Miles Chamley-Watson HIGHLIGHTS - American World Champion 🥇

Спорт

Foil fencing highlights for Miles Chamley-Watson, the first ever men's foil world champion for the United States, team world champion, and team Olympic bronze medalist in Rio for team USA.
A lot of highlights have been made with Miles' unique infighting touches and other cool trickshots, but with this I wanted to highlight a bit more the foundations behind the crazy hits.
Here are some clips showing the speed, the timing, the power, and the strong tactical / bout IQ that reliably gets Miles touches. (there are also still a few trickshots of course haha 😉)
Enjoy the video! 🔥🔥🔥 let me know your thoughts down below!

While I don't think his "showmanship" did the American reputation any favors on the international stage, I have always admired the undeniable qualities that made him an undisputed World Champion: Incredible world-class athleticism and problem-solving creativity mixed with incredibly reliable advanced technique that was/is unique and inimitable. Most importantly, Miles is a role-model for self-advocacy and confidence which is something you really need to be a successful sportsman in a room full of doubters and subjective refereeing sports, really in any venture in life. He never backs down, he never doubts in his ability, he never apologizes for being himself. That is why he has been able to market himself successfully outside of fencing and inspire a generation of young (especially African-American) fencers to overcome the "underdog" mentality of this sport. His recent years' results may not have been able to keep up with the evolution of the competition, but neither was Aldo Montano. I think the world put too much pressure on him, fencing really isn't the sport for pseudo-celebrity, you can't dominate forever as an individual like you can in Fútbol or Golf. The rules of fencing sport change every 4-8 years, the timing changes, and when you're on top, people study you night & day and evolve specifically to counter your style. Nobody stays on top in fencing when the refereeing is impartial, that's the inherent fairness of the sport. But once a champion, ALWAYS a champion. I will forever respect and admire Miles and what he has done for himself and others on the come-up in fencing.

When he's not contorting himself like 4 snakes in a trenchcoat, he's striking from outer space, and always accurately. Wow.
