My old stomping grounds. In the 1970's my husband & I used to ride our dirt bikes in that area, mostly on deer trails & logging roads. Outstanding views. Ground clouds most mornings. If you ever get back into the area, look for London OR. Went there once, got lost trying to find our way back. Beautiful back country. Thanks for the memories. Also my family has a timber farm near Dexter OR, we regularly use arborists to evaluate the health of our trees. I made a table for my dad out of red oak and chinquapin, it was fun to work with. Still have some leftovers that I carve stuff out of.

😂😂😂 we had a workaway volunteer on our farm up above Willits that didn't know how to recognize poison oak. We didn't even know he was suffering until one morning at breakfast we were explaining to all the workers how to spot it in its dormant state and described what the rash looks like and he said "Is that what that is?!?!... thought I had an STD or something" 😮 Apparently he'd spent one of his days removing what he thought was dead brush around one of the cabins and didn't wear gloves... then he did what guys do, he went to the bathroom.

After that, I never got it more than a little 1" spot here or there. I guess you build immunity. 😂 My one friend gets it in the crotch every year because the same reason your guy got it. 😂☠️ Had one out of town worker get it on his face and in his eyes. I worked in the Southern Oregon Coastal Mtn Range for 32 years and have seen thousands of Chinkapin trees, but nothing like that one. When the nuts fall off the trees at a certain time of year, they are good to eat once you get them open. We measured a 9 foot DBH Tan oak while doing a survey once. Unfortunately, it was smack dab in the middle of a proposed log landing and was cut down a long time ago. I’ve seen a lot of big Tan Oaks over the years, but nothing close to that one tree.

My brother and I used to climb a tree on a friend's ranch to sit on a branch and watch the cows. One day, when I was 12 yrs old I went up there, sat on that branch, heard a cracking sound. The next thing I knew was my oldest sister walking me into the house, passed out again before going into the house. Woke up again on a bed cry, "Oh my back, my back." She thought that I had fallen asleep under the tree. We were the only ones home at the time. So when I woke up crying she called 911. The tree branch broke and I had fallen about 25 feet on to a uneven pile of 2x4's. Ended up breaking my back in 3 places and spending about 3 months in a cast from shoulders to hips. Never climbed a tree again mainly because I was not around a good climbing tree ever again.
