All of the supporting characters on Gunsmoke were individually unique and were the best of any TV show!

Gunsmoke is my favorite “series”. I watch reruns everyday, and the actors and dialogue are outstanding. Doc was cantankerous, but a good soul. Thanks for posting!

Yes he will, Doc's character was so unique, The bond he had with Matt was almost father son like, The way him and Festus and Chester would go at it and of course Kitty loved him very much, Doc will always be my favorite character on Gunsmoke.

I met him when I was about 8 or 9 in Port Author Texas (1958-9). He came to town to help a charity to take donations. Still remember it! Now, where did I put my reading glasses two minutes ago?

He was meant to play Doc in Gunsmoke. Perfect fit for that role. And the laughs from him and Festus were epic.

I wonder how many know he was also a Doctor with the Marine Raiders on Maiken Island in 1942. A wounded Japanese Officer was recovering consciousness and saw Doc treating a wounded Marine. He was pulling out his pistol to shoot Doc in the back. A wounded young Robert Mitchum had been shot in the throat and lost his voice. He couldn't warn Doc. He was able to pull his Kabar knife out and throw it striking the enemy in the back. Killing him. A startled Milburn Stone looked back and saw what happened. He gave Bob Mitchum his best gesture and nod of appreciation. That was in the movie "Gung Ho"!

If he don't wipe his hand across his mouth, it ain't Doc! Doc was one of my all time very favorites. He had "cantankerous sarcasm" down to an art.

My question is "why does Milburn, always keep rubbing his damn face n ears, is it a nervous condition? That shit gets on my nerves...I believe if the cast betted he could keep his hands off his face, he would definitely loose, big time!!!#keepyourhandsouttayourface

Good grief. If condition don't maybe say that because you wouldn't want same. I went through years of sudden onset after nothing ever wrong where would lose a bet couldn't not itch and have to touch face. Never bothered me watching show? You really never know if there's a cause or if character but there are things or conditions we can acquire or blood work may explain. I still baffled Dermatologist though. Lol I think when older changes can happen and he was about my age when show started.
