sad thing is most succesful pro fighters have some form of cte... its unavoidable if you want to make it to the top... The happiest case is you either end up like terry norris, or retire due to injury ( or dont get cte at all because of godlike genetics ) or you dont fight at all

That gym is for pros bro, that is why they spar hard with no headgear. They want to become pros and champs, that is why they risk it, even knowing the CTE consequences. I think being an amateur in Holland is no sense, too much damage for nothing, even if you are allowed to use headgear 😅. Kickboxing in Holland is like Boxing in Mexico or Muay Thai in Thailand, is a way of living

You see Melvin coaching on the sidelines and forcing the guy to keep going and getting battered. Manhoef is one of my favorite MMA/K1 guys but he probably partook in alot of this type of sparring and he now has no chin. Shortening their careers for no money and dumb gym wars.

It will for sure create champions but also alot of brain trauma down the line. Is it worth it? Can you achieve a high standard of fight level without battering each other, other coaches believe you can. I think these aggressive type of training sessions should be kept to a minimum and leave the hard fight for the actual contest.

Yes and no. Mikes gym is one of the most extreme over here in the netherlands.. but there is no doubt youll need hard sparring. I very often hear foreign people say they prefer the thai way of training but they ignore the fact that they are so use to the beating since theyve been fighting week in week out. We western people have not so we need to get familiar with real punches. There is a reason why so many dutch fighters are at the top cause fight sports are not big here.

To me it just pre requests that you fight for real. How do you guys handle sparring and the competitive often narcissistic nature of men that fight?
