Just want to say I was there too (Dave Soldier), I just turned 17 but was going to the Shaboo since 15! Thank you Dave Liebman, this concert truly changed my life. He was booked for 3 nights, played 2, I saw them both, and I'm the guy with the frizzy hair in the lower left in the jacket. It is just as I remembered after all these years except you can hear Dave much better on this tape than where I was staning, it was indeed. aloud band. And I think there were not many more than 50 people there, the concerts started maybe 4 hours late. And were long as you can hear her! Abstolutely astonishing music.

Personally I think this era of Miles' work is his greatest. Nothing like it in the history of music.

I'm with you on that. I was attracted by this period, and I wasn't averse to the sound. My Favorite music of Miles' however...is the HOT LAVA of 1969-70!! It BIRTHED FUSION,😊😊😊!! But the Funk Ensemble Period? -- oh, man, I hear MOUNTAINS, OCEANS & Galaxies...and future, post-classic R+B. Miles was THE GENIUS, right? Musician magazine called him 'the Greatest of Them All.' Yeah.

It was loud! The night was cold! I'm totally amazed that this recording survived into posterity. I'm sitting in the audience, the one with the long hair to the right of the guy sitting in front of the drummer (my college roommate, who thought it sucked)

That is incredible...I had just turned 6 years old and was living a few miles away...completely unaware

I saw this group at Pauls Mall in Boston in 73 and 74, and at Keystone Korner in 74 and 75, and had seen an earlier version of this band in the SF Bay Area in 72 and 73 before that. I liked them better when they were on the East Coast (like this)! This is a very focused sounding date, Miles sounding strong. As time goes by, I'm more and more in awe of Al Foster, without whom this band could never have been a stable unit for years behind Miles -- he works harder than anyone and is so industrious, basically creating new kinds of beats just to get the feel Miles demands.

I wish you guys would knock it off with all these "I was there comments"!!! Making me so jealous. I did getto see him in London 84 onwards but 73 -75 Miles and band are operating on/in another dimension. Boston 73 & Sao Paolo 74 are pretty cool listens but I guess you were there too! Ugh. On paper I don't think this band should have worked....but it did!

@@paulklein6337 I know just how you feel! I've never gotten over finding out about Miles too late to hear him during my fave period (1970) and so envy those who saw those famous dates that year like the Fillmores or Tanglewood etc ...

@@sirqitous I had a ticket to see Miles in Barcelona in the autumn of '73 and guess what? He didn't show. I think the band had problems at the border with Franco's police. I've never really got over it!

@@GOGOLH Sorry to hear that! Hope you didn't drive far or go to great expense for nothing! My secret is I listened to Miles' 1990 Waikiki Shell concert from the outside lawn (didn't pay to get in as I was afraid of being heartbroken like I was the last time in 1975 at Keystone Korner when he was unwell and the band struggled with it). But he and the band that day in 1990 were fantastic, and we met friends afterwards who'd been inside to describe how he looked, etc. Apparently Miles appeared cheerful, relaxed and talked to the audience through the mic on his trumpet, complete awesome change of outfit for the 2nd set, etc. So then I never saw him (again) and grieved a lot when he died a little over a year later.

You are already on the stage when you listen to this. You can even experience the fear of being yelled at by Miles on stage! "Don't play that sxxt!!"

Pete Cosey is one of my favorite guitarists, I always try to find more of his playing, and I've never heard this bootleg before. Thanks

wow, i guess miles was road-testing the band in a small club before hitting larger venues (which he usually did). what a treat!! i know miles was hip to Hendrix, Sly, James Brown, Funkadelic, but i wonder if he ever got hip to Fela Kuti?

One of those heads of curly black hair is mine...not sure which one. The Yamaha amps were some of the worst sounding I've ever heard! Diabolically harsh. Miles was great, as you can hear. Loved Liebman, too. Brutally loud, but great!
