Carlos would you please please please please please please please make a jazz album something by the way of stevie Ray Vaughn's Lenny. I am so pissed Jimi never left us any jazz I know he had in him. Carlos, brother please even if you don't release it right away please leave it for us after you are gone. But, Carlos as your biggest fan, please leave us some of that jazz from your lead latino soul. If you don't mind when you make your jazz album please make a Hendrix song he would have made. THank you Carlos, I love you.

I met Carlos on a flight from New York to San Francisco around 1998. (I like to believe after meeting with Clive Davis about "Super Natural"). I was standing in a galley between 1st Class and economy class, I knew who he was and I stepped aside to let him pass through to his 1st class seat but he wasn't seated in 1st. He was just walking through the plane to stretch (he was seated in economy) He spoke to me (In Spanish ...cool!) for about 5 minutes passing on some his spirituality, some of his wisdom. I knew of him (my older brother would play him I was 28 yrs old at the time) but when I was listening to him talk I became a huge fan. I could feel the kindness his soul exudes. I never forget those few minutes. We would have continued to talk but a flight attendant called me away from him, she told me a band member wanted me to leave him alone. I told her no worries he had approached me and turned back hoping to continue listening to his wisdom but he had returned to his seat......F#ck! Today with OUR crazy world we need MORE Carlos Santana....prayers for the USA! VIVA MEXICO!

I am a musician and the one thing I learned from Miles is that true music does not come from you it only flows through you from the creator. You have to learn how to open yourself up to this music, Most musicians think it is them playing but the great ones know you go into a zone in a great solo . Miles said never play the same solo twice and never play the same as you do in practice. You just have to connect with the creator.

Hey, you just put into words what I learned the first time I saw live at El Mocambo SRV. I could SEE that "he" wasnt playing it, it was like he was just letting it come THROUGH him. Funny thing, is people attribute that to Satan. The old sold my soul at the crossroads thing, thats BS, I think a great musician must "graduate" at some point. At that point they are playing whats coming through them not from them. God bless.

Robert Fripp follows the same path - a little more rigid, planned, and British, but he understands that music of the Spirit only happens when a musician plays while free from the last and unconcerned about the future, and 100% present in the Now and that’s It.

Carlos seems like one of the genuinely nicest guys in the world. The guy is pure love. I think a lot of people who knew him felt that way. He's a lovely guy who loves people and loves music. He is also an incredibly insightful guy, which isn't surprising when you think about how much he loves people. When you see how much he loves people, it makes sense when you hear how observant he was and how he noticed little qualities in people that made them unique and special. Miles Davis was an absolute creative genius and a very weird dude. Aside from being an absolute genius musician, Miles seems like someone who was absolutely obsessed with creating something incredible. The guy was obsessed with finding the best jazz musicians in the country, convincing them to play together, and then driving them compulsively to play something new and creative. He drove incredibly creative musicians to push themselves to create something that they didn't even know they could create. He set a very high bar, and his bands produced some of the most creative, innovative and beautiful music of the 20th century.

Europa has a half diminished minor second and a fifth chord voiced as a dominant seventh. Carlos Santana's guitar playing has many critics in the jazz world. Miles Davis loved his playing because he has a strong ear for good melodies. Herbie Hancock and Wayne Shorter seem to agree. Love Of My Life , featuring Dave Matthews on vocals , has a guitar melody that follows the changes and in a classic jazz tradition, Carlos borrowed a classical composers melody for inspiration. He paraphrases the melody from J. Brahms , Symphony number 3. The list goes on of songs such as, Yours Is The Light from Welcome, and Oye Como Va from Abraxes, where he plays changes in a clear and consistent way . I am very thankful for Carlos' beautiful and clear approach. His guitar sound was imitated by just about everyone in the early seventies who was playing on the West Coast of The United States and that is a compliment. I tried playing like Carlos for a while and it is difficult to make that tone sound good without overplaying notes in your solo. The tone places you out front and you have to place the notes in the right place in the measure.
