assembly facility in Baltimore, Maryland, in 1975-6, which was a GM manufacturing-assembly plant which produced-assembled their midsize vehicles [A body-frame]. We saw first hand most of the assembly plant which We were permitted with a 'Tour' via the designated person within the management and public relations. It was very enlightening, useful, helpful, beneficial and still today, although the manufacturing and assembly process has become mostly to entirely automated. The common production line method developed by Henry Ford, in which each part is assembled by one, a pair or group as necessary for that part, component, down to the smallest action as fastening a single screw or simple placement of a part, item, etc. In that assembly plant, as an example, We saw one individual on each side of the assembly line, hang the necessary brackets for the rear fuel tank on the rear of the frame with the complete body already lowered onto it, then the next pair attached the front side of that bracket and an other pair fastened the rear end of the bracket. Similarly this process was done for the brackets to fasten the body to the frame. The Wheels and tires were already on attached, fastened on the wheel hubs. That process was similarly split into one person placed the wheel with tire on the wheel hub, with one individual per all four locations. The next placed the lug nuts on and the next tightened them with a pneumatic power tool. This was at the end of the assembly line, then the vehicle was started, moved off from the assembly line tracks and driven into the lot for inspection. Can You imagine performing the same assembly job function, as limited, minute as this for hours, usually 4, with perhaps short breaks, continuously, then break for lunch, continue again for the next period, for a total of 8 hours each day, 5 days/week, 50 weeks/year, and for years ?!🤨😒 Also then, Volvo had built and operated an assembly plant in Virginia in 1974, [their first, and preceded the Japanese and other foreign automakers-manufactures in the USA] with a unique approach to their assembly to achieve better production quality. In place of this highly divided, repetitive and boring assembly process, method, etc. that Volvo assembly plant had each vehicle assembled by a team that performed and executed every assembly function to complete the vehicle as it moved and proceeded along the production-assembly line. Thus the vehicle was assembled by a team of individuals and the sense of more and greater accomplishment and thus greater pride and quality in the product. The team members also rotated within their positions such that every member performed every assembly function within various vehicles. It was a great success 😄, though for other financial reasons, the plant was later closed by management-executives. 😒 All the Best. 😊 Sincerely ☺

@@newtonfirefly3584 once again, we are discussing mass production. Mistakes can, fid, and will happen. You seem to ignore the fact that prior to 1981, there WAS no standard for what the numbers actually mean. Each automaker had their own system, and some models cars were built in different factory’s. For example, the Oldsmobile cutlass could have been built in Lansing Michigan, linden New Jersey, Ottawa Canada , Fremont California, and in the later years there was another plant that slips my mind. Each plant built the same car, but didn’t always follow the same manufacturing procedure. You pointed out you visited an assembly plant. Good for you. I WORK in the very plant that assembled the transmission in that car. I deal with it every day, management isn’t too worried about things as long as the line is moving and parts counters are clicking. I can guarantee you that if myself or another worker stopped the line due to a non critical error more than a couple times, we would be out the door. I’m betting even more so in the late 60s early 70s. It wasn’t until 1968 it became mandatory to have the vin visible in the windshield. Prior to that, the vin could have been in the door frame, under the hood, wherever the automaker wanted. I’m not sure when it became mandatory to stamp the vin in major components, but I’m betting it was probably about the same time. I have no doubt there were some disgruntled workers annoyed with all the “new” documentation requirements being forced on them. Keep in mind the way automakers think and operating. If you find a way to do put part A and part B together in less time than they have outlined, they will add part C! Lastly, because these cars are assembled by people, and occasionally people make mistakes, it would not surprise me in the least that final assembly plants had a process or methods to document mistakes. There is no way in hell a assembly plant would scrap a engine, trans, rearend, etc due to a error in stamping. Not would they invest manpower in reworking those errors. I bet if it was caught, and if the QA/inspector decided to be too concerned about it, it was noted in a log somewhere and forgotten. They couldn’t be to concerned about a insignificant (especially during that time) mistake that had ZERO effect on customer satisfaction, warranty, or cost. Lastly, it was pointed out numerous times the was the pad was machined prior to stamping. The area where the mistake was stamped looked unmolested. When these cars were built, they were just cars. It wasn’t until decades later when they stated becoming collectible and valuable that the possibility of fraud became a concern. The odds of un-restored, unmolested car having a re-stamp part is slim.

Not a real rare thing for VIN to not match the vehicle, from factory. The build sheet is what counts. Sometimes you get lucky and the build sheet is still under the back seat or inside a door panel. But not likely after 50 years. Nephew had a 64 Tempest with a Chevy motor and a Oldsmobile VIN. I have a Ascender with a Envoy VIN number. It is good thing as long the GMC dealer does not see the car. That way I can get parts. Isuzu has only commercial truck dealer in North America. Since it was built in Ohio (5 passenger) Isuzu Japan has no parts. Because it built by GM.

Read the title and you may be right ? Although following the bailouts it is unlikely you will be getting the one million dollars from the old Dodge Motor Co.! P.S, I bought an Uzi machine pistol recently with the serial number incomplete. Would you please try to explain to Uzi Manufacturing why they now owe me $ 1,000,000.00 for a cock up? Willing to share the windfall pro rata ! Thanks in advance.

I believe 3/8 inch for Hemi and 440 cars and 5/16 inch for the others. The bigger engines also had a fuel vapor return line which I think was 1/4 inch . I don't remember what year that fuel return line and the special fuel filter vapor seperator near the fuel pump and that had the vapor fitting. I know 1970-73 but I don't know about before or after.

I have what I believe is a numbers matching engine , but one digits is incorrect In the sequence part. In my opinion the odds of finding an engine that close would be slim to none.I find it more likely the one at the factory stamping the engine made a mistake ,as everything about the car looked like that was the way it came from the factory and untouched. In the 1990's or 2000's I bought paint for the car based off the tag without checking the paint book. The car was clearly never painted on and the tag had the wrong color code. I don't get the obsession over numbers rather than what was a great start. My point would be a V-6 Camaro I had at one time. Never dented zero rust perfect GM t-top shell. I as a body man would take that any day over some total piece of shit Z28 that rolled off the assembly line as one, and likely these days be patched together with metal from China.
