This was a different era.

I loved the mother/son chemistry in this scene with Kirk and Joanna. You could see how much they really did love each other, onscreen and off. That's still true today.

I loved growing up when i did. The show's had good meaning and real stuff that went on in life. We were still able to use common sense and NOT have to always be politically correct. Miss those days

It was a different time back then. People were a lot more ignorant about homosexuality. It wasn't even a gay joke.

Mike was a huge nerd. He didn't even wanna do Rick James nose aerobics with a hot college babe in the coolest bathroom within the 50 mi radius.

No way they could do this today. There would be all kinds of backlash about it not being LGBTQ friendly. Many would be in rage that the show does not have a gay character. If it did they would be upset about by trans and non-binary are not represented. Then if they got a dog they would be upset about why they do not have a gay dog too. He's not gay. Matter of fact he won't kiss no other woman except just his wife. That's why he gets Chelsea Noble become "Kate" and be in alot of his movies.

...ignoring the chance for straight sex, is also making the possibility of pregnancy impossible. Being gay means no chance of a baby being made- that's one of the few advantages the gay people have. I am bisexual but I typically want a girlfriend anyway!

Exactly. On an overpopulated dying planet, we need more gays and people who are childfree by choice. There is no "superior" lifestyle/orientation but both have pros & cons.

Nice, frank discussion. But also one based on a lot of presumption typically found with Boomer parents. Maggie gives no consideration to the possibility her children may not choose the path of love. In her mind, her kids will all eventually marry, mortgage, and become parents. It’s just a question of timing as to when the “right one” comes along. Sorry, Maggie, but you don’t know there is someone for Mike. That’s just a wish you are projecting onto him.
