One of the greatest duels in sports history
Powell looks good 30 years later.
One of the most magical world records I've ever seen!
Yay, Mike! That was such an amazing moment to best Beamon’s mark, beat the great Carl Lewis, and destroy your own demons in 1 phenomenal jump. And to think that record still stands 30 years later. Amazing!
Makes me sad that this doesn't have that much attention but im so happy I got to watch this video and I hope more people notice this legend and amazing story!
ESPN needs to do a 30 For 30 documentary on this😊😊
Powell still looks like he could do a 8.95 long jump
He deserved to make a lot of money from this WR, this should be rewarded.
EPIC STORY I LOVED IT THANK U FOR SHARING! 😃
At the time I was angry that Lewis had lost, but later happy for Powell.

Think of it this way. It took an incredible freak WR to beat Lewis. Even though Powell won. What blew me away was Lewis jumping 4 massive jumps over 8.60. I dont think anyone will ever do that again.

Enjoyed this! Thanks for sharing it.
I loved this interview and so happy it came on my youtube recommendation
Saltiness is the best motivation
That’s why Carl Lewis is Legendary. Sometimes you just lose that's it.
Brilliant, I remember watching it on TV when I was young.
Beautiful! The cutter on this did his job!
Mike Powell put in the work! Well done sir! 👏
The greatest field event competition ever, pure sporting drama. This is what athletics fans love to see, not some final round jump off/throw off fiasco! World athletics please take note, that idea needs to be dropped.

Could you please explain?

@@khumokwezimashapa2245 World athletics are currently running trials in some of the field events whereby only the top 3 athletes get a 6th attempt. Then that 6th round attempt determines the athletes finishing position. An athlete could break the world record in round one, be way ahead, have a foul in the last round and therefore finish 3rd. Crazy idea!

Magic moments. Sport is unique in the way it creates drama. Nobody knew the outcome in advance!
Still looks fit as a fiddle 30 years on.
6:38 are we going to ignore the fact that we almost got to see a fist fight in the middle of this competition

That fist-pumping business and what went with it is poor sportsmanship as far as I'm concerned it didn't show a lot of class at the very least

@@jjayyoung7335 you're obviously not a high performing athlete. It's part of competition, whatever it takes to get you in thr zone
I look up to you man
Legends
I am here after the current champ Miltos Tentoglou claimed to be able to do 8.70, imagine the champ 30 years later doesn't even dream of approaching this record. How is that possible
I like Mike!
He was obsessed with Carl, but rivalries are like that.
Remarkable
Awesome
Goat right here🐐
it will still last a long time
Blow(jump) for blow(jump), toe to toe at its best. A ali v frazier type of duel.
Lets talk about how far Lewis’ 5th round jump was it he didn’t sit back on the landing.
The last bit made him seem small.
why does he look like Jayson Williams' dad?
You can tell by looking at Carl Lewis's face that he was roided out of his mind.
Powell got lucky but Lewis is GOAT the long jump
