I saw Zappa in 75 and it changed my life. Everything I had been listening too had lost something after that. Can't explain it. The Roxy album is pure magic. Side two maybe the best 17 minutes you'll ever hear. What that band could do...just wow.

I was going to comment something very similar. While Joe's Garage is what got me into Zappa, it's OSFA and this era of Zappa that is my favorite. The high level of musicianship, the compositions, the improvisation and it also still has that Zappa left field humor. My friends all know I'm a huge Zappa fan, and when they ask for recommendations on where to start, One Size Fits All is what I suggest.

Man, when I was about 9 years old you came to our local music store in Shreveport, LA for a clinic, my parents had dropped me off so I was there by myself. At one point you took questions from the audience and I raised my hand and (much to my embarrassment now) asked if you knew how to play "Wipeout" which was my favorite song at the time. You declined to play it so then I asked "..can I come play it?" You were very gracious, and super cool and you let me get up and play it. I never forgot that. Also I am right there with you on Zappa. 'Overnite Sensation' up to 'Joe's Garage' is my favorite period of FZ's

I have to tell a great little story relaying to lots of the music mentioned here. I was lucky enough to be on the PN@S 2014 cruise; a big deal for me, a little South African prog fan. It was an absolutely surreal week, not least of all hearing Transatlantic and Jon Anderson playing Revealing Science live together...but even better was the fact that I was wearing a Frank Zappa wig and moustache at the show, and Mike himself pointed me out from the stage; I was in fanboy heaven. I finally plucked up the courage to go up and meet him after we had disembarked the ship at the end, and he remembered my Frank Zappa outfit and even showed me his Zappa tattoo on his leg. He was so chilled and friendly and I, in true fan fashion, was a complete bumbling idiot. Mike, it's been great watching this series!

If your favorite Prog or Metal band was also a Jamband they would sound like Umphrey’s McGee. Picture Metallica playing a 20 minute version of Sad but True complete with a crazy light show and a bunch of metal head hippies dancing around. I can’t think of any other band like them. Umphrey's McGee is an American jam band originally from South Bend, Indiana. The band experiments with many musical styles, including prog, rock, metal, funk, jazz, blues, reggae, electronic, bluegrass, and folk. They have toured regularly and released several albums. Just when you think you have them figured out they completely switch things up. They can play anything. Sometimes they play multiple styles of music all within the same song. Back in 2016 they released an album of Mashups. This was a concept that was started many years prier. It was something they did live that was eventually turned into a studio album called Zonkey. The first one they ever worked through -- a blend of Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” and Pink Floyd’s “Another Brick in the Wall Pt. II”. Every summer the band plays 3 sold out shows at Red Rocks. During one of those shows they welcome Jason Bonham to join along for a full set of Led Zepp covers. Anchor Drops (2004) is the album that introduced most fans to the band.
