One thing that definitely helped me with Mikes videos is listening out for the word "feel". Remembering that all these moves are "feels". Don't get to caught up on trying to see the move in your swing, if you are videoing yourself. You need to realize that this is all about "feel". If you "feel" it, it will be become "real". thanks mike you are the man!!!

I've been playing golf for almost 50 years. I'm a 2 handicap and have taken an occasional lesson from time to time. This video has done more to educate me about the golf swing and my flaws in particular, than anything I've read, watched or was shown. EXCELLENT!

I really like this lesson. It has really redirected how I swing the golf club back to when I started playing many years ago. Somewhere along the line I started playing squares and that led to back problems. So, finding this to get me back to an effortless, strong golf swing has really been helpful. I'm back to a 5 handicap and that aint to bad for a 74 year old vet who got shot in the legs when he was an infantryman. You are the best Mike.

The pivot with the body is certainly what is taught and what I've use for years. When seeing this video, of course I went out to the range and with another attempts at a new swings. I was shocked how far the ball went and once I had the turning the steering wheel thought things started happening and as you said tipping the club head. Really appreciate all you said and also what to look out for with the hips.I see this was 8 years ago but thanks so much.

MIke this is unbelievable. The concept of feeling like your are pulling away from the ball just changed everything for me. I never understood what clearing the hips was and now I think I do. After doing the pulling away from the ball my feeling is that my lower body is literally moving out of the way for my hands to drop in front of me. This instantly fixed my impact position where my hands are clearly in front of the ball. I'm going to buy your book for sure!

I just wanted to thank you Mike for this excellent instructional video!! At 63, I am returning to the game after a 15 year layoff and re-tooling my swing away from a rotate back - rotate through swing of the past. I have had lessons and my take away is modeled as you point out in this video. However, I have been struggling with consistency of strike. At times I absolutely stripe the ball but could not put my finger on exactly why my downswing fell apart more often than not. This video has me on the right track to building a more consistent downswing. Thank you, Thank you!!!

One of the best lessons I’ve ever seen. For years I was dragging the handle through impact to create lag and always had to flip last minute and had a two way miss every time I was on the course. Did Mike’s “hands in club head out” feel on downswing and had the purest strikes I’ve felt in a long time!

I'll admit the first time I watch this downswing move I thought you were crazy. Then I started working on the hockey drill and started to believe that the hands have to come in and the club head out for the club face to meet the ball square. I have taken so many lessons where they wanted me to pull the handle at the ball. I have never felt comfortable with my swing and I didn't improve at all. I was hitting balls with your method this week and the contact and distance is something I have never felt before. Thanks so much for posting this information on you tube. I feel like I actually have the knowledge to improve.

Same here. I veered away from this but decided to try again but this time, I made sure my hands-in were more exaggerated. Closer to my body and it worked very well. My driver was straight...not very long but I'm sure I can work on that. My irons were pure. The only thing I'm not sure is, must I have a stronger left hand grip (I'm right handed)?

  • @bobmcglone6676

@@dany1247Mike has a video on Utube about the grip. He basically said you should have a strong three or four knuckle grip with your left hand ( bend slightly over, hanging your arms naturally. Your club would fit in your left hand as it naturally hangs) It prevents it from rolling over with your palm up. Check it out.

Mike, I have played for more years than I care to admit and I have struggled with the "pull the handle through" approach for far too long. After watching this video I did nothing but practice this swing for two weeks in my back yard (no ball). I then went to the range for an hour and was immediately making the proper club to ball contact using only enough strength behind the swing to get the club around (letting the club do all the work). I finally played my first round after learning this swing and dropped 6 strokes from my game. Without a doubt I know my game will be in the mid 80's, breaking 90 for the first time, the very next time out. Thank you for doing so much to help make this not only a great game but also enjoyable (now that I can actually make birdies) !!!

He explains how you do the takeaway, transition and downswing of the club from 4:38 is pure gold. And the hands down club head out concept is here as well.👏 If you understand that, you will hit bombs, starting 45° flying high balls, easy 165yds with 9i. And that sound of pure solid contact💯👊 Obs: I pretty much watched all Malaska videos including on Be Better golf channel and Eric Cogorno. I suggest you all to watch all the videos as well. I finally get what Mike was describing. The most important thing for me is keeping the right hip back as long as possible or keeping it out of the way so my hands can come down in that empty space. The steering wheel analogy was a lil confusing at first but the idea is when u make a left turn with both hands on the steering wheel, the right hand come around over the top of the left hand. I think Mike was describing how the right hand come over the top of the left hand when u come down toward the ball. Thats what it feels like. All I can say is, keep going to the range and experiment with it. I promised u once u get it, U will thanks MIKE a million times. Once u have that swing down, the trick is to swing REAL easy and watch that ball flies straight in the air and land w/in 6 ft from the flag.

Mike, I have played golf for 40 years and tried to focus on improving over the last 10. My index is 17 and no amount of practice or swing modifications gave me the consistency to shoot lower scores. I broke 80 once but then it was back to 95 the next week. I've watch other instructors and followed their advice to see minimal improvement, but no lasting success. After seeing this video last week, the only thing left from my old swing is the grip. I am hitting every club at least 15 yards farther and more are finding the fairways and the greens. I can't believe the difference in the sound of my swing now that the club actually hits the ball first. I signed up yesterday for your online courses and you have already improved my putting and chip shots. I can't wait to watch the rest of the videos and watch my index go down. Thanks for sharing your knowledge with people like me struggling to find the key to better golf.

Absolutely perfect lesson for my swing. Club behind me, consequently very in to out with it's problems. Impossible to find the bottom of my swing. One simple move changed my ability to get long irons (hybrids) up in the air again. However I still have issues often keeping weight back and early extend too often. I just can't get the feel feeling the body moving away from the ball after early extending for the last several years. The thing I like is that I'm not thinking of six different things over the ball and everything just seems to start together. I'm not sure if I've ever hit so many solid shots and I have never been higher than a 7 until two years ago. Almost 60 years of single digit play and I will be back there again soon. Just got "I feel your pain" on kindle. Thanks so much.

Well, this is really interesting. It’s odd, but I haven’t used my hands and wrists in the swing for a very long time. I’ve been trying to work on the drive/hold idea and I’m very inconsistent with contact and direction. Went out yesterday and let myself be loose and tension-free and allow the weight of the club guide the body. What a difference. I could actually feel the club again. I had a follow through. I felt like a combination of Tony Finau and Fred Couples. It was easy and fluid and felt like a golf swing instead of forcing the club to do things. What a relief! This could be a game changer. Now to get that tennis racquet/ steering wheel happening. Great lessons and so clear. You should mentor Sean Foley 😉

Always come back and pick up some little hints, always get a little improvement, but eventual drift back to most of my old bad habits, until I come back and re educate myself with this guy 's instructions,he really is pretty good at this stuff as far as I'm concerned.I'm basically a average hacker who can play good golf at times, when I take on board what this guy teaches I tend to play better golf for a while, glad I come upon him.

Tried this on the range today, fantastic. Now have an understanding of using momentum. Ball starts off a little left at present but when I manage to get the ball to go more to the right it goes with a slight draw. Will keep working on it . Thanks Mike.

Watched this and kept it in my mind. Played for the first time in 2 years and shot a 94. 9 fairways and 8 GIR. The short game was brutal but I’m super happy with this.

I’m 83 years old and have tried to master what I call the Malaska move. When I do it correctly I shoot well into the 80’s. You cannot Imagine how difficult it is not to revert to old habits. When I really start to play awful golf I have to stop and go through a memory sequence. Push away from the ball, handle down club head up on the back swing, Handle down club head out on the down swing.

Good stuff Mike. From an old lagger of the club this is really hard but when I do it right I hit it higher, farther and pure!

Golf season is coming soon up north here. Watching more golf videos. If you watch the effortless swing of Si-Woo Kim, I think he does the same thing what Mike teaches. His swing is so smooth, beautiful and just long! I can't wait to hit the range and work on Mike's instructions. Thanks Mike!

Wow Mike!! So Glad I found your video on downswing. There are not many videos for Women swings that made sense. I just bought new irons and will add what I learned from you.
