Milling Cherry on the Wood Mizer LT35HD

We milled these few cherry logs a week or so ago. A little fun turned to a mistake around the 16 minute mark. Most of us have been there. It was just my time I guess. Then of course the battery dropped out just before we wrapped it up.

I bought a Wood Mizer LT35HD a couple months ago. My wife and I love working with this together. She loves running the cuts too. I have made lots of rookie mistakes, but other than a couple blades, we haven't hurt anything. Gets better ever time. Thanks for your videos, we both enjoy watching another couple play with the machine.

rustynails113 sounds like you guys are on your way. Mistakes happen. We all do it. Usually it costs you a blade, and that's it. Mybwifes likes running the mill as well, but just haven't recorded her doing so. Enjoy, and keep watching. I'm sure I will be adding more videos soon.

i have repaired the inside of homes many times .. the cost of some home renovations is very costly .. when i first started doing renovations .. i had to figure it out as i went .. i knew how to paint a house .. really well because i took my time doing it .. i got pretty good at repair work inside a home and let me tell you i've seen some pretty wrecked houses in my time that i repaired at a minimum cost to the home owner .. after watching you for awhile .. i kinda figured out that you came about your skill .. the same way i did .. sometimes through trail and error or remembering what someone else told you .. on .. how to accomplish a task .. keep up the great work ..

Great video. We hang a bucket from the chute on ours without the rubber tube and then just dump into wheelbarrow or big trash can. And the. Just wheel it out into sawdust pile. This saves from a big mess on ground where your working. Depending on if it’s in it home in shop or out on job just let it fly.

Hello Steve, and thank you for your question. We usually cut live edge slabs from logs that have a crotch that will show amazing grain patterns in the wood. Most of the logs we sawed into timbers in this video, had quite a few branch nubs that would leave knots in the boards, making for lower quality. For the ash, we are trying for clear lumber. Or at least as clear as we can get. Timbers with knots will stay straight, where.boards would most likely twist at the knots. If I was looking for rustic lumber, at 8/4 for farm tables and such, the small knots would be fine. With all the ash trees during, due to the emerald ash borer, we are trying to save as much of the wood as we can. That Wood Mizer will come one day. Keep working towards it, and make it yours.

We sell by the board foot. The price on these is lower due to the length. Grade length is about 7'. If you Google rough milled lumber prices for your region, you should find some good info. We are in southeastern PA. Stay current on pricing. They do vary, and you want to be fair to your customers, and yourself.

We get our logs from all sorts of sources. Many of them have been dragged through mud and rocks. It gets driven into the bark. We use a stiff bristle wire brush to clear it out of the bark. We have a debarker, but the rocks are so bad sometimes, you have to clear them out by hand.
