Great to see the children helping. Noticed your Son wearing gloves when cutting the scrap wood up. Please, you should never wear gloves when working with power tools, especially when using drills and saws. The blade will catch the glove and pull the hand into it. In the case of drills, the drill can catch the glove and pull the hand into it

Jacob, for my Ryobi chopsaw, I made a little material support block from scrap pieces of lumber that's the same height as the saw base, because when I was installing new baseboard trim on my new floating laminate planks, I found that trying to hold an 8ft stick of trim flat on the saw for a perfect 90deg vertical cut was exceedingly difficult, and outright impossible on a 12ft stick of trim. For that same project, I needed a taller fence on the saw as well, because I was using 3 1/2in tall trim, and thanks to the relief milled out on the back of the trim it would tilt over the top of the existing rip fence. So, I took a piece of 3/16" x 4" flat aluminum bar, drilled out & countersunk a couple of holes for mounting screws, then tapped the aluminum fence on the saw to hold the taller piece. That modification gave me a taller AND longer rip fence for greater precision. Of course, the new piece has to stop on both sides of the blade channel, and the new fence on the right side where the motor casing is got a 45deg notch to allow the saw to fully tilt for compound cuts.

Love the head shaking yeah, yeah when your son cuts the 6x6. Another way to keep the bed of the mill stabalized is to put more fill in between the wood beams, just like a railroad bed, it helps to keep the beams from moving.

I'm 84 years old and all of our root cellars were dug under the house, now people are trying to wall them in just remember to make your walls at least 16 inches thick with rebar or the walls will buckle

Hi, pity about hitting that retainer. While watching my creative problem solving kicked; you could make a modified, lower profile stop along the style of the chainsaw grippers. Make them so they have a screw in claw at a lower level, to tension into the outer layer of the log. The log is gripped, not just resting there. If you want to get flash, think about a gripper on long threaded rod, styled like the spring compressors in the auto repair shops, only the retaining saw hooks replace the spring hook. I hope that’s making sense. If you want I can sketch the ideas and email to you, I will check your shop email.

You have an amazing family and you make amazing videos dude I just had one question, if I want to make my own 2x4s and I have my own logs i just cut how long to I have to leave the logs to dry it's been almost 3 months that they've been drying is it about a year I need?

If you know what lumber you need, then you should mill it asap. The smaller the lumber you mill, the sooner it will dry. Now, as far as dry time, it depends. Some people are ok with framing with green lumber. I think it's ok too as long as some sheeting or bracing gets put up so that the 2x4s don't twist on you while they continue to dry. If you want to dry first, I'd say 3 to 6 months seems good for 2x4s. Thanks 🙂
