Thank you Mike for asking the tough questions, the party line seems to be to hammer legal and responsible gun owners with yet more restrictions despite this gun being illegally held by a non license holder. The government deflecting the spotlight again.
@toranarama1

The gun register is a good idea though and surprised it hasn't always been active. Every firearm should be allocated to an individual and 100% traceable. That allows more guns to be in the hands of good people and a lot harder for crimes to get old legally purchased guns. Although it doesn't stop illegal smuggled weapons. Police should also have more power to search crims, ex crims and gang members for weapons . Also big penalties for illegally possessing a firearms.

If there is a core group of repeat violent offenders that keep reoffending, then the problem must be that they are not being put in prison, so that the public can be safe because they are then not on the streets committing crime. The problem does seem to be with the decisions around sentencing for people who are violent, have no remorse, and keep committing crimes. There is a level of violence that deserves a prison sentence not home detention. Home detention should only be for non-violent crimes, and for first time offenders.
@winstonsmithsoul
Жыл бұрын
When home detention was floated many at the time said that was dangerous. The government appeased the public by telling us no violent criminals would get home detention, they lied obviously. Or the justice system is breaking the law, because they didn’t change the law. That makes the judges guilty of a criminal offense, somebody needs to test the law and charge a judge for criminal negligence.

He was given massive discounts on his sentence because he was "detached from his culture" according to Judge Steve Bonnar, perhaps it's time to reevaluate the widespread practice of giving people discounts on their sentences for violent crime just because of their race?

Spot on. This lying waste of space ducked responsibility by suggesting they can’t sway judges opinion. But her government has done so by forcing judges to accept cultural reports and give heavy discounts. Her government HAS influenced the judiciary, she’s lying through her communist teeth.

@@toranarama1 You mean a gang shopping list!! That’s why the legal gun owners don’t want the list. Auckland central police station was broken into and the existing licence holders computer file was taken. Many kiwis have no idea that gang influence goes into the police operations. Time to wake up!
Someone should remind Ginny Andersen that misleading the public is a serious crime.
We have never been less safe. People need to know that there are consequences. I am sure that the families of the victims will be very happy to know that the prisons are not as full as they once were.
Corrections will be ass covering. They will have written a report for sentencing, recommending a community sentence. There is a push for a certain demographic to not be imprisoned.

@winstonsmithsoul
She is so far out of her depth its embarrassing to watch her. Trying to bully and out-talk Mike Hosking when he is on his game, as he was here, just doesn't cut it, Ginny.

Yep agree, keep those stats down for people in prison at all cost.. ..thing is the prison numbers might be down but the death and armed robberies have gone up out in the community...they cannot deny that FACT........if they want criminals to run havoc in our society, police will be forced to shoot back and get shot themselves and injure or kill innocent bystanders as we saw in Auckland. If that is the Police strategy rather than putting the criminals behind bars, then we should all be afraid were incidents will occur next. Additional police won't solve the problem that the Sentencing Act is too weak. Judges have to follow the Act. She is side stepping that because too many Labour supporters would end up in jail.
I accept that as a Minster of this govt., she is to be held accountable for policy that does influence judges. But the people who are escaping this exposure, are the likes of Cindi and the other senior labour MPs who crafted and pushed this policy when they first came into power. k Davis, willie Robertson, Lyttle and the likes get away with killing people. The judges need to be held accountable to the public and lose their high paid jobs. The third block of people who should be sacked are the senior staff of govt. departments, down to the third level from the top.
I didn't get any clue out of this interview. In summary, i dont feel safe anymore.
