Great performance. Growing up idolizing this guy, its cool to see him have fun and struggle through this better than 99.9% of drummers out there 👏👏
Danny and Mike are two of the best ever. It’s crazy how complex they both can be.

Best video by drumeo so far. Mike Portnoy did a fantastic job covering a damn hard song.
The love he showed to the band was amazing. TooL is some on a different level.
Mikey!!!! The nicest guy and in my eyes the best rock, prog drummer of all TIME!!

What a fu$king killer song! Tool, a band formed in the early 90's still hugely relevant today! Great job Mike!
So fun to watch Mike play! Thanks for having him come out to drumeo. Drumeo never disappoints!
The thing about Carey's playing is how easy he makes it look when he plays it live. Portnoy plays it like how I see it in my head - complex and crazy.

Portnoy absolutely killed it... DC is so smooth though and makes it look effortless.
I don't think there's very many people who could sit down in an afternoon and just figure out a working, great-sounding drum track for music this challenging. But he did it! This guy inspired me for many years, and I even started to learn the drums by buying his instructional DVD many years ago! If you want to learn drums, go find it because it's a phenomenal foundation if in-person lessons aren't really an option. Today, my wife and I own a music school, and I owe it to Mike for helping me find my way as a musician/screwed up high school kid back in the day.

It was the best quote.
That gap in the drums is wonderfully placed. The guitar comes back in with the original riff, but much heavier. The drums being silent give the guitar its moment to burst through and do its thing. One of my favourite pauses in any song.
Portnoys humility is the best part of attempting this!
It just speaks volumes to how damn good Danny is that Mike REALLY struggled to get any kind of hold on this song in the 3ish hours he worked on it. He couldn't pick any time signatures until he saw the sheet music and even then it took him awhile to wrap his head around it. Learning the actual drum parts was just out of the question for a single video unless he took it away for a couple weeks to really dig into (which I would LOVE to see, to be honest).
