    When me and my wife got married 10 years ago, we love Mike Masse's version of this song so much we had Mike Masse with Jeff Hall playing Africa over the speaker system in the church and it played until my wife was about to start walking down the isle and In your eyes started playing again it was, Mike Masse and Jeff Hall's version. I love your voice, absolutely awesome. Been a fan for a long time, and still would rather hear your acoustic version of most classics then the actual classics, lol.

    Mike!!! Thank you sooooo much for this version of a great song. I have an oportunity to play this for some family and your version is perfect for a one solo guitar to pull this off. Other versions, though interesting, would sound weak without accompaniment (keyboards likely). I am excited about using your ideas.....

    Hey Mike! Thanks for the tutorial. I am a good guitarist and had learned this song (inspired by your version) from another tutorial. There is something you ‘get’ from the guy who played and sung the song that inspired you that you just can’t get from an information based tutorial elsewhere. A couple of things: your covers and your voice are awesome! And I can’t believe that this vid doesn’t have any comments and only sub 500 views! Rock on brother!

    Loving the ringiness from the capo on the 2nd. My problem is reaching those high notes and feel even by removing the capo, I would still struggle 😂 I remember standing right up front around a foot away from you during one of your London gig and lost my voice the next day after singing (correction - shouting) 😬 along to Africa.

    I must say being very close in age qn playin similar covers for many years You nailed this one If I didn’t smoke cigs I could hit it capo’d at the second but the first fret is a challenge even but to the point Weezers cover of a priceless tune such as this they shouldn’t never went there which is just my opinion cause I’ve loved this tune from the min I heard it at age 16 an I’m 44 now and I’ll say it out loud they don’t have a pimple on you covering it I’m that pizza place which I’ve been there haha and ya do what I do in the correct original key or not all right ! So hats off to ya brother and thanks for the tips with the capo cause the bars were killin my hands haha Keep a rockin from a far away over here in SE Wi!And of course I’ll do the same until my voice an hands won’t work anymore then I’ll still keep doin it reguardless! 🎙️🎸❤️💯

    @@darrylt1031 I listened to Toto's Africa today and while doing so, I thought: 'I kind of prefer Mile Massey's version. ' True story. I also heard from somewhere that one of Toto's bandmembers told Mike Massey that they thought his version was better than theirs.

    I noticed the when you're are playing that 3 finger G for the intro riff that you actually aren't strumming the high strings. Looks like you are just hanging around on the low E only. Am I crazy or is this what's actually happening.

    That always bothers me when guitarists misname chords when they’re using a capo. Adding a capo at 2 and making the shape for what would’ve been an open G doesn’t change the fact that the chord you’re now playing is an A. I realize he has to dumb it down in these tutorials for beginners but it’s still doing them a disservice for him to misidentify all of these chords a full step off of what they really are. Try jamming on this with a piano player and telling him the first chord’s a G.

    All guitarists should know that Em is really F#m when capped on the 2nd fret. He explains this at the beginning. This is simply an easier way to teach other guitarists. When teaching a keyboard player then use actual chord names!!!!

  • @dh81

    @dh81

    I agree, the chords should be called want they tonically are (not by what shape your left hand is making) when playing with other instrumentalist. But I’ve played with so many guitarists who just call the chord what ever shape they’re making with a capo and he does this throughout the video.
