This shitshow of half witted clowns would be funny if it weren’t totally condemning my children’s futures to debt induced poverty, officially condoned apartheid, an education harking back to the dark ages and probably… death at the hands of an ankle bracelet wearing ‘misunderstood young brown man’

    The gun register is a good idea though and surprised it hasn't always been active. Every firearm should be allocated to an individual and 100% traceable. That allows more guns to be in the hands of good people and a lot harder for crimes to get old legally purchased guns. Although it doesn't stop illegal smuggled weapons. Police should also have more power to search crims, ex crims and gang members for weapons . Also big penalties for illegally possessing a firearms.

    If there is a core group of repeat violent offenders that keep reoffending, then the problem must be that they are not being put in prison, so that the public can be safe because they are then not on the streets committing crime. The problem does seem to be with the decisions around sentencing for people who are violent, have no remorse, and keep committing crimes. There is a level of violence that deserves a prison sentence not home detention. Home detention should only be for non-violent crimes, and for first time offenders.

  • @winstonsmithsoul

    @winstonsmithsoul

    Жыл бұрын

    When home detention was floated many at the time said that was dangerous. The government appeased the public by telling us no violent criminals would get home detention, they lied obviously. Or the justice system is breaking the law, because they didn’t change the law. That makes the judges guilty of a criminal offense, somebody needs to test the law and charge a judge for criminal negligence.

    Yep agree, keep those stats down for people in prison at all cost.. ..thing is the prison numbers might be down but the death and armed robberies have gone up out in the community...they cannot deny that FACT........if they want criminals to run havoc in our society, police will be forced to shoot back and get shot themselves and injure or kill innocent bystanders as we saw in Auckland. If that is the Police strategy rather than putting the criminals behind bars, then we should all be afraid were incidents will occur next. This is a NO vote for Labour on Law order and crime without considering anything else Labour has failed on while in office.

    She keeps harping on about police quick action,it's Auckland cbd and the women's soccer world cup was about to start of course the response time should be good. But if it happened most other places in the country the response would have been terrible guaranteed.

    11 minutes! 11minutes! Hear that? If someone's shooting at you, or violently attacking you don't worry! the police will be there in *minutes* As the old saying goes, when seconds count, the police are minutes away.

    The Minister of Police can say anything she likes.....digging a hole for herself is all she is doing. Judge is responsible for his or her failure in recognizing the past behaviour of person in question. To make it worthwhile upholding law in NZ Police must be seen to be using those resources. The courts have to be SEEN to be doing their job in upholding the law with effective sentencing . MOP hears you Mike, she is busy avoiding answering you directly.

    She should immediately resign as well as the minister of justice. It is an absolute tragedy that Labour got in in the first place. Her eyes give it away. Power hungry and trained by the government of spin.

    Additional police won't solve the problem that the Sentencing Act is too weak. Judges have to follow the Act. She is side stepping that because too many Labour supporters would end up in jail.

    I accept that as a Minster of this govt., she is to be held accountable for policy that does influence judges. But the people who are escaping this exposure, are the likes of Cindi and the other senior labour MPs who crafted and pushed this policy when they first came into power. k Davis, willie Robertson, Lyttle and the likes get away with killing people. The judges need to be held accountable to the public and lose their high paid jobs. The third block of people who should be sacked are the senior staff of govt. departments, down to the third level from the top.

    Kudos for a great interview Mike. Love your work but you should have been grilling the judge or at least a spokesperson for the judiciary. HD was not an appropriate sentence for this character who should be locked up until he is old and grey.
