Cody, I'm glad you made this video. I feel like there's been this debate about wooden vs milk crate racks for years. Number one thing people need to do is not underestimate the power even consumer canister shells have. They can blow a rack apart.
I had a Cato with a Hk Harry salute ball shell on a 40 shot wooden rack . I Rachet strapped the center of the entire rack and when it catoed no wood or tubes flew . The strap held it all together . It was crazy how well the strap helped. At every club shoot I now use a ratchet strap around my racks

So you strapped it in the center between the top and bottom 1X4's where you can see the tubes exposed cause there is no 1X4 there correct? I'm doing this for sure. It still seems like th 1x4's would blow out. Were you using HDPE or fiberglass tubes?

@@bigmacfullerton7870 the middle where there is no 1x4 but I wouldn’t tighten it too much because that can cause the tubes to warp . Just enough to stop the tubes from flying out . Btw I attended a PGI fireworks training class yesterday and asked about using ratchet straps and they said it’s probably not the best idea because those straps are not made of cotton and can catch on fire. While I agree, it still saved the tubes from flying out and causing chaos

Appreciate the testing and showing the deviation I learned the hard way about the small shell in big tube result a couple of years ago
Working on building racks and this answered some questions I had. Thanks!
Thanks for the safety tips. With racks I try to remember, it only needs to work once. If it malfunctions, I might be the only one who notices.

Pro racks are used repeatedly, because display companies generally do more than one show, ever. A rack built for July this year can be reused for July next year, New Year's Day, etc.

Really good educational video. This could actually save someone's life.
outstanding demo well worth the watch 10/10
Bro that salute shell was just insane
Wow that’s crazy how those shells went every were never put one upside down in the rack thanks buddy for the video 🤙👍💯😎
Safety vids are really important….keep up the good work. I saw one guy wrap tie down strips(the ones with rackets, that are used for strapping down loads on vehicles) and weaved it around the outside of the milk crates.
I used to shoot professionally for about 10yrs. Maybe 8 shows a year. Every so often people would double load a tube. I usually shot 3 and 4in. Anyway some asshat double loaded peanut shells. So 4 shells in a 4in rack. I was standing 5ft away when it went off. Never ran so fast in my life! Blew the rack apart and ignited other shells. As i ran lit starts blew past me. It was nuts!
Had to be shown for all the new pyros coming in this year
Excellent, as with other comments, please do more safety-focused videos. Thanks for sharing!
Hey Cody thanks again for taking my super dumb idea LOL about what if a shell wasn't loaded all the way down inside of the mortar for this awesome video! I liked how you showed what happened when the shell was loaded about a quarter way down the mortar tube.
Cody sir. You have the funniest run I've ever seen... haha thanks for the content brother!
I wanna see more of this type of video. I am a fan of random demolition.
Cody great safety vid 👍🏼 make one on how to clean your mortar tubes what to get tools wise that would be dope
you have amazing vids, keep it up !!!!!
So you answered my question about putting a small shell in a larger tube.
Loved the educational video. Very interesting
Can't wait for the firework shopping and tours. 😁
This man just demolished 2 of his favorite milk crates... you better push that Subscribe button!
Thank you I learn something new 🙏
Im glad you did this with Fiberglass tubes instead of PVC tubes lol…
I always tell helpers to act like its a rifle and use muzzle discipline. Never put a body part over a tube.
This was fantastic,
Dude, thank you for this. I got the cat Kong shit show and the ball shells seems to be a hair smaller than the cannister shells. I don't have any DR9s laying around so I was worried about loading them in my dr11s. But I did discover if you can fuse timely, you can have the shells break at different elevations to give a deeper visual experience.
Tremendously informative video 👍
Interesting to see it doesn't make a huge difference when double stacked in the rack. Though I've personally seen better results when the racks are spaced and or single row. Had a finale pod with a tube detonate, while yes it did throw 4-5 tubes the majority of the 40-50 stayed in place.
that was so cool i can’t believe that the carts exploded
I love your videos
Great video.
Super glad you've done a video on this, thanks for blowing shit up s'more
Cody you should try making your own tube mabey?? If you do be careful

Informative video👊👍
Great video
Last 4th of july I had a holy nishiki blow up in an 18 shot spread out mega rack from longacre and it blew up the entire rack. Couldn't find the wood anywhere and found a handful of HDPE tubes the following morning. That really changed my perception on racks being safer.
@ebsa123123

It will blow apart it's just wood only alternative is not to use a rack and space the tubes out and screw them on
Another one for the pyro books 🧨 📚
No hdpe tube where harm in making of this video 😂😂😂😂😂😂 this some entertainment experience lol
One firework myth I've always been paranoid about is when you load a new shell into a tube you just fired out of while it's still smoking and hot. Will the shell go off early? Do you need to wait for the tube to cool off? How many shells do you have to repeatedly load into that same tube until it's too dangerous to put in another shell?

I usually tip my racks over cause there's always left over ashes in there and little cardboard pieces and when I want to reuse my rack I make sure to scrape any leftover ash that sticks on the sides to keep using in the future
Love this!! I would love more experiment / safety type videos!
Wow so cool omg 😲
Hey if you come across skysong mad Max canister shells buy them. I've never had a can make my ears ring just from the launch till today
What about doing the same thing except 1 rack with spacers and 1 rack with the tube touching?? I build all my racks with spacers because I like to think that with the extra space it might not blow apart the rack and keep the other tube aiming up. I also have a small screw from the bottom of the rack into the plug again in hopes that if that ever happens the mortars stay towards the sky.
@CodyBPyrotechnics

I really wanted to try that too in this video but unfortunately I don’t have any racks that have spacers :/
Thank you for the video! ☺♥☼
Hey Cody, I’ve been watching you for a while on a separate account and love your informative vids. And I wanted to suggest another canister shell video because they are the bomb! And I bought 5in jaw breakers but couldn’t enjoy them do to other fireworks drowning them out. Thanks for reading!
Thanks Cody, I really appreciate the testing. Granted both racks were obliterated, but, only one HDPE tube was destroyed as opposed many more of the fiberglass tubes.
Please do more of these! If you want, you gotta set off 100 Excaliburs in a refrigerator one day to see if those would blow it apart. That would be such a good fucking video! 💣🥴

We’ve successfully fired 3 four inch canister shells out of a 15” DR11 however I do not recommend trying it because it’s 50/50 when it works
2 months till 4th of July My mind is just stressing on how much fireworks I wanna but can’t Wait any longer let’s Go Pyro Addicts🔥🧨🧨😂💥
Yeah I was lighting Excalibur's one night and one of the shells we loaded in we didn't hear it touch the bottom of the tube and we lit it and boom the whole rack exploded and the worst part is that we were only about 5-7 feet away from the rack. Some of the effect it was a palm hit my leg which hurt and the sound was really loud to the point we're it was ringing your ears. And the shrapnel was insane it sent wood pieces all the way in our neighbors yard. Yeah it was bad. So u made sure it never happened again and I looked out to make sure they would hit the bottom of the tube ever since. But the tube did hold up since it was a Excalibur tube but it was still a goner.
Which Roman candles do you reccomend
that is actually a pretty cool shirt. its straight to the point but isnt overboard either, ya know?
Great job!! Excellent comparison! Only thing I would add / change is just load a can right side up, but without the lift charge. Basically what you did with the shell upsidedown. Squibs happen and I am so glad you put it on video to prove HDPE can be just as dangerous as fiberglass tubes. Great job!

I have a fiberglass tube that was only used twice...I looked inside it and it looks like there is a nail or staple sticking up out of the cement plug somehow. These tubes in this kit were all kind of crap condition brand new. I imagine I shouldn't use that tube because it could puncture the shell right?

It would be awesome if you took a wood rack and then Rachet strapped it down around the tubes between the 1x4s then blow it up to see if the straps will help hold everything together.
FOR SCIENCE! ☝🏼
0:45 oh I already found that out

It’s happened and it can kill you for sure
I curious how many people has done that and had that happen while in the middle of a show because I can say I had two of them happen a low shot and a blow out
So what do you prefer? Fiberglass for convenience and price or hdpe tubes for durability.
Good demo. They may be ‘fireworks’ but they are also explosives 1.4. Don’t be careless.
I hope you don’t mind me asking, but what state do you live in where you can light off fireworks year round? I would love to know!

Had a shell blow in a 6 shot rack hdpe it swelled the tube but the rack was fine didn’t split just chipped sum of the wood where the tube was. Think it makes a difference but idk nice video tho

Seems like that would be more down to the pressure the pipe was rated for than the rack type, since their pipe split but yours only swelled

what size tube did you use that was to large was that a 2 inch or a 3 inch
It even striped all permanent off the plastic or salfuff lol
Would like to see this experiment but with actual HDPE tubes in the crates
Thank you for doing this. I've been asking to see a comparison for a while. While I do recognize a sturdy wooden rack is going to be the best option, I don't hate on milk crates. Everyone starts somewhere and no matter the rack the only real safety is distance.
How many shots do you think those tubes are good for? I've never reused them before very curious

The bottom line is that ANY rack can fail. The only way to make sure there is nothing catastrophic is to maintain enough distance. Fireworks can fail. You just have to mitigate the risks.
This was a pretty interesting video for science purposes. Thanks for the destruction.
EARLYY!!
I'm so glad you did this. Maybe everyone will shut up now. I wish you used the fiberglass tubes in the wood or both hdpe in the crate for a fair comparison. The milk crate is hdpe and until you did the salute, it just split it, no shrapnel. I'd rather have some light pool plastic flying at me that plywood and screws
Haters gonna hate. Lol.
We need many MANY more Mythbusters type stuff for fireworks......and if anyone has ever wondered, two 5" shells lit at the same time will definitely and completely blow apart a box of medical "covid" masks to smithereens..
Great video
