As a life-long Cowboys fan this is probably the best NFL interview I've ever watched. The man is truly an inspiration.

Mike Singletary is the reason I played Linebacker ever since 7th grade all through high school; my absolute favorite player of time.

Check this out I was 7th grade same jr high that Mike was attending but he at the time was 9th grade and he was playing offensive left tackle we had to go over and watch the 9th graders and that's the first time I saw Mike I lost track of Mike because he went on to worthing high and I didn't realize who he was and what happened to him was when he went to Baylor and of course he's a hall of famer and I'm wrapping up my career as a truck driver

I was born and raised in a Green Bay Packer household, but I always respected Mike Singletary and Walter Payton. Always thought they were immensely talented and class acts.

Theirs a reason why the middle linebacker is called the Mike linebacker, Mike Singletary changed the game forever.

I saw him once in a Dallas airport. He was on my flight and I couldn’t even speak to him. Because, well, he still looked scary. But as a born and raised Chicagoan, he was the main part of my sports childhood. Truly respect him.

Was a Walter Payton fan. And Dick Butkus. How can anyone not like The '84 and '85 Bears. I'm a Raider fan. That whole 1980's was great.

I love you Mike Singletary! That 85 Bears team is my favorite team ever! You are a great person and your approach towards life is totally inspirational. You are the best Mr. Singletary! Thanks for all the great Bears memories and thank you for this great interview. Joe Buck you are a class act as well my friend

Maybe the best 4-3 defense in history, although those late '60s and early '70s Chiefs were also right up there, back in the days when a 13-6 Super Bowl was entirely possible. I think the Dick Lebeau Steelers defenses were right up there, too. In the '70s, they had something great that they kept together. In the 2000s, they reloaded, but never had to rebuild. As a Chiefs fan, those Steeler defenses were a thing of beauty, when the played other teams. You could see the base threats, Polamalu could do anything, and Lebeau always had guys on the d-line who could drop in short zone to take away the hots while Lebeau got a free blitzer off the edge. You had to plan on 5 coming, but you never knew which 5 or 6 or 3 it would be.

I always felt like Mike Singletary was the guy I'd fight for as a player. His character on and off the field has always been one of dignity and leadership.

Those who can do ....those who can't teach sounds like he came from a family core of doers not one too sit on the sidelines

This man made the game great. His character and work ethic are second to none and most of the NFL today should look at this man as an example of how to be and how to play the game.

@@stevenyates4535 please in 1986 the Giants were waiting for the Bears in the NFC CHAMPIONSHIP after they crushed the 49ers 49 to 3. UNFORTUNATELY the Bears were handled by the Redskins at home and the Giants never got to give the Bears the severe ass whipping they deserved. Giants won that Super Bowl and another super bowl in 1990. The Bears? WERE NEVER HEARD FROM AGAIN.

The Bears likely would have l won the Super Bowl in 86 if McMahon is not slammed on his shoulder by the DL from the packers late in the season.

@@markreaves5698 it was the Giants year who had home field advantage and Ditka went with Doug Flutie for the playoff game vs Washington which was a miserable performance by the Bears. Things were falling apart and McMahon or no McMahon they weren't going into Giant Stadium and beating the 17-2 Giants in Giant stadium. Nice story you got there though.

Really wonderful of Mr. Singletary to talk about Buddy Ryan and how a young immature guy learned to forgive Buddy and his real Dad.

I sat behind him in 1982 in a Marketing class at Baylor. He had finished his 1st or 2nd year with the Bears. He was a very nice man. I did get an autograph

He should be the next Bears head coach. If not, D coordinator. To win it all this Bears team will need true love in the building. With the McCaskey's at top, Mike is one of the only coaches that can give us that. Poles can handle the roster, he may in fact be a young prodigy at this point (I could make the argument he's batting 1000 at roster construction). All we need is a coaching staff.

Short story: As a kid I had anger issues and football allowed me to vent (so to speak). Went into the Military and through test and interviews a doctor encouraged me to write down my anger rather than act it out and his suggestion save my life and I've been doing it for years. In fact writing cause problems at times with family members because when someone angered me I'd write down crap that others accidently read and to this day a few still do not like me EVEN though I tried to explained to them I wrote what i said anger....LOL.... Sometimes we just can't win

Singletary is my all time favorite Bear! He embodies everything it means to be a Bear.

I watched Mike's whole career. Born and raised in the city of Chicago. A true die hard. I don't care what anybody says about it but that was the greatest defense to ever play the game. And still many ranked them at that high of a level. As I look at my beloved boys now we need Singletary running the show. We had a chance to jump on Harbaugh, yet Mike still sits awaiting greatness again. I don't know what it would actually take, but Mike, the Bears need ya. Who better, than a man who exemplifies greatness.

I had no idea he was such a great person. Bless you Mike.

I believe it. And I hope Mike gets that next opportunity. What a man.

Would be real interesting seeing him make a run with the Bears as HC

It is very sad that someone cannot see this man as being a great head football coach. If I had a son going to college to play football this is the man I know would get the most out of him on the field and in the classroom. He was a great one.

Samurai Mike! What a fabulous man.

That competitive spirit in the '85 team is what the Bears need back. Especially among the DBs this past year, there was way too much celebrating normal plays instead of getting your head back in the game and focusing on winning the next play.

I so hope that this man gets another head-coaching job in the NFL. When he was still playing, (and this was years before he retired) my father and I were watching a Bears game, and I said "Mike Singletary will make a great head coach. He will be like Vince Lombardi. A no nonsense taskmaster. He takes a 49ers team that was abysmal and takes them to 8-8. The 49ers didn't give him enough time. Mike truly deserves another shot at that gig. If it happens, I really believe he will win it all.

I've been watching pro football for 60 years and have always admired Mike Singletary. There is something special about him

My favorite linebacker. He’s the reason why I played linebacker. He doesn’t get the recognition that he should for how he played that position.

Mr. Singletary is a CLASS ACT on and off the field and one heck of an NFL player. In fact Mr. Singletary (in MY opinion) stood alone in his position and most important, Mr. Singletary was a motivator and displayed intense commitment at his position. Good man, dang good American Citizen, we need more like him.

Mike Singletary was one of the all time great linebackers and a great man.

I was 10 years old the summer of 1985. Living in Chicago's NW suburbs at that time. That team made a huge impression on me at that young age which has lasted a lifetime! We wanted to grow up and be like them! You could feel it in the air here all season! No other team could ever live up to them afterward. Best team ever! The team used to come out to the local high school here and play charity basketball games every year that we would go to, come out and sign autographs for all of us at the local Chevy dealership I (I definitely remember Dan Hampton and Mike being there, and I think Gary Fencik, and "Sweetness!"). The Superbowl Shuffle on VHS at our house was worn out (probably my very first VHS Haha!) ...The Junkyard Dogs and Black and Blues Brothers posters hanging on my bedroom wall! The guys on that team were all my heros! Love from Chicago Mike! Great video Audiorama!

I remember watching the 85 Bears defense. The defense that many think is the best ever. When I think of that defense the image that comes to mind Mike staring at the offense. You knew no one was getting past him.

So inspiring! Despite the clueless denial and betrayal of his dad. How does a man get over that and still have faith? i was blessed with a faithful dad who was Catholic and at 55, it still serves me in virtue. He never gave up on his family, and my heart truly goes out to those who didn’t have that. We can see in Mike Singletary that the Lord is our faithful father to all that believe in him! Amen.

Strength, resiliency, passion, dignity, class, toughness. I could go on and on about Mike Singletary. A great football player and an even greater man.

Butkus and Singletary .... says it all. Pure Heart, Grit and Desire.

What a tremendous leader! Being 13 years old in 1985, the notion of any other team winning the Super Bowl that year was done before midway through that season. It wasn’t just in my head. It seemed the entire world around me knew it as well. We were all Dallas Cowboys fans but understood this much. It was always a joy watching Mike Singletary do his job. The intensity in his eyes and his play was at another level. It was dominant. It has lasted all of these years. Listening to him speak with conviction about where our Father in Heaven wants him to be next, I feel it certain that where ever he may be it will be witnessing the word to us. I sure hope it is. The truth that he speaks with brings understood responsibility and accountability that encourages an uplifted spirit. He is great with his words and wisdom. My thoughts and prayers are for this.

The 49ers, Pats and Steelers had the greatest team dynasties but for one year the 85 Bears was the greatest football team of all time and led by Singletary.

It was the 46 defense, not the 4-6 defense. It didn’t have to do with a formation, but was named for Doug Planck, number 46.

Mike Singletary spoke to the Motorola PCS team ( phones ) back when we had a United Way fundraising drive annually. He was an unbelievable speaker, and it was such a privilege to see him in person speak very much like a few of his stories in this interview. He is an amazing and powerful speaker, and inspiration in addition to what he accomplished on the football field. This is great reminder of those days.

Such a well spoken and intellectual man. Mike was a rock of a linebacker. The intensity just oozes out of him.

An amazing story and inspiration. Shows how important the people in your life are. If you can lift someone up and you won't let them quit, do it. He had some great teachers in his life to teach him about life. Everything and everyone has a purpose.

Man, that early 80's Bears team was magic. The entire season was filled with Bear fever. I do not remember anyone not pulling for them. Seeing Mikes eyes over the front line and yelling out play calls is etched in all our minds. Just a heck of a man. I was 15 years old that year. Thank you for a great interview.

In 83 sweetness made me a bears fan then 85 hit and I wound up being a little linebacker like really little 5'11" 155. But I was intense. because of this man my back up was 6'3" 260 middle of the season they moved him to DE I missed 3 games because of a shoulder injury but finished 3rd on the team in solos. I saw this great man play and I tried to emulate him. Thank you Mr singletary

Mid 80’s Chicago had a lot going on in the sports world. Samurai, MJ, Andre Dawson. I was a Seahawks fan since the 70’s but also a fan of football so when the Bears were on tv in 85 you could feel something special was happening. Good times

I have seen a number of these bios in past couple weeks. Mike , if you see this, I want you to know I was very impressed . Watching you play you reminded me of another super bowl middle line backer …. Mike Curtis . Really central to entire defense and really great example to other 10 men on defense . Impressed by his eloquence, which really is a reflection of his intelligence.

Watching those eyes processing formations etc was the tell. This guy is different. He was a defensive machine.

The Man period

I took an immense interest in Mike when he played for Baylor University in the late 70s (I graduated in 1964). His background was not exactly the best start, but he believed in God and lived his life with that belief. He gave his all on the field, yet was a gentleman off the field. The only player higher than Mike on my list of former Baylor players was Don Trull (who was a good friend at Baylor).

I was five in 1985 so I didn’t watch Mr. Singletary play, I surely knew the name now I know the man and his nothing less than inspirational climb to the top. Also something to be said about the production of this interview and the host, Sr you are a PRO. In the anyone with a smart phone and microphone can have a podcast era some hosts are a shame to watch they are really rude talk over guest and interrupt them constantly they honestly have no business conducting interviews my opinion of course you’re entitled to yours.

Thanks for sharing that Mike! I was a senior in high school during that 85' season growing up in Chicago! What a great experience!

I loved Mike S as the 9ers head coach, Even though we didn't win a ton of games he made that team that Harbaugh took over a tough squad. He was as militant as can be and gave that team character.
