I can not wait until the polson logging #2 comes to the A&E and joins the 205!!
up untill a short while ago i used to take care of all the radios for Frank Lumber, Freres Lumber, & A&E. I took care of the remote system on 2501 and a few others for Rick Franklin. I miss those times for sure.
Wake up honey, Pacific Rail posted

Thank you Dan🙏🏻
Love the color scheme of green and yellow!
Gotta say props to the A&E for using their steam locomotive for freight use, I can't imagine it's much of a money maker but it's just so neat to see one in revenue service

You’re right; it’s usually a one man crew, and the steamer requires a whole group. A&E thinks differently than the class 1s!
Great videography!!! Love the content as I grew up in Stayton. My Granddad farmed in N. Santiam, his farm just north of the Shelburn - Mill City branch crossing the river going to Shaw. We used to watch the Snow Peak Logger -- skeleton cars with cheese blocks and big Doug Fir. I pulled Green Chain at Frank Lumber in 1969 / 1970 summer work going to Engineering School. My brother was the Mill Wright at Frank. Great scenes and memories.... Thanks you!!!!

Very cool! I appreciate you sharing that. You lived the Oregon lumber tradition! Those were tough men in that industry! Thanks again!
Love the sgort lines! Not so much the remote control or the FRED'S would rather the caboose and full crew's but I'm olx school 😊
Jeremy, welcome back! Thanks for putting together another informative video. As a huge fan of the A&E I enjoyed it very much, especially the footage of the 205. I occasionally wander out through Crabtree and up to Mill City just because the drive's gorgeous and relaxing, and I gotta say a little sad now with the reload at Crabtree closed. I'm always thinking of these short line operators and how they have to deal with the constant changes in the forest products industry ( The closing of Interfor's operations in Philomath a perfect example...) and hope they'll find ways to hang in there. Anyway, thanks again for your hard work; I know it represents a huge time commitment on your part! I'm looking forward to the next installment.

Those are spot on thoughts about the dynamic forest industry. True it’s changing a lot. I hate seeing the closures. Man I’m glad for the bits I’m able to see and share. Thanks for the support buddy! I will get the next one out soon. Good to hear from ya!
Excellent coverage of the most scenic part of the A&E. Of course, who doesn’t love the 205.
BNSF also ran in Lebanon for a short time before selling it off
Nice video, Jeremy! Thanks for posting.
great video sir 👌👌❤❤
Another amazing video Jeremy
Great video.
DO love this vid and I do believe Albany and East Rail and P & W is the last one left to still pull logs to the mill in the US maybe there is still one more line that still pulls logs, the log cars here are 50 years old a lot of them are from the mid 60's.
They got two steamers i think now. Polson 2-8-2 no.2 thats was previously at oregon coast scenic was also bought
Way to kick off another season of great content! The A&E is my favorite shortline. Too bad they aren't shipping logs anymore, do you know why not?

I’m not sure at the moment, but I know the log shipping business has been drying up. Teevin Terminal in Rainier has quit shipping logs. It’s really too bad. CBRL still ships logs out of Coos Bay I think; as of last year when I was there.
Welcome Back!!! You have been missed. Glad I saw this pop up. So since you are a railroader, how does a Frank's Lumber request center beam cars to load and how do they arrange for their shipment to their customer via the railroad network? I would be very curious to get an explanation on how that works.

Good question! That’s one that I haven’t heard asked I think. A customer will have an agreement with the shipper in a contract to promise a predetermined number of cars will be available to them. The railroad will work with the shipping department to order cars. In A&E’s case, they have many home-owned cars that are always scheduled to be returned to Albany when the loaded car has been emptied. If need be, A&E will work with UPs car ordering department to bring additional cars as needed such as TTZX centerbeams for FRANK lumber. To ensure the customer always has what they need, some cars like the ones set out at GRIGGS and LYONS, are set out and ready to be used. When these get ordered, more requests are made as needed for additional rolling stock should the company need more than their home-owned cars can handle. I’m not an expert on this, but this is my understanding as best as I can say. Thanks for the question.
