On this day 10 years ago, our very first album called “Sadnecessary” was released in Germany. It’s hard to wrap our heads around everything that’s happened since. We toured the world, made a living from what we love most, and got to meet all you beautiful people. We’re thankful to have built this community together. Here’s to the next 10 years!
This is a song that’ll forever be dear to our hearts. Please enjoy this lyric video that the Indonesian animation studio Kolam Susu created for our debut single “Stolen Dance.”
“We are very honored when asked to create a lyric video celebrating the 10th anniversary of the Sadnecessary Album, especially after our previous collaboration with Milky Chance making Fairytale animated lyric video.
Initially, I saw that everyone who listened to Stolen Dance actually has their own special meaning of this song, which varies for each person. To endorse the spirit of interpretation, we created the visuals to be abstract and surreal, for the audience to interpret the story by themselves. Stolen Dance would not be complete without featuring a depiction of ‘dance’. The dances are interpreted through all the visual and dynamic that intertwines along with the music.
We have been seeing this video as a way of celebration, thus we try to have fun by doing what we never tried before; like holding a small dance session which we translated into rotoscope animation in the lyric video. In the studio, we are used to creating things that are story-based, so exploring things visually was a really fun process.
We feel lucky to be part of the Milky Chance’s journey on their 10th Anniversary. I hope for a great journey ahead for both of us! Special thanks to Milky Chance and my team at Kolam Susu Studio!”

This song was what I listened to to help me study back in highschool I remember my headphones broke one day, a rough day where I really need led to relax. I let my music play on medium in the class as soon as the teacher left. I heard someone mutter to their friend but they weren't upset, everyone worked on the material while the song played on repeat. The teacher came back and got me to stop the music, but after the class was over some kids came up to me; asking what the songs name was. I happily told them "Stolen Dance by Milky Chance" - I loved how it sounded too, sounded funny. People who never talked to me before started greeting me, and they kept on greeting me all year round. Where my own friends made plans in front of me, I was always asking "when"-"where" excitedly, but got no responses. But, this one song got 3 people in my class to constantly greet me, then their friends greeted me every once in a while. Even if it was shallow, this song gave me a lot of support and love through indirect means. From the bottom of my heart, thank you for making masterpieces Clemen You and the rest of Milky Chance will be loved for years to come in ways you will never know.
