Milling up Ash! With The Logosol F2 Sawmill

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Saw up your own wood on the LOGOSOL F2 Farmers Sawmill!
In this video I will be milling up some lovely Ash logs that was kindly given to me! I cut through slabs, which means the boards have live edges on both sides! It is the easiest way of milling up wood. I used my Stihl MS 661 Chainsaw with a 20” bar. I used a ripping chain to get a smooth finish on the slabs.

    Hello Sean mate. I've got a couple tips for you should you be interested. 1. Get out the grinder an cut off every other set of teeth from your chain, this doubles the hp per tooth in the cut and makes cutting go along much quicker. It also half's the amount of time you spend sharpening. 2. I found it handy to make an L shaped jig one end goes over the guide rail and is matched to the depth of the cut from the surface of the guide rail. The other end is graduated down from the height of cut in inches/mm. I found 10" more than plenty, this lets you line up your pith parallel for your first two cuts ( if you are making square edged timbers) 3. A really easy one and the most useful. I whittled a couple of pegs that fit tightly in the round holes in the measuring scale extrusion . Then cut the off with the saw in the carriage. This gives you an exact zero. 4. I fixed some bits of wood to the ends of the guide rail to space out to the depth of the measure scale. This stops the bounce when getting started in the cut. Makes it more accurate and more enjoyable, Happy cutting bud!

    I have an M8 and it looks as if there are some good upgrades to this model. I would say make yourself some wedges to put into the cut gap, it will help stop the planks flying off when you finish cutting. It will also stop a large log dropping onto the chainsaw blade and scaring the s*** out of you when it takes the chain off the bar

    Hi David, thanks for watching and the tips. I will definitely make some wedges... so thank you for that! Yes the M8 is a great chainsaw and I'm sure you can use it with this sawmill!

    My logosol M8 sawmill can be set to do either 1/4 inch clicks or 1/8 inch clicks. Can the F2 sawmill do that?

    Hi Sean, I have a woodland plot and I have plans to mill up loads of Corsican pine as I'm thinning out the crop to allow native species to comeback. I've just bought F2 sawmill. A mate and I have set up the mill. How important is leve;lling the ground beforehand? Thanks for the tip on 2 by 4 to attach to legs to create a base. Regards Paul

  • @SeanEvelegh

    Hi Paul, That's great! I hope you enjoy using the sawmill. You want to sawmill to be and rigid as possible. That doesn't mean it has to be like a rock. Some times mine wobbles and it's not the end of the world, the sawmill will still work fine. I either keep lifting the sawmill up and re-positioning it until the seems flat on the ground, if that's not working, then i would just shim some pieces of wood in the low areas under the 2 by 4 so the sawmill doesn't rock around. I hope that helps.

    Nice video, I've been uming and ahhing about one of these for a while. I had been learning timber milling with a bandsaw and planer, but it takes quite a lot of time and the amount of wasted timber is immense. What is the wood surface like after been cut with a ripping chain, would it need planing or just sanding to get a smooth surface?

  • @SeanEvelegh

    @SeanEvelegh

    5 жыл бұрын

    Hi Robert, sorry for the late reply! From a sharp ripping chain, the surface is great and reading for sealing. what ever mill you use (where and bandsaw or chainsaw) you will still need to plan it down when working with it. I would say the ripping chain doesn't give you more work to clean up.

    HI Paul, yes it is! I think it was moisture staining, and it will probably go away when drying. the logs had been sitting around for a bit.... ideally you should milling the logs up as soon as possible after you cut the tree down. glad you liked the video!
