And your inflatable will get punctured in more rugged stuff if that is all you have. The Iso Mat is not the same as sleeping on the cold dirt/CONCRETE. I used the Iso Mat in the Marines, Army, train hopping and being homeless...it works effeciently, all this dude is doing is carrying more weight
That isomat isn’t terrible amazing sleep I’ve gotten in the field while occasionally rolling off of them
You need less sugar in your diet.

Maybe too much coffee. That would make sleeping difficult
I was told to trim the sleeping pad to fit inside the bivy cover under the sleeping bag liner of choice with the MSS. So bivy/pad/bag/ you inside all of it. You cant roll off the pad and it stays right under you the entire night, also stays dry and clean inside the bivy which translates to warm and cozy. Works with almost all the military pads even the inflatables and most aftermarket pads as long as you dont get to crazy large. If you keep the top folded over once and let your calves use the ground you can have a very thin pillow. Not much pressure on your legs so they dont press to hard into the ground.
Army mortarmen here, I took an inflatable mattress to every field. Learned that from my platoon Sgt. Figured I needed to do something to offset the damage to my back the mortar was causing 😂
Problem is time. Air pads take too long to deflate and pack up. The folding pads break down in seconds.
I just ordered a used one of these on eBay for $20. I plan on using it outside of my hammock system to stand on as I suffer from extremely painful diabetic neuropathy and need something between the ground and my stocking feet when getting out of the hammock. I was planning on cutting it down but after watching this video may just double it up for more padding. Either way I would never think of sleeping on this if I was still a dirt hugger.
Your back pain is not service connected
compared to a much better option, yes these are terrible alone, but compared to nothing at all, i think of these as just, way better than sleeping on hard ground, especially on the beach, oh man. it's heaven after a long day bushcrafting, hiking, gathering resources, processing firewood, preparing food etc.. if it's a beach towel, you can sleep on the sand, but adding the thin pad makes that particular situation 10x better. mostly i do the same as you do bro 👍be safe man
Semper Fi, I arrived at 29 stumps in September 1977 for ITR. I remained an 0311 until I finished Grad school. We had no sleeping pads at all until 92. By the time I retired in 04 I slept in the field in a proper rack, 😆.

Reserves? I bet you got some stories
THANK YOU! Almost bought one.
Worst part is therm-a-rest makes better lighter foam sleeping pads with way better thermal ratings all the way up to 3 1/2 seasons. The military is purposely getting a crappy one.
its not meant for comfort, its meant to insulate you from the ground. Also, What happened to this channel. Just stopped posting vids out of nowhere 3yrs ago.
This is so Much better than the isomat though, it’s a lot quicker than rolling foam
That is even thinner than the POS that I was issued in 1988! It had 3/8 of an inch thickness an marginally better than yours. I like the static v on top of the foam pad.

Your POS was the same type of POS I was issued in 2001 if Im not mistaken...and its not bad. Inflatables can get punctured. The one he is showing may be tougher material. I was in the Corps, Army, a freight train hopper and then homeless and I used the same USGI Iso Mat and gortex bivy sack and I swear by it...unless i can find a foam mat that folds more narrow.
The standard German army is 0.2 inches thick
wonderful video. looks comfortable. what's your height and weight by the way? keep up the good work
This guy is an officer by now, sleeping like a king compared to the grunts.
Thank you!
Sleep is soooo important. I remeber some of my best naps in the back of a crowded and moving LAV in 100+ °fF bc we were so spent. All in all, good review. I do remember Marines getting the thicker foam iso-mats and even inflatable ones too. Mostly the E-6s and up bc they were mean old bastards and could do whatever they wanted 🤣.
I like sleeping on rug.
How do you even fit that mat inside your rucksack? It looks way too large.

Its supposed to be strapped outside
What is you're workout regime?
dude go back to the old rubber bitches. then therma rest self inflating. BUT they will always fail in use.. the old roll up isomat was great.
Why would you need sleep?
Can I buy one
Was pretty comfy back in my day. Maybe us older guys were just built different back then.
STAY OFF THE CRACK BRO
