What happened to the habitat that now is not there that was deep water because of the dam ,or with the remove of material did it maintain a lake/pond with steps to slowly letting water down to below the dam steam level ??

There was no deep water left. Sediment has settled behind the dam. Beavers will provide deep-water once established.
